One of the duty officers, an Indian lady was behaving very rudely to the passengers. When I observed, further,i noticed that she did that only to the Indian passengers. I was lucky enough to be attended to by a friendly Singaporean. The scene disturbed me and I had some thoughts hovering around it. In a family also, the majority of us take our family members for granted and keep raising our voices at them. But when we interact with outsiders we want to project ourselves as kind and soft spoken. Especially in the present day scenario, when both the parents are working, we hardly get any time to be together as a family. Our work pressure pushes us to be unkind and rude to our family members. SULAKSHYA 2K The third edition of Sulakshya was held in the PSBB Millennium School, OMR on Friday 7th July, This interschool cultural fest with the theme Redefining the Classics' strove to bring out the hidden talent of the students of classes 6, 7 and 8 in various co-curricular fields. With 740 students across 20 schools participating, Sulakshya 2017 was organised on a grand scale. The chief guests, Dr Sudha Raja, Mr Ajay Kapoor and RJ Shyam Renganathan complimented the students performances and encouraged them to do their best. The overall trophy was bagged by PSBB Siruseri. In Memoriam: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Even as teachers, many a time we are kind to our students and without losing our temper we can handle tough situations. But we tend to lose our calmness with our better halves and children. Why is it so? Being an Indian lady, is it not the duty of that officer to be kind and helpful to passengers especially to her own nationals? Being a member of the family, is it not the duty to be kind and affectionate to our own people? Peace begins with tolerance and respect for everyone! FROM THE EDITORS Dear Reader, Before you is the 2 nd official issue of the Millennium Chronicles. This newsletter is the one stop corner for anything happening at our school: It s where you can catch a glimpse of what truly makes our school different from the rest. The highlight of this month s issue is Sulakshya, the interschool cultural fiesta organised by our school.we are grateful to all the students and teachers who have put their heart and soul into making the event a roaring success. We will also be outlining the diverse activities the students of class 6 to 10 did in the loving memory of India s missile man - Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on 27 th July. What s more, we ensure that no talent is confined to the four walls of the classroom. Teachers and students have contributed a huge number of articles, poems and drawings, adding plenty of colour and animation to this issue. If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself. said Henry Ford. We are thankful for the appreciation and the praise we got from Dr Mrs YG Parthasarathy and Mr YGR for last month s issue and we hope every issue we release measures up to our previous one. - Ananya E, Student Editor 1

Creative Workshop Conducted On 17th July Moneeshau M, Jt Cultural Secretary With gay abandon... Sitting in my balcony overlooking the Thalambur lake, my heart was heavy, my mind was churning. The year's at the spring, and day's at the morn; Morning's at seven, the hill-side's dew-pearled; The lark's on the wing, the snail's on the thorn; The members of the Creative Writing Club had a workshop on the 29th of July in the school premises conducted by their very own English teacher, Mrs. K Geethanjali. Many aspects were covered such as fitting all the fresh and innovative ideas in and bringing emotion into a piece of writing, originality and various writing styles, key elements of a story etc. Tips like "Loosen up to tighten up your craft", " Write drunk, edit sober" were briefed upon and one of the main takeaways of the session was "Don't write to impress, but to express." A few interesting activities were also conducted and lastly, students wrote their own short stories individually. None of the queries of the students were left unaddressed throughout the lively and informative session. At the end of the day, all the children were instilled with the confidence that everyone in this world has creativity hidden within and they have the potential to create wonders. God's in his Heaven - All's right with the world! said the poem open before me, but I could find nothing in life to make me share the poet s optimism. The sudden swooping of a swallow caught my eye. A light drizzle had started after days of dust and heat and that was enough for the little fellow to take wing and soar. Its gay abandon brought to my mind my childhood when I had experienced such a feeling, soaring on a garden swing. I mused on why this feeling of playfulness which is the essence of all life seems to be missing from our lives as we pursue careers, rush to meet deadlines and try to climb up the ladder of success. In the process don t we lose this sense of wonder and get caught in our troublesome thoughts and mundane worries? The drizzle intensified into heavy rain and the heavy winds found me scuttling inside to watch the storm rage. Nature was having a meltdown and I felt helpless before its emotions. The storm intensified, but after venting its fury, it spent itself out and then a weak sun peeped out. A sudden chirp outside my window sill made me look up. There, huddled in the balcony, was a little black ball of feathers. My little swallow had made it through the storm. A feeling of All is well. Gods in heaven, all s right with the world, came over me. Drinking in the smell of green mangoes or following the path of a sparrow (they were a common sight then!) to their nests would make my cup of happiness overflow... I felt that same bliss at the thought of the little piece of life huddled safe and sound in the sanctuary of my balcony. I smiled now as a calf gambolled on the field nearby. He was having a lark, butting all his other friends, making them frisk away in mock fear. They had no agenda. The storm that had raged just minutes ago meant nothing to them. Life was just one big game to be played and savoured. Quiz Club Workshop Conducted On 29th July Anbuvanan A - Quiz Club Jt Secretary The Quiz Club of the school conducted a workshop for some students of classes 6 to 10 on Saturday the 29th of July in the school premises. The workshop aimed at exposing students to the basics of quizzing and preparing them for competitive quizzes in the near future.the workshop, held between 9 am and 11 am, started off with a beginner s level quiz covering a wide variety of topics including current affairs, sports, culture, history, entertainment etc. Then, senior members of the quiz club shared their past experiences in competitive quizzes for the benefit of new members. Tips regarding preparation for quizzes and enhancing general knowledge were given as well. Finally, students were split into teams for purposes of organizing quizzes in future workshops. At 11 am the workshop concluded with students being given a few questions as homework. Maybe this faith in existence and wonder at the way life turns out is the magic dust that can bring back the lustre to life. Maybe that s why the swallow can swoop so low with gay abandon and peep out once the storm abates to carry on with its play. It has faith that the next minute the wind or existence will carry it right up! Geethanjali K 2

ACTIVITIES A Seminar On International Tuition -Charan S. and Meghana M.K. On the 31st of July, a seminar on doing an undergraduate degree in the USA was conducted by Archana Ramakrishnan, a former student of our school, who got into the University of Kansas with a 100% scholarship. She enlightened the participants on the methods of applying to colleges and the selection process and the topics covered during the session ranged from fees and scholarships to tips on what to study. The students were given instruction on how to write the SATs, prepare essays as per requirement and were given specific websites which would be helpful in applying to various colleges. The session proved to be a very informative and an inspiring one too. Expert Lecture by Dr. Suresh - Pranesh, XII A Chennai 31st July 2017: Dr Suresh, Intervention Cardiologist, from Cincinnati, US, paid a visit to our school to address the students of classes 11 and 12. We gained insight on the role of a cardiologist and the nature of his work. He explained and demonstrated how to perform a CPR and also explained the various reasons for cardiac problems, how they occur and the methods to prevent them. He emphasized on following a good life style which includes maintaining a proper diet and exercising regularly. Dr. Suresh is not only a cardiologist but also a member of the American Heart Association and conducts clinical trials to test the effectiveness of medicines. He also shared his knowledge on the method by which these medicines are approved for medical purposes. It was amazing to know how swiftly the emergency services in hospitals work. He later conducted an interactive session in which everyone participated with great enthusiasm and inspired me to be- Health Set Go Activity -Sreevarshini V.P. When diet is wrong, medicine of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need. Good health requires healthy food and that is the reason for the second Health Set Go topic being chosen as A balanced diet. A diet which contains exactly the right type and amounts of foods that supply energy and nutrition for the maintenance of our body is termed a balanced diet. It usually comprises of macro-nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats and micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals. But in this world of changing tastes and trends, we often forget to make the right choices when it comes to food as most of us live to eat and not eat to live! So this project served as an eye- opener to all the students as they learnt to make minor changes in their lifestyles that would lead to major differences in their lives. As part of this activity, students were educated on a healthy diet through speeches and presentations made by the school representatives of Health Set Go. In addition to this, students made various charts, models and gave informative talks on the topic that provided them with ideas to incorporate healthy foods into their routines. The Health Set Go cards were also given to the students in which they filled up the contents of their meals for over a week to assess their diets. At the end of the week, one student from each section who had had the healthiest meals was awarded the Health Set Go badge. 3

Dear readers, We are pleased to incorporate the vivid experiences of the Sulakshya snippets editorial board. Sulakshya snippets aimed at capturing every single moment of the cultural extravaganza. Through a compilation of the events that took place on that day, we had tried our best to showcase the achievements and accomplishments of the participating schools. As the members of the editorial board we had an amazing time putting this exhilarating volume together. The herculean task of editing and releasing our newsletter would not have been possible without the help of our dear teachers of the English dept. and the school management. and hence we would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the making of our successful snippets. The overall trophy was bagged by PSBB Siruseri. 4

I looked out of my window and saw the people of Main street that I knew so well; Mrs. Lindsay watering her rosebuds, then t h e r e w a s D r Clark playing tennis with his son, Peter, who had come home for the weekend; my own parents were out on a shopping marathon, which I did not want to take part in, and finally I saw Mrs. Lawrence, as she came out of her house, for a morning walk. An unexpected cold breeze blew across my face. It was quite unexpected as it was already a good twenty days into spring. That s when the horrible truth hit me; Mrs. Lawrence was not out on a morning walk. She was walking into danger. What else would you expect a person to do when affected by Alzheimer s? I rushed down as fast as my legs could take me. I grabbed both my house and my cycle keys and rushed out. I kicked myself for taking almost five minutes to lock the front door. Soon I was cycling as fast as lightning. I reached the traffic signal in the nick of time. I was flustered and running short of breath. Even though the traffic signal still displayed the red stop sign, Mrs. Lawrence had already started crossing it and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a car speeding towards her. The driver had not taken any notice of Mrs. Lawrence. Then I let my instincts take control of me. Before I knew it, I had caught up to Mrs. Lawrence and I pushed her from the path of the speeding car. I had a moment to see Mrs. Lawrence s startled face, and then I realized that I was now in the path of the car! I couldn t save myself of course, so down to the ground I fell. As I lay there half aware of the people crowding around me, I let my mind play around. I recollected memories from my past; my first birthday party at the age of seven with my best friend, the day my brother came down with measles and many such incidents. At last the world around me became black. Happiness is a gift It will give you a spirit lift Laughter is the best medicine Don t worry, it s no sin! Smiling makes you stress free Don t worry, it has no fee Happiness lies deep within you; When laughing or smiling, it comes out of the blue. When it comes out, you are the luckiest person! Don t worry, you won t be caught for treason. I woke up to see white; the bed sheets, curtains, walls and everything I could view from the bed that I was lying in was white. I figured out that I would have made it to heaven. Then a fair lady with a nametag walked into the room. She had a calm yet radiant smile. I squinted my eyes trying to read her nametag... Angel I murmured and smiled to myself. This was the point when I noticed something odd on her hat; it stood out against all that white. It was something red... a red cross. The world around me came back to focus, I could now hear the traffic outside my window, I felt a throbbing pain in my left foot but I knew I would be alright, after all I was in a hospital. Just then I saw that the nurse, Angel, was trying to tell me something. Seeing my confused face she pointed to the door. What happened after that was again a blur; my parents came in and sat by me for a long time. It was quite obvious that my mother had been crying. They were followed by Mr. Lawrence who thanked me and, after further enquiry, reported that Mrs. Lawrence was alright. After a few more days in the hospital I was free to go. On reaching Main Street, I was surrounded by a huge crowd. The community president was there and presented me with an award. Unable to hold them back, I burst into tears, tears that were happy. -Nirupama Vinay, 6B Shaurya Bhadani, 10-A 5

ARTIFICIAL - KEERTHANA VINAY, 10A A time when people used to mean what they said and say what the meant. A time when there were no questions to blot out your originality or individuality. Can you imagine that? Probably not, considering that the world we live in now is filled with liars and imposters, tricks and made- up identities, all for the sake of social acceptance. It sounds cynical but when you ve been exposed to the truth behind the twisted ways of the world you will realize how pretentious some smiling faces really are, understand how fake some words really sound and, most importantly, learn to never trust anyone but yourself. Perhaps, that is what gets to me the most - the artificial face that people put on. Nowadays, genuine words have become rare to find and actions which have no ulterior motives or unasked-for-returnfavours are seldom carried out. With advanced technology right at our fingertips, communicating and obtaining information becomes easier. With Whatsapp, Instagram and Google- Plus having become the go-to mediums for social communication, the ability to pose as someone who seems to be real becomes that much easier. Why is it that truth and only the truth is just in our words and not in our actions? The ideals of integrity and the importance of the truth are lost in this generation. We have become so lost as someone that everybody else likes, that we ultimately lose ourselves. We must reawaken the qualities that we used to live by so as to get rid of dishonesty that has somehow been cultivated into today s world. Mean what you say -Lakshmi Yazhini, 9D In the little town of Whittle, peace was to be found everywhere, except the house of The Roberts, who were known for constantly bickering with each other. Whittle was known for its imperishable source of water, for there was a river which ran nearby. Not just any ordinary river; a perennial river that was believed to bring sheer luck and prosperity to all those who worshipped it. The Roberts weren t one of the town people. It so happened that Mr. Roberts quarreled with his wife because he couldn t bear her wit. One day he decided to go near the river bank. Seeing the river bank, he said, Humph! Why don t these people build em bridges? Don t give a damn about crossing them, they don t. So Roberts himself sought to build a bridge across the river. He cut down the nearby trees with the tools he had brought from home. He worked tirelessly and finished it with a lot of satisfaction. I ll destroy this myself when I return. If the others want a bridge, they can build one themselves, he grumbled. He shook his hair and started to storm across the bridge when suddenly the bridge shook and trembled, swaying Roberts from side to side. Caught in the moment, he forgot how to be frustrated and angry, and he found himself getting scared. He sat down on his knees and clasped his ears with his hands until the turbulence finally stopped. A beautiful woman with lilies on her head appeared. She was dressed in a gown and looked very petite. Roberts clutched his heaving breast and asked, Who re you? The lady replied in an echoing voice, Oh, one on his knees does quiver; It is I, the maiden of the river. (To be continued ) 6

Remembering the missile man Dream is not the thing you see in sleep but is that thing that doesn't let you sleep - Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Our most adored president of India was born into a humble Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram on 15th October 1931.He grew up in poverty and distributed newspapers in a very young age to support his family, he also use to reminisce the moments of love spent with his family quite often. He then went on to study physics and aeronautical engineering and became one of the most known scientists in India. He was the unanimously elected as the 11 th President of India. The man is also known for his humility which was best portrayed in an incident that took place in IIT (BHU) where he refused to sit in a specially designed chair for him as it was larger than the rest of the seats. We sadly lost him on July 27th July ANANYA EDUPUGANTI, 11 A Value of the month : Honesty Honesty is a virtue of the bygone era, the highest form of affection and the most beautiful and expensive commitment in life. We have had great philosophers and world leaders tell us what honesty is and what it means to us and the world. Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom - Thomas Jefferson, Truth never damages a cause that is just - Mahatma Gandhi. These are echoes of the world before our time but that doesn t mean what they said wasn t the truth. Now as students and the people of the NEW MEDIA AGE the time has come for us to work on their definition of honesty and upgrade it to suit us better. Being honest is a mighty task. It has a power that only a few people can handle. In certain inevitable situations of our life hiding the truth is lot easier than facing the hard truth. But why keep pushing it away if it is only going to cause you your ultimate downfall? Hurting you and the people you hold close to your heart. Anyone who says they never lie is lying. No one wants to lie. For everyone knows that if you tell the truth, it becomes a part of your past and if you lie, it becomes a part of your future. But remember, Too much of anything is good for nothing. -Nikitha.R, 11 A Generation Gap He y! I m here to tell you about where I went for m y s ummer holida ys.
