Welcome Hello and welcome! I m Cynthia Garcia, Founder and Director of the Institute of Transformational Nutrition the Ivy League Institute of nutrition coaching certification programs. But let s pause for just a moment and start at the beginning. Who am I, what is ITN, and why was it created in the first place? Meet Our Founder You see, a few years ago, I found myself on the floor of my tiny apartment in Los Angeles choosing to end my own life. For months I felt horrible. I had chronic fatigue, I was overweight, I had horrible cystic acne breakouts on my face and back, I was fuzzy-headed all day long and even suffered from memory loss. I couldn t work because I was so sick and my bank account was resting dangerously on just a few hundred dollars. The morning I awoke to find lumps in both of my breasts was my breaking point. I just decided that I was done. I could not go on. Like so many other people, I had tried everything. I worked with doctors, trainers, and nutritionists. I had massage therapy, reiki therapy, energy-balancing, and was even hypnotized. I worked with crystals, herbal formulas, and did colon cleanses. 2 I figured I had given it my best shot and it was honestly tired. It was time for me to stop trying. That night, sitting in a dark corner with the lights of Hollywood streaming through my one apartment window that I had, I was utterly hopeless. I felt worthless and defeated. And, as I started to sit there and come to terms with the fact that this was the end, I started to get angry. I was angry at myself for getting into this place. I was angry at the people I went to for help that didn t help me. And I was angry at God. And I started to ask, Why me? You see, dealing with incredible challenges was nothing new for me. This wasn t the only thing I had ever come up against. I grew up in extreme poverty. We had no running water or indoor plumbing, one old wood stove heated our home, and I remember nights and days that I went hungry. My home was filled with drug abuse and domestic abuse, and I was sexually abused at a young age. That night in the dark, I felt like I had been fighting my entire life and I was just so tired of fighting. And as I kept saying why me, with tears streaming down my face, it was almost as if I had this understanding or this voice from within. I started to understand the answer to that question, why me? I realized that everything I had experienced up until that very moment hadn t happened TO me. It had happened FOR me. I realized in an instant that I was meant to go through these experiences. I was meant to have that awakening in that very moment. It was all unfolding just as it was supposed to. For months, I hadn t been able to have a clear thought. But that night, things were crystal clear. I knew that I could overcome these health conditions. I knew I was meant to. Then, I started thinking about all the other people out there who were struggling or had struggled in the past just like me. Who had experienced tragedy and heartbreak, just like me. Who didn t feel seen or heard or like they mattered, just like me. And I knew that THEY were meant for greatness. In fact, YOU are meant for greatness. 3 For the first time in my entire adult life, I felt hope. It felt really good. I made a pact with the Universe. I agreed that I would do everything possible to heal my body and my heart if it would be there to lead, guide, and support me. I proceeded with the confidence that The Universe had agreed. We were in this together. I picked myself up, dried my tears, and headed over to my computer. Thank goodness for Google. Because at that point, I didn t know a protein from a carb. I found a nutrition certification program and ed them letting them know I wanted to enroll right away. The next morning, I received an back saying they were closing enrollments that very day and that I had ed just in time. I used three credit cards to sign up but I knew I was investing in me the only thing left to invest in. During my studies, I started researching my symptoms and dug into every facet of nutrition. I attended additional schools and training programs where I learned about holistic health, mind shifts, and psychological factors. I tested spiritual practices and looked at how they really brought everything else together in a big way. And I started implementing what I was learning. I saw slow results at first but I kept at it. I learned about meditation and herbs. I became aware of food intolerances and weight loss resistance. I learned how to detox and cleanse my body the right way. I also realized that it wasn t about the food. It had never been about the food. In fact, it will never be about the food. It was about that hunger that I couldn t satisfy, no matter how much food I ate. I had to go beyond food and discover what I was really hungry for. I dug deep. I uncovered old hurt and beliefs that had kept me stuck and those feelings like I wasn t good enough. And then the magic started to happen. The weight fell off as if it had never been there. My skin cleared up, I had lots of energy, and I could remember everything. The lumps in my breasts turned out to be fibrous (which years later brought me to my knees in gratitude when my mom actually was diagnosed with breast cancer). 4 My body and heart were healing and it was now time for me to share what I had learned. I started working with people who were going through similar struggles. I combined science, psychology, and spiritual practices since I now knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that you need them all if you want to create permanent change. And I started to see these people completely transform. The Story of ITN I called this method that I had created Transformational Nutrition. After 15 years of serving others, writing bestselling books, using it with celebrities, and being featured in media all over the globe, I decided to take it a step further. I wanted people to learn this method so that they could use it to help others who were suffering. I also saw that there was a huge gap in the education industry for people who wanted a solid, in-depth education in nutrition and holistic health. So I set out to bridge that gap by creating the world s most complete, in-depth, and personalized holistic nutrition training program available. But I didn t stop there. Recognizing the need for a step-by-step system to get coaches clients and clients results, and seeing the lack of confidence coaches had from a lack of knowledge, I went on to develop the first and ONLY personalized nutrition coaching system (PNCS), The Transformational Nutrition Model. It s also the very first system to fully incorporate all of the necessary modalities for true health and transformation the science of nutrition, psychology, and spirituality.
