FROM THE PASTOR S DESK A poem by Samuel Coleridge has a line that reads: May never was the month of love, for May is full of flowers. But rather April, wet by kind, for love is full of showers. Poetry interpretation is always interesting, especially when a composer puts the words of the poem to music. Men in Blaque are currently recording a song commissioned for them using these words of Coleridge. Now I do not pretend to be a great interpreter of poetry, nor do I know the intent of the composer. But that line has stood out for me. No greater love was given to us in April than the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. As we continue to bask in the glow of the Easter message, we realize that our hearts are filled with the love of God. That love certainly came down to us through the showers of Christ s passion, through His painful death on the cross for us. Many of us know that often true love does indeed come through the showers, the difficulties of relationships. But what might be meant by the phrase, May never was the month of love, for May is full of flowers? The old line of April showers bring May flowers comes immediately to mind. Could it be that the love of God, planted in our hearts through the Easter message, now grows and blooms into a field of brilliant colored flowers? Is not this what happens when the love of God takes root in our heart; as it begins to produce the flowers, the fruits of faith? Poetry interpretation is always risky business, but I truly believe that the Easter message is not just meant for one Sunday a year. Easter carries us through the entire year. The flowers of God s love remind us that we are to grow in our faith and boldly share that faith with others. That s the purpose of our church and its ministry. To spread the glorious news of Christ s resurrection for us so that the world might know of God s great love. God plants the flowers; He waters them; and they blossom in the lives of His people. As we move into May, let s not let our faith be simply an Easter Sunday faith. Let us continue to let our lives be watered with God s love and may our lives be those flowers that bring God s love to others in our lives. Find a way to be involved in the ministry of Faith. Look for ways to let your life blossom for God. We need you to be a part of our ministry and to help us show God s love to a world that so desperately needs the colorful flowers that remind us of the joy of God s blessings. Pastor Paul

Faith s Ti de Page 3 Faith Leadership THANK YOU VELDA! After countless years of faithful service, Velda Ryan is relinquishing her role as chair person of our Altar Guild. Working behind the scenes, often with very little recognition, Velda has been an important part of the ministry at Faith. She has led the faithful group of women and men who care for our altar, for our sanctuary and for all the things we take for granted that are in place when we come to worship. Her care of God s house has been a labor of love. We can never thank her enough for all she has done. Thank you Velda. So we are looking for someone to come forward to assume some of her duties and to assist us in this important ministry. If you think God might be moving you to consider this, please speak to Pastor Paul. May God continue to provide us with faithful volunteers that care for His sanctuary and for our church s worship.
