The windows in the east will be repaired after the weddings this summer and fall. Please consider giving to this project. 2 PASTOR JOHN S PONDERINGS MAY 2017 It was a wonderful Lenten season at Winner United Methodist Church! Ash Wednesday began Lent with a somber and serious mood that focused us in on the reflective nature of the season. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday brought us to the realities of the cross and tomb. And on Easter Sunday we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ as He defeated the power of sin and death and gave us the gift of salvation and the promise of eternal life through Him. May 7 th will bring us Graduation Sunday and Mother s Day/Teacher Recognition Sunday on the 14 th. Starting the 21 st we will welcome back the summer schedule with one worship service at 9:00 AM. During the summer we will start with the Praise Team leading worship for four weeks (plus a VBS Sunday in there) and again for the last three weeks. In between, we will shift to traditional worship for the middle seven weeks. Our last summer worship, on September 3 rd, will feature a blend of contemporary and traditional worship. The bathroom projects are drawing near to a close just as the stained glass window project gets started. Most of us have dearly missed having a bathroom on the main floor and will joyously celebrate the completion of this project. All but the three large stained glass windows at the front of the church have been removed and are off in Iowa to be built into modern new frames with all sorts of neat technology. To us sitting in the pews each Sunday, it will seem like nothing is happening with the windows as they will be off site. Then one day this fall the windows will be back with new frames! And just as a reminder, the church would welcome any contributions to help with these projects. Both projects are estimated at about $60,000 each, so all donations would be greatly appreciated!! May the Lord continue to bless and keep you!! Blessings on the continuing season of Easter!! - Pastor John Faith Focus: For the month of May, please take time to read and ponder and pray through these words from Romans 12, verse 8: If we can encourage others, we should encourage them. If we can give, we should be generous. If we are leaders, we should do our best. If we are good to others, we should do it cheerfully. Are you more of an encourager, a giver, or a leader? How can you be all of these things to some degree? In doing good, why is a cheerful attitude what Paul most emphasizes? How could you be more cheerful in the ways you do good?

3 Leadership Council April 23, 2017 Members present: Pastor John, Alona Burtz, Lillie Palmer, Todd Bicek, Malon Burtz, Yvon Burtz, Dianne Fisher, Rick Faubion, Angie Bicek, Donna Duffy, Liz Farley, Garry Brown, Brian London, Wade Burtz, Dan Patmore, Clint Vanneman, Justin Peterson, Carol Brown, and Eva Watzel. Pastor John gave the opening prayer. A motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting was made by Wade and second by Liz. Motion carried. A motion to approve the treasurer s report was made by Brian and second by Eva. Yvon made a motion to take the money for the visitor s check on the Faith & Fellowship roll from the general budget. Rick second and motion carried. A motion to approve Pastor s ARP was made by Wade and second by Justin. Motion carried. MINISTRIES: PASTOR: See new business HS YOUTH - TODD: The MYF provided the Good Friday services. Thank you to Tasha for her work with the youth. They would like to plan a tubing trip for this summer. CHRS. ED GAIL: She is working with Vanessa on VBS. CHRS. ED -ANGIE: They are working on VBS May 29 June 2. OUTREACH: They put a card with a life saver and church info in several business places. On Palm Sunday, they handed out pocket crosses and the life saver cards. They are working on a community church service on Aug. 13 in the park. The DS is sending a trailer with activities for children. HOSPITALITY: They are working on a welcome visitor packet. SPR: They accepted the resignation of Gail Smith as Christian Education Director at the end of VBS. They discussed the snow policy and will bring back a report next month. WORSHIP: They are working on the summer worship schedule. TRUSTEES: Clint is working on the drop ceiling for the bathrooms. The flooring will start on Wednesday. The stained-glass windows will be removed starting on Monday. FINANCE: They met with the Dan to discuss the windows and bathroom projects. They will be paid for from undesignated memorials and cap ital outlay funds if there are not enough contributions for them. CARES: They helped serve April BLAST. They will not meet again until they work on the Ingathering bags. SMALL GROUP: They met and discussed some upcoming Bible studies. Pastor John would like to have a study after Easter, Financial Peace in the fall and an advent study. Young moms group continues to meet and will soon be done for the summer. Young couple's club continues to meet and plan to continue meeting through the summer. FUNERAL: They served 4 funerals: Ray Hazuka, Pat Brown, Betty Toman, and Max Bainter. AV: They met and everything is working well. OLD BUSINESS: Liz would like Worship Ministry to help serve at May BLAST. NEW BUSINESS: - Wade made a motion to give $50 to the Builder s Club for the Murdo parsonage. Rick second and motion carried. - Liz, Gail and Pastor John have looked at several picture directories. Liz made a motion to proceed with the directory. Carol second it and motion carried. - Pastor will discuss the visioning next month. - Wade a motion to give $150 for the scholarship. Todd second it and the motion carried. - Lillie will check on the church usage policy for non-profit groups. ADJOURN: Wade made a motion to adjourn and Dan second it. Motion carried. 4 Winner MYF WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS: In April, the highlight had to be the high school MYF s leadership of the Good Friday Service. The human video was awesome and the whole service was very moving!! Upcoming Dates to Remember: May 6 Senior Dinner (6:00 pm) May 7 Senior Sunday May 7 Chili Contest and BINGO with dessert auction (6 pm) May 10 LAST night for MYF Thank you to the many families that provided a meal before MYF throughout the year. Each week we served about 50 youth and youth workers who, of course, stayed for MYF!! And a GREAT BIG thank you to Tasha Vanneman and Korie Pravacek for helping with HS MYF and to Angie Bicek, Tia DeSersa, and Nancy Lewis for helping with MS MYF. You re the BEST!! SUMMER PLANS FOR MYF Movie Night!!! - Once a month in the summer we will gather to have a movie night!! We will watch a faith-based movie and will wrap up each night with s mores around the fire. This is open to MS and HS MYF and will be held on the SECOND Sunday each month (June 11, July 9, and August 13)starting at 7:30 pm at the parsonage. PLAY DAYS!!! Come one, come all!! MS and HS MYF are invited to come out for a day of fun and fellowship once a month. Here is our schedule and events (so far): - June TBA - Roller skating at SkateTown - July TBA - Tubing the Niobrara River - August 20 - Wild Water West H.S.
