Brothers and sisters: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 5:16

Do You Know Your Faith? Before the Kiss of Peace, we have The Lord s Prayer which is used most appropriately to begin the communion rite. It reminds us that God is our Father and we are God s children who depend on him for everything. As far back as ad 150 Saint Justin, wrote about a holy kiss given after finishing the prayers of the faithful. Reaching out to one another is not easy: we are forced to admit our interdependence. Jesus s first words after resurrection were, Peace be with you. We exchange the same words at the sign of peace as our final preparation for communion. The sign of peace we do at Mass came from Jesus instructions in the Sermon on the Mount: remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go: first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift (Matthew 5:2324). So, the time for the sign of peace is not a time to be standoffish; it is not a time to isolate oneself. Instead, it is a time to put aside artificial boundaries and paralyzing fears so that we can share a unity with one another and with God. May this prayerful gesture break every form of division, prejudice, and discrimination in our parish. May the kiss of peace that we share make us truly One Family in Christ, amen! Fr. Emmanuel If you would like a ride to Mass, Northwestern CT Transit offers a DialARide service. Please call 8604892535 for more info. H H? Leading Teens Closer to Christ through the Eucharist We give all glory, honor and thanksgiving to God for the abundant blessings bestowed upon us on Sunday, October 21st as 125 teens gathered at our 4th Annual John Paul II Youth Conference. The day began with the Celebration of the Eucharist as Fr. Jeff Gubiotti joyfully preached to the young people, of our parish, of the freedom found by living a life in Christ and not bound by the slavery of sin. He told the teens that they are not just the future of the Church They are the present Church! They need to be missionary disciples by bringing the message of the truth of the Gospel to those who do not know Jesus in their schools and on their ball fields... Our keynote speaker, LifeTeen s David Calavitta, spoke to the teens of the relentless love of God the Father which led to the culmination of the day in a powerful period of Adoration, a personal encounter with the Eucharistic Jesus, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. 9 S J P G P View our bulletin online: JohnPaulGreatParish.com
