Pennsylvania Grand Jury report, Cardinal McCarrick, Cardinal Wuerl, Pope Francis: who knew what and when? sex abuse and the Church. And on it goes. We have heard so much in recent days and in the last few years. If others are talking about these things, then so should we. This Wednesday, September 26, at 7:30pm in the Lower Parish Hall, I invite you to an Open Forum on the above-mentioned topics. This is not meant to be a time for debate or accusation. But it will be an opportunity for people to speak what is on their minds, to ask questions, and to listen to what others have to say. We may not be able to solve all the problems, but we can learn and reason together. I hope to see you this Wednesday evening. Next weekend September 30 is a Fifth Sunday of the month. For many years, on a Fifth Sunday, it has been our parish practice to sponsor a second collection for the St Vincent de Paul Society of St Charles Borromeo Parish. Our faithful Vincentians carry out the Gospel mandate to feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty. And, as we all know, the one in need may be Christ indeed. If you can, please help our SVdeP in next weekend s second collection. Looking way ahead: active and retired first responders (firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, sheriff s personnel. Metro Park police) are invited to the annual Diocesan Blue Mass with Bishop Nelson Perez on Tuesday, October 23, 7:00pm at Our Lady of Angels Church, 3644 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland (just north of Kamm s Corners). You are requested, if possible, to wear your Class A uniform. Our Italian Dinner benefitting a cure for Frontotemporal Dementia will be held next Saturday, September 29, at 5:00pm in the Corrigan Gym. (Sit-down dinner tickets are sold out, but take-out dinner tickets are available.) It promises to be a tasty meal, with all the fixin s, and for a very good cause. There is some local interest. Both Bishop Lennon and our good friend, Dave Kelly long-time folk group leader here are battling this disease. There are also several basket raffles with great prizes. You can check those baskets out today after Mass. Stop by the Corner School Meeting Room and take a chance or two. We have heard from several places that we help to supply with canned goods that their stocks are running low. So we will move our Canned Goods Drive from November to October this year. Beginning next week, and all during October, please leave your canned goods in the church lobbies when you come to Mass or at any time during the week. We will make sure that your gifts are delivered to those who most need them. It will also give our SVdeP extra time to assemble Thanksgiving baskets. A few reminders: newly engaged couples, please contact the priest of your choice and get a confirmed church date for your wedding BEFORE booking a hall, bands, etc. Got a suggestion or an observation you would like to share with Parish Council? Jot those ideas down and leave them in the Suggestion Box in the church lobby. Make it a habit to check the monitor screens in the church lobbies for up-to-date news and various details about parish programs.
