The MESSENGER May 2018 Volume 6, Issue 5 A Message from Pastor Jason White Inside this issue: Senior Adult Ministry News 2 I am so excited to announce to you that this month (May) we will pay off more of our debt, and when we do our balance will be down to only $294,750! In March of 2016, as we entered into the Freedom Initiative we were $1,500,000 in debt, and in just over 2 years, YOU as a UNITED church have partnered together to pay off $1,205,250 of that debt! That is just incredible, and I am praising God for His work and your commitment to be debt free! After celebrating our 2 year anniversary in March of this year, we collected $30,314 throughout the rest of that month and were able to put that with the final $125,000 that our matching donor gave during the month of April to help get us down under the $300K on total debt owed. We will continue to make our monthly $13,000 debt service payment over the remaining 10 months of our Freedom Initiative Campaign which means that if we can collect $150,000-175,000 over these last 10 months in Freedom Initiative giving, it is estimated that we could be debt free by the end of our campaign in March, 2019! I am so proud of you. I am so proud to be a part of a church who wants to reach the people of this community and will sacrificially give above and beyond normal giving to fulfill this mission we ve been given. Let s pray boldly for God to provide the money to be debt free by the end of this campaign. Let s finish strong! Senior Adult Ministry Ephesians 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. The real enemy in our Christian walk is often not what it appears. Problems, differences and disagreements may seem at the surface like they are just about people with different viewpoints, but this verse is clear that a great battle is being waged in the unseen spiritual realm. One common strategy of Satan, our true enemy, is to foster and create disunity. Nothing will cripple a friendship, a marriage or even a church like a lack of unity. Jesus was clear about the importance of this unity in John 17. 22 The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected [g] in unity, so that the world may [h] know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. 24 Let s remember that in Him we find peace in our lives and in our relationships no matter how hard the going gets! John 16:33 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation but take courage; I have overcome the world. In Christ, John Berryhill Pastor to Senior Adults & Pastoral Care 512.282.0875, x26 john@manchacabaptist.org Children s Ministry How is it already May!? The school year is coming to an end and we want to celebrate with all MBC Kids and families with an End of School Rollerskating Bash at Austin Roller Rink on the evening of May the 6th from 5:30-7:30. It is $5 to skate and we will be providing pizza for all guests! Please mark your calendar for that fun event! This month we want to teach our preschoolers that God has a plan for them. Imagine how much better the lives of our preschoolers and, well, all of us could be if we lived like God has a plan for us, and that God s plan is always best. We would be the complete Works of Art that God created us to be. THE PLANS OF THE LORD STAND FIRM FOREVER. - Psalm 33:11. Also in May, our elementary kids will learn about the importance of honesty and the connection between honesty and God s character. By the end of the month it is my prayer that they will know that honesty is choosing to be truthful in whatever they say and do. As we move towards the final days of our 2017-2018 school year, please know that we are here for you and we feel honored to serve alongside you at MBC. In His Joy, Jenny Childress Children s Director 512-282-0875, x18; jenny@manchacabaptist.org Children s/preteen Camp Reminder **REMINDER** Final Camp Balance is due May 20th for Children's Camp and Preteen Camp! Student Ministry Hey MBC Family! Can you believe it s the last month of school for our families and students? Looking back, it has been an amazing year for MBC Students and we are so excited to see what the Lord has in store for years to come. For those of y all who have been praying for MBC Students, thank you so much. We do recognize that was a huge part of the success and blessing the Lord brought about this year. Our ministry is so glad to be partnering with everyone as we raise up the next generation to be madly in love with Jesus. May is short for us, but we do have a lot going on May 6 th that you may want to take note of. Starting during second service, we will have baptisms going on where 3 STUDENTS WILL BE GETTING BAPTIZED!!! Please join us if you can. Also, after that service our Student Mission team will be hosting a Spaghetti lunch to raise support for their mission trip to San Antonio this summer. Lunch plates are by donation only and everything goes back into the mission trip. Last, is that night we will be holding our Family Ministry end of the year party for all kids and students at Austin Roller Rink. Also, on May 20 th during second service we will be recognizing our senior class and praying for them as they go out to be a light to this world. Last, Ashlee and I wanted to thank everyone for making our first year here so amazing. We are so happy we are here, and a majority of that reason is due in large part to you. We hope to keep serving MBC in a capacity that is glorifying to God and helps expand His Kingdom. Thank you for all of the prayers and encouragement over this last year. We love you deeply and are here for whatever you need. Because of Grace, Tanner Shumake, Student Pastor 512-282-0875, ext. 22 Tanner@manchacabaptist.org Senior Sunday Join us May 20th during the 10:45 Worship Service as we celebrate our graduating high school seniors as they embark on their next phase of life.
