REVIEW ACTIVITY: (7 minutes) Use the activity below or the Bible Learning Game from the Involvement Helps for Younger Children. Gospel Concentration Prepare sixteen 4½ squares from posterboard. Back them with flocking so they will adhere to the flannelboard. If you choose, you could make your squares from felt. Number the squares on the front side, 1-16. Make a duplicate copy of the eight Gospel symbols and back them for the flannelboard. On the flannelboard, place the Gospel symbols behind the numbered squares. When you are reviewing the Bible Lesson, the child who correctly answers the question is given a chance to remove two squares trying to match the symbols. As the children remove the squares, explain the meaning of each symbol. (BIBLE - God s Word tells us the good news about Jesus; DARK HEART - Our sin separates us from God; CIRCLE - God loves you and me and sent His Son to pay for our sins; CROSS - Jesus died for us; TOMB - Jesus didn t stay dead, but rose again; U - Have you trusted Jesus as your Saviour from sin? WHITE HEART - Clean heart when Jesus is your Saviour; HEAVEN - Place where those who have trusted Jesus to be their Saviour will go when their life on earth is over.) If the two symbols do not match, cover them again with the squares. When the symbols do match leave them uncovered. - Adapted. Review questions for JOSEPH #3: 1. How did it happen that Joseph was working for Potiphar in the land of Egypt? (Potiphar bought him from the traders.) 2. Why was Potiphar pleased with Joseph's work? (He did his work heartily, and the Lord was with him.) 3. How do you know that Potiphar was pleased with him? (Joseph was in charge of all Potiphar's property.) 4. What happened because Potiphar's wife lied about Joseph? (Joseph was put in jail.) 5. Why was the chief jailer pleased with Joseph? (The Lord was with Joseph.) 6. What proof do we have that the jailer was pleased with Joseph's work? (He put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners.) 7. One day the man in charge of the prison introduced Joseph to two new prisoners. Who were they? (The king's butler and baker.) 8. What happened that caused the butler and baker to be sad one morning? (They had dreams that they could not understand and had no one to explain them.) 9. What did Joseph do when they told him about their dreams? (He said God could give the meaning of dreams and told them what they meant.) 10. The dreams came true that Joseph explained to them. The baker died and the butler went back to work for the king. INVOLVEMENT HELPS FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN by Linda D. Ruth and Ralph Bechtel JOSEPH #3 Joseph, the Prisoner MEMORY VERSE: Entire verse Colossians 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men. This can be sung to the tune Pop Goes the Weasel. All a- round the c- ob- bler s bench the mon- key chased the wea- sel. And - what- so- ev- er ye do - -, do it heart- i- ly, - The mon- key thought twas al - l in fun. Pop! Goes the wea- sel. - - as - - to the - Lord, and not un- to me- n. Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men. Colossians 3:23 Hands as an open Bible. Arms outstretched. Move hands to make a heart shape. Index fingers pointing toward Heaven. Shake head from side to side. Hands as an open Bible. BIBLE LESSON HELPS: Scene 1 Ask, What kind of work might he have done? Allow children to answer and act out the work. Scene 2 Scene 3 Scene 4 Scene 5 Spread fingers in front of face as Joseph looking through prison bars. Emphasize The Lord (point upward) was with Joseph (hands in front of face as prison bars) by having children say the words with you at several places throughout the scene. Squeeze juice from grapes into cup and hand cup to Pharaoh. Flap arms for birds coming. Have birds eat out of basket on baker s head. Put hands in front of face and shake head from side to side, as Joseph is forgotten by the butler. BIBLE LEARNING GAME: Pout or Praise Prepare a paper circle with a happy face on one side, a sad face on the other. Have children sit in a circle. One child sits in the middle, as Joseph in prison. At signal, children pass the happy/sad face around the circle until Joseph says, Stop! Give one example, such as: - cleaning your room without being asked (praise). - offering to set the table (praise). - stomping your feet when told to turn off the TV (pout). Child with happy/sad face holds up either pout/praise side. Others help by showing praise or pout on their actual faces. Then say, Joseph did his jobs eagerly even in prison. God also wants you to do everything heartily unto the Lord. Child holding the happy/sad face becomes the next Joseph. Continue as time allows. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. GO AND TELL BOX Week #2 Where Does a Missionary Go? (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box a picture of a sandals.) What do you think sandals have to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) When you and I want to go somewhere, we can get in our cars and drive, but many missionaries do not have cars like you and I do. Many missionaries have to walk everywhere they go. WHERE DOES A MISSIONARY GO? (Use WHERE wordstrip.) A missionary does not have to go very far to tell someone about Jesus. It might be in their home, neighborhood, school, or city, but some go to countries that are very far away. Missionaries travel by car, jeep, plane, bus, boat, or bike to take the Gospel to the people who live in big cities and little villages, in houses and huts, in the mountains and the valleys. It does not matter where they live. They just want to tell these people the good news about Jesus. WHERE DO OUR MISSIONARIES SERVE? (Show pictures as you mention their name.) HAITI (Use HAITI wordstrip and map.) Haiti is located in the Carribean Sea, between Florida and South America, near Cuba. Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. Pastor Lucien and Mrs. Maude Saül are serving the Lord in their home country, Haiti. SURINAME (Use SURINAME wordstrip and map.) The Jenkins were missionaries for many years in Suriname, South America; however, Mr. Jared s doctor says that he can no longer live in Suriname. Mr. Jared has a very serious medical problem, so they are living in Florida now. They are still missionaries. Occasionally, they return to Suriname, for a short visit with the people. USA (Use USA wordstrip and map.) The Luttmanns live here in America and help other missionaries and teachers have colorful visuals to teach children about Jesus. The Snavelys also live here in America. They help men, women, and children know the truth about creation. Sometimes, they even go to other countries around the world. LET S PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONARIES: THANK God for the freedom they have to tell others about Jesus. There are places in the world where missionaries are not wanted and are not permitted to go. PRAY that many adults and children in these countries will come to know Jesus as their Saviour. Ask the Lord to give our missionaries safety as some travel many miles, telling the people about the Lord Jesus. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O.
