Worship Service Meditation James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Prone to wander Lord I feel it Prone to leave the God I love Here's my heart Lord take and seal it Seal it for Thy courts above Call to Worship Psalm 147:1-5 *Hymn of Praise Our God, Our Help #26 Verses 1-4, 7 First Tune *Invocation Confession of Sin [Adapted from John Knox's Liturgy of 1560] Almighty God, we are unworthy to come into your presence, because of our many sins. We do not deserve any grace or mercy from you. We have sinned against you, and we have offended you. And yet, as we acknowledge our sins and offenses, so also do we acknowledge you to be a merciful God, a loving and favorable Father, to all who turn to you. And so we humbly ask you, for the sake of Christ your son, to show mercy to us, and forgive us all our offenses. Forgive the sins of our youth, and the sins of our old age. By your Spirit, O God, take possession of our hearts, so that, not only the actions of our life, but also the words of our mouths, and the smallest thought of our minds, may be guided and governed by you. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Words of Assurance Psalm 139:7-18 Shepherding Prayer Elder Michael Anderson Songs of Praise Praise Team Behold our God Jonathan Baird, Meghan Baird, Ryan Baird, and Stephen Altrogge Who has held the oceans in His hands? Who has numbered every grain of sand? Kings and nations tremble at His voice All creation rises to rejoice
CHORUS Behold our God seated on His throne Come, let us adore Him Behold our King nothing can compare Come, let us adore Him Who has given counsel to the Lord? Who can question any of His words? Who can teach the One who knows all things? Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds? CHORUS Who has felt the nails upon His hands? Bearing all the guilt of sinful man God eternal, humbled to the grave Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign CHORUS You will reign forever Let Your glory fill the earth Oh Glorious Day M. Hall/M. Bleecker One day when heaven was filled with His praises; One day when sin was as black as could be, Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin. Dwelt among men, my example is He. Word became flesh and the light shined among us His glory revealed. CHORUS Living He loved me, dying He saved me. Buried, He carried my sins far away. Rising He justified freely forever. One day He s coming Oh glorious day, Oh, glorious day! One day they led Him up Calvary s mountain; One day they nailed him to die on a tree: Suffering anguish, despised and rejected. Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He. Hands that healed nations stretched out on a tree, and took the nails for me. CHORUS
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer One day the stone rolled away from the door. Then, He arose, over death He had conquered. Now He s ascended, my Lord evermore. Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him from rising again! CHORUS One day the trumpet will sound for His coming One day the skies with His Glories will shine. Wonderful day, my beloved ones bringing My Savior Jesus is mine. One day He s coming Oh glorious day, Oh glorious day! Glorious day! CCLI 578579 Offertory Psalm 3 Susan Smith, Laird Weitzel Susan and Laird will play this song through once and then the congregation will sing the verses below. It is to the tune of Amazing Grace. O Lord, how are my foes increased! Against me many rise. How many say, In vain for help He on his God relies! You are my shield and glory Lord; You lifted up my head. I cried out, Lord! and from His hill to me His answer sped. I lay down, slept, and woke again. The Lord is keeping me. I will not fear ten thousand men Entrenched surrounding me. Arise, O Lord! Save me, my God! You punish all my foes. You smite the face of wicked men, There teeth break with your blows. Deliverance is from the Lord, Salvation His alone! O Let Your blessing evermore Be on Your people shown! NEW CHALLENGE It has been a while since Pastor Barry gave a challenge based on his latest sermon - so back by popular demand - Here is a new challenge! This challenge is based on a point Pastor B made in last Sunday s sermon. Here it is: In Ephesians 4:8, the Apostle Paul quotes from Psalm 68:18, which says, the Lord received gifts among men. However, when Paul quotes from Psalm 68:18 in Ephesians 4:8, he says the Lord gave gifts to men. Some commentators believe that Paul was using an Aramaic translation of the Old Testament which says, he gave gifts to men which was useful in demonstrating his point that the Lord gives His people gifts. Question to investigate: What is the Aramaic translation or paraphrase of the Old Testament called? The first person to email Pastor Barry after Sunday s service with the correct answer will receive a prize. You can email him at barry_cureton@libertychurchpca.org. Contest Rules: No age limit but if you are two years old and get the answer, Pastor B will be highly skeptical that you didn t have some help. However, you can make it a family project. As with all promotions, my family members are excluded. Prize to be determined based on what Pastor B might have in his garage that he wants to get rid of. Winner to be announced once we have one. Don Pahl was the winner of our last challenge.
