LIBERTY CHURCH, PCA A congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America Sunday, January 28, 2018 Praising God Connecting with His People Advancing His Kingdom Dr. Barry Cureton Shepherding Pastor Phill & Kelly Thomas Youth Directors
Worship Service Meditation 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Prelude Welcome and Announcements Pastor Barry Silent Prayer of Preparation Song of Assent Praise Team 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord Oh My Soul) Matt Redman CHORUS Bless the Lord, oh, my soul, oh my soul, worship His holy name Sing like never before oh, my soul; I worship Your holy name. The sun comes up, it s a new day dawning. It s time to sing Your song again. Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, Let me be singing when the evening comes. CHORUS You re rich in love and you re slow to anger. Your Name is great and Your heart is kind. For all your goodness I will keep on singing Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find. CHORUS And on that day when my strength is failing, The end draws near and my time has come, Still my soul will sing Your praise unending Ten thousand years and then forever more! CHORUS I worship Your holy Name; Lord, I worship your holy Name.
Call to Worship Psalm 103:1-6;19-22 *Hymn of Praise I Love Thy Kingdom Lord #280 Sung to a different tune *Invocation *Confession of Faith God s Sovereign Salvation Romans 8:28-34 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be [i] against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died more than that, who was raised who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us Hymn of Response Fairest Lord Jesus #129 v. 1 and 4 Confession of Sin Most Holy and Merciful Father, we acknowledge and confess before You our sinful nature prone to evil and slothful in good and all our shortcomings and offenses against You. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from Your ways, in wasting Your gifts, in forgetting Your love. O lord, have mercy on us, who are ashamed and sorry for all wherein we have displeased You. Teach us to hate our errors, cleanse us from our secret faults, and forgive our sins for the sake of Your dear Son. And O most holy and loving Father, send Your purifying grace into our hearts, we beseech You, that we may henceforth live in Your light and walk in Your ways, according to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Words of Assurance Psalm 103:8-13 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him Shepherding Prayer Elder Chuck Klein *Songs of Thanksgiving Holiness Holiness, Holiness is what I long for Holiness is what I need Holiness, Holiness is what You want from me. 7 Standing for Reelection as Elder: Glenn Cote Standing for Reelection as Deacon: Chris Byrd John Kitchen Standing for Election as Deacon: Mark Fuhrer Below is a short bio submitted by Mark: My family came from Warren, Pa. Mom was a Baptist and Dad attended the Evangelical United Brethern Church. We moved to Pittsburgh and joined Mount Hope United Presbyterian Church, where Mom taught Sunday school and Dad was a trustee and a choir member. I joined that church on my 13th birthday. We moved a few times, to Cherry Hill, NJ, Vienna, VA, and then back to Pittsburgh, always attending a UPC church. Then we left during the "great divide" and joined a church with a more "PCA" statement of faith. By this time I was in college, having some lively discussions with my Methodist Religion profs! After I entered the real world, I did not join any particular church for years. However, God, in His providence, guided me from Catonsville to Reisterstown, and the Fuhrers moved into a house two doors away from Oliver and Fiona Deardon! Jackie and I finally found Liberty and became happy members. We both feel called by God to serve and glorify Him. We are involved in several programs and being considered for Deaconship is a blessing, for which I am grateful. Free Digital Photo Frames Available FREE. There are several digital photo frames (brand new) on the shelf in the coat closet-help yourself. Youth Group Please check our Google Calendar for dates and times for Youth Group Events in Let Phill or Kelly know if you want to be on the distribution list.
Contest! Pastor Barry didn t get to all of his points in his last sermon Blessed based on Ephesians 1:3-14. As a follow-up he would like to offer a contest to see who can be the first to answer this thought provoking, challenging question which was one of the points he didn t get to: Here it is: Last week we saw how verse 3 reveals the Trinity in that Paul mentions directly the Father and the Son and eludes to the Holy Spirit in the term Spiritual blessings. Now, how would you divide verse 3 14 to show the work of the Trinity in this passage? In other words, where does Paul mention the work of each Person of the Trinity in this passage? The first person to Pastor Barry after Sunday s service with the correct answer will receive a prize. You can him at barry_cureton@libertychurchpca.org. Contest Rules: No age limit but if you are two years old and get the answer, Pastor B will be highly skeptical that you didn t have some help. However, you can make it a family project. As with all promotions, my family members are excluded. Prize to be determined based on what Pastor B might have in his attic that he wants to get rid of. Winner to be announced once we have one. Elaine Cullen was the winner of our last challenge. Have fun figuring it out.

Ephesians 1: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both [a] which are in heaven and which are on earth in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who [b] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
