Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER Our sympathy to the families of Donald Vogt, Bernita Seitzer, and Mary Jane Borrell who have died in the recent weeks. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. (I apologize if I forgot anyone, too). Congratulations to Mark Kauffmann and Brittany Corson who were married last weekend. May they enjoy many years of married life. In my homily two weekends ago, I spoke on marriage. At our recent Pastoral Leader Days, we heard a presentation by World-Wide Marriage Encounter. As I listened, I could not help but think of my message. Marriage Encounter is for all couples, but is especially for those who have good marriages that want to take that next step. I encourage couples to think about attending. While it is a commitment of time and treasure, it is an profound investment in yourselves, your spouse, and your children. You can find information about the weekends at SouthMNWWME.org, or contact the local coordinators Craig and Barb Wetter (craig.barb.wetter@wwme.org). Pastoral Leader Days were thought provocation. The presenter is on staff at the St. Luke s Institute in Maryland. The Institute deals with in-patient treatment of priests and religious who are in need of psychological assistance. They are also a place where priests who are sexually abusive or struggling with celibacy are sent for help. While he referred to some of the insights that come from that work, his presentations were really about proper boundaries, setting a rule for life, and an encouragement to assess our self-care. The priests and religious most likely to get into trouble are the ones who lack emotional intelligence and neglect self-care. While there are a few areas that I need to improve in, by and large I think that my self-assessment is fair. In Christ, ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND/LITTLE ANGELS NEWS We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 507.931.2810 We are a school readiness program focused on faith and service which nurtures the whole child embracing individual talents and abilities in a welcoming, caring, and safe environment. 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time 3

CHURCH OF ST. PETER Mass 101 - A Walk Through the Mass Have you ever wondered why we do things the way we do at Mass each Sunday. Fr. Mike Schmitz has a 60 minute DVD presentation of the Walk through the Mass. Come and dig a little deeper into the Mass. This video will be shown on 3 different evenings: Oct. 22 at 6:30 pm at St. Paul's Oct. 25 at 6:30 pm at St. Peter's Oct. 28 at 7:00 pm at St. Peter's Up-Coming Faith Formation Calendar Faith Formation Contacts PreK-6, Adult: Mary Grack mary.grack@churchofstpeter.org LifeTeen: Heather Gilbertson heather.gilbertson@churchofstpeter.org Edge: Ben Braswell ben.braswell@churchofstpeter.org Confirmation: John Thoemke john.thoemke@churchofstpeter.org Catholic Daughters Thanks to all the members that came to the meeting on Tuesday and to the October unit for a great treat. CDA Sunday is October 21 st and we would invite members to attend Mass in a group if at all possible or if you are in attendance with family to wear the sash of our Court. We will be handing out a brochure to the women so you may get a lot of questions (hopefully) about joining. Gummi Bears will also be in the narthex. Next meeting is November 13 with a Mass for Deceased Members. Next Regent Outing is October 21 meet at CC at 5 Growing Together in a Stewardship It s Time This years, we are focusing on stewardship here in our Area Faith Community. It s time to think about what we, as parishioners, can accomplish in the coming year. Time is a gift from God. You cannot buy it, sell it or stop it. However, you can use time and you have a choice on how you use it. God is going to ask you how well you used the time He gave you. All of you are busy, but are you doing what God wants you to do? Or, are you doing what others say is best for you? Only you know what is best for you. You are awake 16 hours a day. What if you took 16 minutes of your day and purposely gave them 100% back to God for His use. That would amount to about two hours per week. Mass takes one hour, what can you do with the other hour, about 8 minutes per day. Say a short prayer whenever you can. Thank God for your life, your friends and your faith. Give a warm heartfelt greeting to everyone you meet. Be friendly. Listen carefully to what they have to say. Maybe that is the Holy Spirit talking to you through them. Visit a relative, a neighbor or a friend. Volunteer at Church. Learn something new to increase your skills. Help on a community project. Write a thank you card. Play a game with your children. Read the bible. Practice daily prayer. Listen to Catholic radio. These are just a few of the thousands of examples of stewardship of your time. God gave you a unique amount of time that you are to use to get the job done that He wants you to do. Pray about how you will use your time in the next 12 months. God will show you the way! You will feel good knowing that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. Being a Good Steward is Rewarding 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time 5

INFORMATION Catholic Watchmen Gathering The Catholic Watchmen is a movement calling men to be protectors, providers and leaders of their families and parishes. Through regular gatherings, men will come together to join in this mission to protect their families through dinner, fellowship, learning, and prayer. Our first gathering will be on October 29th from 6:30-8:30pm. Deacon Mark Kober will be speaking about being a Catholic man following the example of St. Peter. All men of our parish are invited to the event. Future gathering will be on January 28th and May 6th. World Mission Sunday Today, with Catholics of the world, we are called to offer, at this Eucharistic celebration, our prayers and our generous financial support, through The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to continue the mission of Jesus. Today we speak up through our prayers and personal sacrifices for our brothers and sisters in the Missions. As little as $25 helps support a catechist for a month in Latin America, $75 provides for the work of religious Sisters in Africa, $100 assists children in schools in Asia As always, your prayers are your most treasured gift to the Missions. Your prayers and financial help, offered today, WORLD MISSION SUNDAY, support mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists who are Christ s witnesses to a world so in need of His healing love and peace. Sexual Abuse Anyone who has suffered sexual abuse by a priest or another person involved in Church ministry is encouraged to immediately report such abuse to local law enforcement, regardless of when it occurred, if it has not yet been reported.
