Psalm-The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy (Psalm 126). Second Reading -It was not Christ who glorified himself, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you (Hebrews 5:1-6). Gospel -Immediately the blind man received his sight and followed Jesus on the way (Mark 10:46-52). OFFICE HOURS Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Closed for lunch 12:00-1:00 p.m. Saturday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. (Closed Sundays) THE HOPE AND PROMISE OF REDEMPTION The prophet Jeremiah prophesies the end of the Babylonian exile. He describes how the weak and sorrowful people now return with joy. These are the scattered people of God: the blind and the lame, the mothers and pregnant women. They shall be led along an easy road so that no one will stumble. The Lord s kindness and mercy are on all these weak and broken people. Here and in Psalm 126 we find the most lovely poetic images of God s love and care for us. Those that sow in tears / shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weeping, / carrying the seed to be sown, / they shall come back rejoicing, / carrying their sheaves (Psalm 126:5 6). Although God had to punish Israel for their many sins, God never forgot them, scattered as they were, and brings them all back to the land of their ancestors, there to flourish and be joyful again. We can see in this the hope and the promise of our own redemption, gathered from the far corners of the earth into the great banquet of God. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

First 30th Sunday in of Ordinary Advent - December Time October 3, 201728, 2018 There are three wonderful events happening in the next 8 days! I hope that you can take the time to attend all or any of them; each of them in their own way will be inspiriting, spiritual and educational. Each of them is an opportunity to reach beyond our own parish needs and concerns and see the bigger picture of the world in which we live. 1. This Sunday night, October 28, we have the French Boys Choir performing in the Church at 7:00 p.m. They are lead by François Olivier and Véronique Thomassin from Paris. The choir has been visitng the United States througout this month October; prior to their Las Vegas visit, they will have been at a parish in Phoenix, Arizona. This group are 19 boys and teenager --ranging in ages from 11-17. They are being housed in the homes of our own parishioners who have children or teens rouglhly in the same age group. I am housing François and his wife and their two children. The program gives young boys a special experience of life through singing and group life. Traveling in various countries also gives them the opportunity to discover different cultures. Their life is made of concerts, television shows, singing lessons, tours and participating in the liturgy. They regularly give concerts of the repertoire (Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria, etc.) in prestigious places, and also sing for humanitarian causes. They will offer music of the sixteenth century and the well known Hallelujah from Handel, Ave Maria from Gounod, as well as music pieces of the French folklores. They will also exclusively sell their last CD. Please make every effort to attend. All Saints Day THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1 HOLY DAY MASS SCHEDULE: 7:30 a.m. 12:00 noon 6:00 p.m. All Soul s Mass Holy Spirit Catholic Church Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 @ 6:00 p.m. You are invited to the All Soul s Day Liturgy to commemorate those loved ones who have gone before us. 2. Next Saturday, November 3, at 9:00 a.m. in the Church will be "The Lourdes Experience: a Virtual Pilgrimage Program" It will consist of the following elements: Prayerful Reflection -- an invitation to reflect and pray in silence throughout the spiritual experience; Lourdes Water will be offered to all "pilgrims"". It is authenic undiluted Lourdes Water from the Spring in the Grotto in Lourdes, France, bottled by North American Lourdes Volutneers in Syracuse, NY. Eucharistic Blessing will be offered which includes Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. A candlelight Rosary will be recited during the Service. Following the program, several priests will be available for the hearing of individual confessions. 3. Next Sunday, November 4, Holy Spirit will host one of the annual Interfaith Forum events. See page 9 for full details. I will be on the panel of presenters. The topic is how our different faiths handle adversity and suffering both individually and in the world. The Forum Session begins at 7:00 p.m. and will last for 90 minutes. : HOW MY FAITH HELPS THE WORLD DEAL WITH ADVERSITY AND HELPS THE INDIVIDUAL Come to me, all you who are weary, and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Please join us before Mass to sign your loved one s name in the Book of Remembrance. Page 4
