Grand Knight Report Paul Maher I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:2 Dear Brother Knights, Families, and Friends, Thanks for the blessing and support that you have given to our Council for the Fraternal Year 2017. We are called to serve all men and women and to acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. What a blessing that we have when we gather as fellow knights in Charity, Unity and Fraternity. October 4th Business Meeting: Members attending were Paul Maher (GK), Drew Armentrout (DGK) - excused, John LaFleur (Chancellor) - excused, Juan Gonzalez (Financial Secretary), Bill Miller (Warden) - excused, Richard Beckrich (Lecturer), Mark Reljac (Treasurer), Tom Kemp (3-Year Trustee), Jim Justice (2-Year Trustee) - excused, Jack Kearney (1-Year Trustee) - excused, Ernest Reid (Inside Guard), Bob Bienski (Bulletin), Mark Keating (Outside Guard), Rodney Mirabal, Woodie Hill, Johnny Kennard and Uche Onyebad. Rosary was recited at 07:15 PM. Grand Knight Report: Supreme is now receiving request for Educational Grants for 2018. Please pray for the shooting victims of the Church attack in Southern Texas. Bishop Dunne Council 2813 Memorial Mass for our departed Brothers is scheduled for 27 November 2017 and will be celebrated with a Rosary and Mass at Saint Francis Village Chapel beginning at 7:00 PM. Richard Beckrich stated that the 29 October 2017 Corporate Communion Brunch at Saint Francis Village was attended by the largest number of people ever. Old Business: Tootsie Roll Drive planned for Saturday, October 25, 2017, at the corner of McCart Blvd and Sycamore School Road was cancelled. I delayed getting the permit and the young lady that distributes the permits was out on leave. The Alternate date was scheduled for November 4th but was cancelled since my wife, Shirley, and I planned to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary with our family on that date. Joe Govea, District Deputy #25 distributed a booklet Handbook for Councils Using Home Corporations Facilities to the Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, two Trustees, and Financial Secretary to review and fill out so that Supreme can verify that we have closed out our Home Corporation Facilities. Our Trustee, Tom Kemp, stated that he had read the document several times and felt that this book was written by a Committee of Lawyers. He did state that we had met the requirements when we closed out our Bishop Dunne Building Association and placed the sale of the Building into a Trust Agreement. Our Trust Agreement does state that if Council 2813 does close out that the monies will be sent to Knight of Columbus Charities. I agreed with Tom s statement since I too read the Handbook several time and talked it over with our District Deputy Joe Govea. I did state that if our Council did plan to rent a building or purchase a building in the future, then they would be obligated to follow the Handbook and submit the forms for Supreme. Each Council (Saint Rita, Saint Patrick and Council 2813) received $1217.57 after the closure of our Chicken-on-a-Stick adventure. I read a letter from Bill Miller regarding a Charity at Rock Port, Texas which had been devastated by Hurricane Harvey and recommended dispersing some of this money to this Charity to purchase a gift for each child. After discussing, a motion was made to pay off our State Charities Responsibility which the Tootsie Roll would have accomplished. Motion made by Tom Kemp and seconded Richard Beckrich and passed. 3 January 2018 Business Meeting is cancelled.

Church Jack Kearney, PGK Saint Francis Village Chapel has a Communal Sacrament of the Sick during the 9:00 AM Mass on the first Thursday of the each month. In December the Mass will be on December 7th. Knights of Columbus Parish Masses - The Saturday evening Vigil Mass at Saint Bartholomew will be at 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM at Saint Francis Village on December 23rd. The Sunday Masses will be at 10:00 AM at Saint Francis Village and 11:00 AM at Saint Bartholomew on December 24th. We ask all Knights to sit with their families for the Mass. Wear your KC badge if you have one. We will not have a Pro-Life Mass in December because it falls on Christmas Day and everyone will be busy with Christmas. Try to remember the Un-born on Christmas Day. We will also not have a Corporate Communion in December as it would be on New Year s Eve and too many people will be busy with the New Year s preparations. Pro-Life Jack Kearney, PGK We often fail to remember how much suffering goes along with an abortion. Not just the baby that dies, but also the mother that is left with a very real emptiness and guilt. This guilt sometimes even causes the mother to do harm to herself. We should remember this and pray for the mothers. They need our help too. Rachel s Corner is an organization whose purpose is the minister to the mothers who have had an abortion. Here are some of the literature they offer plus they have retreats. Please keep them in mind when you are praying perhaps at our next Pro-Life Mass.

Sunshine Paul Maher Many of our Brothers and family members are in need of our daily prayers. Please notify me if you want me to remove or add someone s name to the bulletin's prayer list. Call me at 817-319-3971 or e-mail me at pmaher1901@yahoo.com or paul.maher@lmco.com. Our Council has decided, if we don't hear from you after four months, I will start removing names from the monthly Council bulletin. Also, notify me if you want me to send a Get Well or Sympathy Card to someone. Also, for our Brother Knights, their wives or their family members that have passed away, please notify me so a Gate Fold of Spiritual Union of Perpetual Adoration can be given to surviving family members. Individuals on our current prayer are: Mary Alyce (Granddaughter of PGK Morris Stallings) PGK Drew Armentrout and his mother Brother Guy Bair JoAnn Bair (Mother of Brother Guy Bair who passed away) Bother Richard Beckrich and his wife Louise Pat Collins (Wife of Deceased Brother Richard Collins) Emma Delila (Great Granddaughter of Brother Woodie Hill) Gloria Elliot (Death of Ernest Reid s Sister) Moses Estrada (Brother of Brother Ramon Estrada Jr) PGK Vic Fedor and his wife Audrey Liz Freeman (Wife of Deceased PGK John Freeman) Brother Tony Garcia Dustin Grant Brother Woodie Hill Roberta Jacobson (Wife of Morris Jacobson) Margaret Justice (Wife of PGK Jim Justice) Ruth Kemp (Wife of PGK Tom Kemp) Father Lambert (Saint Francis Village) Shirley Maher (Wife of GK Paul Maher) Charlie and Betty Naughton Mother of Brother Brad Pierce Brother Gene Phillips and his wife Ruth PGK Raymond and his wife Dianna Ramos Brother Ernest Reid Luis Sanchez Brother Joe Seilbe - Broken Hip Basil Smith (Cousin of Mark Reljac) PGK Charlie Valdez Pray for our country and its leaders, especially our President and all our military and their families. Community Brad Pierce The Presbyterian Night Shelter (PNS) Sandwich Making Night is on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Saint Francis Village, at 7:00 PM sharp - Arrive Early! We are also making some Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches now. We had to call off our December PNS because of other activities in the Pax Center on Tuesday, December 26th, the day after Christmas. Our next PNS will be Tuesday, January 23rd. We hope to see you then. KOC Insurance Corner Luis Hernandez - Field Agent Your 401K or IRA - Lock up your market gains with the Knights of Columbus and our GUARANTEES! If you have the opportunity to save some of your paycheck in a 401k, DO IT!! If you don't save for yourself, no one will! With that said, in my opinion we should have caution at the same time. Most companies provide a match, if you put in 5%, the company will put in 5%. Everyone should 10000% contribute the 5%, if you don't do your part, you lose that pay periods 5% forever! Some want to save more and that is recommended, but I am not a fan of putting more into this account above the match. Why?? Your 401k is set up for you to pay taxes in retirement, 10, 20, 30, 40 years from now. What will taxes be then? Social Security needs help, Medicare needs help, people want healthcare for everyone, college to be free, (not being political). How would the government pay for this, our taxes. So you need to mitigate your tax risk. If you want to save more, you should max out you and your spouses contributions to a ROTH IRA, you get to take this money in retirement at a ZERO percent tax bracket! Our team can help you with this! NO INCOME TAXES ARE PAID WHEN YOU WITHDRAW. I know some can't contribute to a ROTH as their income is too high. Solution, buy as much Knight of Columbus permanent life insurance you can buy! As our permanent policies cash values are available to you in retirement the same as a ROTH account would be, but there are no limits! As an added benefit, if you don't spend the money, you would leave a leveraged amount of money to your beneficiaries tax free! Lastly, if you quit, get fired or retire, call our team and discuss your options to GUARANTEE your retirement going forward! Most of our members choose to rollover their 401k to the Knights of Columbus to guarantee to NEVER lose money on it again. Guaranteed interest, Guaranteed not to lose money, NO FEES, investing with a Catholic company, and backed by the highest rated insurance company. Win, win, win!
