From Our Pastor... Why a Campaign? About a month ago I announced the launching of our fall capital campaign to help move us closer to paying off our debt on the new church. I want to thank all of you who have already been giving generously toward our Development Fund/Debt Reduction. This has allowed us to make our monthly mortgage payments. The timing of this campaign is based on our 10-year pro forma projection with our diocesan loan agreement which requires us to have a proactive plan for debt reduction. Overall, as you see in the quarterly financial statements we provide for you, we are in a good financial position in terms of our mortgage payments and our operating budget. We are using this campaign to reach out to all parishioners to make a renewed commitment to a monthly sacrificial donation directed specifically towards debt reduction, and especially encourage those who have joined our parish in recent years to participate! What Will be Covered at the Campaign Events? These evenings will be filled with Fun, Faith, and Facts. They will be lively social events with time to mix and mingle with other parishioners as we celebrate our faith and our future. At the receptions, you will learn interesting facts about our new church and how it was designed and built, in addition to hearing more details about our financial standing and future goals! Save the Date! Please plan on attending one of these evenings: Sunday, November 22, 4:00 PM Monday, November 23, 6:30 PM Did You Know #4 In our parish vision to be a model of ecological stewardship for others, our church has a geo-thermal heating and cooling system that saves us loads of money since the majority of our heat and A/C are provided by the temperature of the earth! PS: This week I will be working for and joining Matthew Kelly and "Dynamic Catholic" on a pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi. I will be serving as one of three priests for this group of 175 pilgrims, offering Mass, confessions, and spiritual guidance during the 11 days. Know of my prayers for you and your family while I am away November 2-12. Fr. This Tuesday, November 3 6:00 7:30 p.m. Evening of Prayer and Reflection Focusing on the gospel of Luke which we start reading in Advent. All parishioners are invited to attend. The conversation and reflection will be facilitated by Matthew Flynn. Light refreshments will be served. Consecration to Jesus through Mary Nov. 5 Dec. 8 We begin reading 33 Days to Morning Glory This Thursday! There s still time to sign up! We are living in troubled times, with increasing persecution of Christians, school shootings, attacks on marriage and family, culture war and the list goes on. Pope Francis, in calling for the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy beginning December 8, says that mercy is the key to our hope. How are we to prepare for the Year of Mercy? According to Pope Francis, it s Mary. What a wonderful opportunity for us to draw closer to Jesus and His Mercy than through His mother and ours. Join us November 5 as we begin a 33 day preparation for Marian Consecration. For six weeks we ll individually read about and reflect on four great Marian giants: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa and St. Pope John Paul II. We ll learn to draw closer to the Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary. In our optional weekly meetings, Thursday evenings from October 29-December 10, (from 7-8:15 p.m.) we ll share our insights within small groups and then watch a 30 minute video. The video, by popular author and speaker Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, brings our individual reflections and group experience into a clear and live-able focus. Please contact Mary Gomez at 416-1616 or gomezclan@aol.com or JoMary Chenet at 410-330-9156 or fjcfamily@yahoo.com for more information. Eucharistic Adoration This Weekend! Sunday, November 1 after 10:30am Mass until 11:40am Monday, November 2 Followed with Benediction & Mass In our visits and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we experience the closeness of the Good Shepherd, the tenderness of His love, the presence of a faithful friend Pope Francis If you can commit to a holy hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament during these 24 hours, please sign up on the sheets on the round table in the Gathering Space or through email at gomezclan@aol.com. Stewardship Share God s Gifts You have been given wonderful gi s from God Will you share them? For 5 days last weekend, we hosted two priests from our sister parish in Guatemala, Frs. Bernardo and Baltazar. They really enjoyed their visit and wished they could stay longer, thanks in part to our hospitality. Some of the things that stuck out to them were our hospitality, our food, our parishioner involvement, our community and St. Louis attractions, our food, the generosity of our parishioners, and our food just to name a few. It was great to be able to meet with them and discuss our hopes and dreams for our relationship moving forward. It was clear that they have lofty goals for their parish and are hard at work to achieve them, and it was refreshing to hear how much they want to be able to contribute something to our parish life, growth, and development, just as we do for theirs. In just a few days, we were able to talk about our visions, some logistical challenges we have had, what our real needs are, our particular pastoral contexts and challenges, and the ways that we can walk with each other in discipleship. I truly believe that the Holy Spirit was present and active during their visit and our conversations, and I am excited about the fruits that will come as we move forward. Sunday, October 25, 2015 Tithe...$13,877.00 New Church...$ 3,525.00 One man gives freely, yet grows all the richer; Another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Proverbs 11:24 In the meantime, I want to thank everyone who helped with this visit, but especially Margarita Crupe, the Guatemala Committee, and all the volunteers who helped with our various events. I also want to thank everyone who has been and continues to donate to our fund for our sister parish (Our Lord of Esquipulas) and to the scholarship fund that helps pay for tuition, food, clothes, transportation, books, and other necessities that enable children to go to junior high and high school who, otherwise, would not be able to. Thank you for your generosity, and please pray for our relationship, this ministry, all the parishioners in our sister parish, and all the scholarship students, especially those who are graduating and moving on to new things.
