2 From Our Pastor... Merry Christmas! Our parish staff and I express a special welcome to all visitors and all those in our midst who have been away and are coming home for Christmas. It is always encouraging to see the church so full for Christmas and I hope and pray that those returning to Church today will be inspired to join us every Sunday as we all seek to keep God and Sunday Mass as our top priority each week. Thanks to all of our parishioners who are here so faithfully every week to worship God and support our parish. St. Clare parish is a place of Christ s light and hope. Especially as we see an increase in violence and hatred and terrorism both locally and around the world, we as a parish will continue to be a safe haven of peace, hospitality, and hope in all we say and do. Our open doors and prayerful liturgies are our way of being a manger of God s love and welcome to all! Think about how you are a sign of God s hospitality each time you greet someone at church whom you have not met before. In a world of isolation and individualism, we at St. Clare are committed to being a family community with care and concern for both our members and those beyond our doors. Please notice the bulletin insert that lists all of the upcoming activities and faith formation opportunities coming up in the next few months. Volunteers Needed Liturgical Ministers Needed for Ministry at Memorial Hospital East Memorial Hospital East in O Fallon will open April, 2016 and will require volunteer Eucharistic Ministers from our parish to provide prayer and Eucharistic Ministry to patients. The Diocese of Belleville / Ministry to the Aged and Sick (MSA) oversees this vital ministry and will hold identical informational meetings at the Pastoral Center in Belleville on February 3 rd at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm to be followed by identical training sessions on February 16 th and 23 rd at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm (need to attend ONLY one session). Individuals who may be interested in this ministry are asked to contact the parish office should they have any questions. CHILD PROTECTION POLICY FOR VOLUNTEERS The Diocese of Belleville Child Protec on Policy requires background checks and training for all volunteers over 18 and out of high school and who will work with children in St. Clare Parish, St. Clare School or Scou ng organiza ons that are sponsored by the school or parish. Volunteers who have not a ended the Ini al Child Protec on Policy Training in the Belleville Diocese must take the two-hour training course once and then an online refresher course each year; both are free of charge. Registra on is required. Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete the registra on process and pick up handouts. School or Scout volunteers should obtain volunteer and background check forms from the school office. Other St. Clare parishioners should pick up forms at the parish office or janeadotson@yahoo.com for informa on. On the day after Christmas, the radio stations stop playing Christmas music, the stores take down decorations, and some may even take down their home decorations. Meanwhile, we Catholics will still be celebrating the miracle of Christmas within the liturgical season of Christmas. This year s Epiphany celebration will include performances by all three parish choirs and the liturgical dancers. The feature of the evening will be a performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors, written for an NBC broadcast in The story focuses on family, giving and most importantly, the gift of the Christ Child.
