March 13, 2016 Fifth Sunday in Lent 10:00 am: Pastor Josh Tuininga (*please stand if able) Welcome and Announcements God Calls Us to Worship *Call to Worship (adapted from Heb. 12:1-3) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. We worship you, Lord. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. We worship you, Lord. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Let us turn our eyes to Jesus and worship him. *Song: LUYH 840 Behold the Lamb *Opening Prayer *Gods Greeting *Song: LUYH 166 Where You There? God Reconciles Us to Himself Call to Confession (adapted from Heb. 4:14-16) When we confess our sins, we do so in recognition that Jesus has already sacrificed and made forgiveness available to us. Hebrews 4 says, Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. In confidence of God s mercy and grace, let us confess our sins together. Prayer of Confession Song of Assurance: LUYH 170 st 1,3,4,5 Man of Sorrows What a Name 2 11
Call to Holy Living (Heb. 10:19, 23-25) Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus... let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
