St Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois page 2 Clinging to Our Treasure You are lacking in one thing Go, sell what you have, and give to the [the] poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me Mark 10:21 How wonderful to receive an invitation like this! But the man Jesus invited was rich, and his wealth prevented him from doing what Jesus asked This gospel story prompts us to ask if there is something that keeps us from following Jesus Perhaps Jesus asks us to let go of our anger or our fear or our selfishness These are all things that would keep us from following him with free and loving minds and hearts The rich man refused Jesus invitation and so lost the chance to change his life Of course, it would have been hard for him to give up his wealth, just as it may be hard for us to give up our particular attachments But Jesus tells us in this gospel that what is impossible for us, is possible for God Lord, I trust in your power to help me follow you as you 40 Days For Life 123 babies verified as saved from abortion thus far in the 40 Days for Life fall campaign! Please continue to offer extra Masses, rosaries, prayers, and sacrifices through November 1st for the intention to end abortion! Prayer: Lord, I pray today for every unborn child The beauty of the bodies and souls of these children flows from your hands and your eternal plan Awaken in every human conscience a profound reverence for human life, and grant us grace to defend our smallest and most defenseless brothers and sisters, those still being formed in the secret places of their mothers womb We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen (Fr Frank Pavone) Baptism Prep Dates Thursday, Nov 5, St Francis, St Clare Hall, 7:00 pm Tuesday, Dec 1, St Isidore (Brian & Karla Slifer s home), 7:00 pm Please call to register Stewardship Corner The famous missionary, Jim Elliot gave us this profound statement: He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose Through faith, we understand the truth in this statement All of our worldly possessions will at some time be taken away from us We will lose them during our lifetimes, or they will be taken away at death They cannot be kept forever However, we have the opportunity to use our material possessions in service to the Lord by giving to those in need Rosary for Life The Effingham Deanery Council of Catholic Women is sponsoring a Rosary for Life, to be held at the Healing Garden and Grotto at St Anthony Memorial Hospital on October 18th at 1:30 pm Please plan to come and bring your families In case of inclement weather, the Rosary will be held in the Hospital Chapel Come bring your family to see the new Healing Garden and Grotto It is impressive and inspirational Come, Pray for Life!
