Mercy Degree given at 250th Anniversary of the Grand Lodge of Perfection ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ R W Kenneth M. White Our Recently Installed District Deputy Grand Master for the Old Seventeenth Masonic District was elected at the 2018 Supreme Council Executive Session to Receive the 33rd Degree at the 2019 Supreme Council Session in Milwaukee The Valley of Albany offers our congratulations to Sublime Prince Kenneth M. White on his election to receive the 33rd degree and on his installation as the District Deputy Grand Master for the Old Seventeenth Masonic District for 2018 to 2020. Sublime Prince Ken White has been a Mason since he was raised in Wadsworth Lodge No. 417 on February 26, 1986. Since being raised, Ken has served in all appointed and elected Lodge offices, including serving as Master of Wadsworth Lodge for two years, and assisting the Lodge and Trustees by being their financial advisor. In addition, Ken has served as financial advisor to many other Masonic bodies and members, including the Valley of Albany and the Board of the Livingston Library. Ken is also a very active member of the Valley of Albany. He joined the Valley on April 21, 1990. Becoming a member of the Scottish Rite was very important to Ken as his father was an active member of the AASR in Ken s home state of Pennsylvania. On most important occasions, you will see Ken displaying his legacy status by proudly wearing his father s 32nd Degree ring. From the moment Ken became a Sublime Prince, he has served in most elected and appointed offices in the Lodge of Perfection, Council Princes of Jerusalem, Master in 2015 2016, Sovereign Prince in 2009 2010, and Most Wise Master in 2012 2013. Ken has consistently devoted his talents and efforts to all activities of the Valley, including planning and participating in all degree conferrals and reunions, planning and presiding over the Feast of the Paschal Lamb, planning and participating in all Valley social and family activities, enthusiastically promoting the AASR for membership development purposes, and prudently managing the Valley funds and advising the Trustees and Executive Board on all financial matters. Ken has been a member of the Valley Executive Board for the past 12 to15 years as an elected officer or as the financial advisor to the Valley Trustees. The Valley has profited significantly from his efforts and wise council. In recognition of his hard work, dedication, and love of Scottish Rite Masonry, Ken was honored by the New York State Council of Deliberation with the Meritorious Service Award in August 2011. We have all benefited in so many ways because of Ken s involvement in Freemasonry. We can be assured that Ken will devote his best efforts on our behalf during his term as District Deputy and as an Honorary 33rd Degree member of the Supreme Council. Be sure to congratulate him for this well- and Chapter of Rose Croix; serving as Thrice Potent deserved honor when next you see him. The Rite Light 3

A Message from the Hospitaler, Knight Commander and Webmaster My Brothers, Hospitaler Thank you for electing me as your valley s hospitaler. I will do my best to see that our valley brothers who are in need of assistance have those needs met. Please consider including a donation to the hospitaler fund when paying your annual dues. All such donations will remain in our local valley for us to use as needed. Please also be as generous as possible when the collection tin is passed at valley events. Any one of us could wind up needing assistance someday and it would be a shame if there were not enough funds in the account at that time of need. Finally, please let me know if you need assistance or if you become aware that one of our valley brothers needs assistance. Knights of the Double Eagle I am happy to report that Sublime Princes James Best, Ralph Pfeiffer, and Bruce Pavloff were knighted as Knights of the Double Eagle at a ceremony held on February 15th. In addition, nine Sublime Princes received a service bar at the ceremony in recognition of their ongoing participation in valley activities. Special thanks to John Scott for serving as Knight Master of Ceremonies for the ceremony. Valley Website I am pleased to announce that an additional thirtyfive Rite Lights have been added to the archive of the newsletters on the Valley website. The archive now contains ninety-three of the newsletters dating back to November 1984. The new additions are mostly from the 1990s and the late 1980s. Even with the additions, gaps remain in the archive. If anyone can provide me with any missing issues, I would be happy to scan and post them on the website. The newsletters can be viewed on the website at http://www.albanyscottishrite.org by clicking on RITE LIGHTS located in the menu near the top of the page. I hope you find the website in general and the newsletter archive in particular to be interesting and useful. Please feel free to contact me at (518) 357-8951 or sconant2@nycap.rr.com. Franken Charter CHARTER OF INEFFABLE AND SUBLIME GRAND LODGE OF PERFECTION ALBANY, N.Y. FROM HENRY ANDREW FRANKEN DECEMBER 20, 1787 My Brothers: Secretary s Note The Valley of Albany, NY has had a very exciting 2018. To begin, the Valley of Albany is the birthplace of Scottish Rite Masonry in the United States and our Lodge of Perfection celebrated its 250th Anniversary on April 14th. This was a gala event attended by Sovereign Grand Commander David Glattly, Most Worshipful Jeffrey Williamson, Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York, as well as many other dignitaries and Sublime Princes from across New York. We had the privilege of displaying our original Francken Charter and other historic documents that were graciously returned to us temporarily by the staff at the Scottish Rite library in Lexington, Mass. The Valley cast also performed the Lincoln Degree for members and guests as an introduction to Scottish Rite Masonry. The Lodge of Perfection anniversary was a joyous occasion of fraternal friendship when we joined together to celebrate the history of Scottish Rite Masonry in Albany and our Country. The Valley further celebrated its history by once again conferring the Four Chaplains Degree on May 17th on board the USS Slater, a decommissioned World War II Navy ship permanently located at the Port of Albany. This degree is significant to Scottish Rite Masons in the Albany area as the Rev. Clark Poling, one of the four chaplains who perished when the SS Dorchester sank in February 1943, was from Schenectady, NY. The Valley of Albany looks forward to this annual event that is enjoyed by Sublime Princes from Valleys located in New York and throughout New England. Finally, the Valley of Albany will join with the Valleys of Troy, Schenectady, and the Hudson to host the Eastern Regional Degree Festival at the Albany Masonic Hall on November 10, 2018. The Valleys will individually confer the 7th, 11th, 22nd (musical version), and 30th degrees and then jointly confer the 32nd degree. This memorable event will be followed by a banquet when our new Sublime Princes will be recognized and awarded their Black Hat and commemorative jewel. Thrice Potent Master James Best, Sovereign Prince Gary Smith, Most Wise Master Edward Kosinski, and Commander-in-Chief Paul Rosenblatt, along with all officers and members of the Valley of Albany, are working very hard to serve our members in all possible ways. Through these efforts, we are attracting members and promoting the Craft. We are excited about the future of our Valley. Sincerely and Fraternally, John W. Scott, 33, Secretary Scottydawg2000@aol.com (518) 283-1168 The Rite Light 6
