February 2016 Council 14995 Newsletter Page 11 OTHER COMPANIES UNIVERSAL LIFE PREMIUMS GOING UP Condensed from the Wall Street Journal 12/5-6/2015: Many people in their 70s and 80s are paying higher premiums on a type of life insurance known as Universal Life. The increase is as much as 20% in some instances. The past decade has been a time of low investment returns and low interest rates, and has put pressure on insurance companies. Bond yields have fallen precipitously. This category of life insurance has a provision, in the contract, called contractual maximum charges somewhere in the depths of their long contract. These provisions let a company raise its premium rates if necessary, at any time, even many years into the contract. This practice, for many years, was considered a taboo. In the past several months, however, AXA, Voya, Aegeon, and Legal & General PLC have hiked their premium prices. Unfortunately, once the barrier has come down, many other companies will copy them. The Knights of Columbus does not have this; it puts too much risk on our policyholder members. We don t want to treat our fellow members like that! You are fellow brothers and mutual owners! Please call me for an evaluation, and possible solution. WIDOWS RIGHT This is a Fraternal Benefit of the Knights of Columbus. When an Insured member of the Order dies, his widow has the right to do new business with the Order. Sadly, when an Associate member dies, his widow does not. We have seen cases in which the widow wanted the safety of our company, and was not able to move funds to us. In either case, the widow may keep whatever insurance she already has with the Knights of Columbus in force. Call me to talk about the details. QLAC We now offer a Qualified Longevity Annuity Contract. These have become very popular, because they enable one to defer IRA taxes later into retirement. Using IRA or other Qualifed funds, one can take a portion, as much as $125,000 or more, and defer RMD (Required Minimum Distribution) until as late as age 84. Call me to discuss this valuable new Annuity.

February 2016 Council 14995 Newsletter Page 14 Three compelling reasons to choose Knights Insurance: Promised Benefits From its humble beginnings, our insurance program has grown into a formidable institution, providing billions of dollars in future death benefits to our members and families. Financial Strength Prudent management has led to the rapid growth of our assets, providing adequate backing for our member s protection, and securing our obligations to our insured's and their beneficiaries. Ownership Benefits Because we re a Fraternal Benefit Society, we have no stockholders. Our owners are our members. We return our good fortune in the form of dividends to our policyholders.
