A Prayer for Mother s Day On this special day set aside to honor mothers, we ask for a special touch from you, Lord, for each and every one of them. We thank you, Lord, for mothers and for the role of motherhood. We thank you for the gentle protection, wise counsel and godly correction they often provide to their children. Thank you for the wisdom and guidance we have received from our own mothers and for the many selfless actions they so often take on behalf of their children. Draw close to all mothers, we pray, and fill each one with grace, strength, patience, and joy. Let their example to their children be a guiding force in their children s lives and may wisdom be passed down to the next generation of mothers. This we ask in the name of your son Jesus. Amen. 5

From The Senior Pastor s Desk May 2018 Word for the Month: AUDACITY Scripture of the Month: James 1-5 Thought for the Month: Tears We Cannot Stop is the book that all Americans who care about the current and long-burning crisis in race relations will want to read. As the country grapples with racist division at a level not seen since the 1960s, one man's voice soars above the rest with conviction and compassion. In his 2016 New York Times op-ed piece "Death in Black and White," Michael Eric Dyson moved a nation. Now he continues to speak out in Tears We Cannot Stop a provocative and deeply personal call for change. Dyson argues that if we are to make real racial progress we must face difficult truths, including being honest about how black grievance has been ignored, dismissed, or discounted. Emphasis for the Month: Social Justice Pastor s Book of the Month: Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America by Michael Eric Dyson 6
