My Dear People: Our Lady of Sorrows Church August 14, 2016 From the Pastor s Desk We all need reminders, and here it is F.P.D. (From the Pastor s Desk). The first session for the P.S.R. program is August 21 st. That is NEXT SUNDAY, and as I write this, the week before, I am faced with the information that last year at this time 98% were registered. This year we are missing 40% of the numbers we had registered at this time last year. This means that Suzanne, Marcy, and I have pushed the PANIC BUTTON AS REGARDS PARENTS MAKING SURE THAT CHILDREN NOT IN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ATTEND THE P.S.R. CLASSES. The 3-year-olds are in GROWING WITH GOD classes, and the high school and middle school students, even though they come on Sunday nights, have a class waiting for them on Sunday mornings. Please register as soon as possible (PSR Office 871-1431), so we can have the class rolls ready for the first day. We learn the faith first and foremost and most importantly from our parents. Secondly, the Church tries to help us in imparting the faith to the children. Catholic schools, with the spiritual atmosphere, and the P.S.R. are the Church s effort to help you help your children. If children are not in a Catholic school, it is hard to excuse them from the P.S.R. classes, unless they are out of town. The whole family can participate in the 8:30 or 11:30 a.m. Masses, and while the children are in the P.S.R. class, the parents can attend the ADULT EDUCATION programs, with food, faith, and friendships. I cannot stress enough the importance of participation with the senior youth ministry and the middle school ministry. This helps one develop social skills, and to live the faith more deeply. Try it and you will like it. The numbers are presently 50 and 30 respectively. Catholic schools have challenged public schools to become better academically and challenged the P.S.R. program to increase the quality of Catholic faith instruction. I continue to admire the work of Catechists and the teachers of our school for their hard work, preparation, and dedication. Dear parents, the most important thing you can give your children is your faith, because eternity simply does not end. We absolutely cannot take a chance with our eternal destiny. With prayers and blessings, Father Muller The Feast of the Assumption is Monday, August 15. This year it is not a Holy Day of Obligation because it falls on the day after Sunday. However, it is a great feast, and we encourage everyone to attend Mass. The Mass Schedule is: 6:30 a.m. 7:30 a.m. 9 a.m. (School Mass) 6 p.m. Mary Ann Huie, Kenneth Huie, Melanie Gilchrist, Charlie Kai Wadsworth The preparation for First Communion and Confirmation are two years apiece. For First Communion, the prep is the first and second grade. For Confirmation it is seventh and eighth grade.

Ladies Living the Word Bible Study: The Kingdom of God Are you concerned about the evil going on in the world today? How can we as Christians live in the Kingdom of God while living here on earth? This study will show us how to find these tools to live as Christians in this world and withstand the turbulent times as we have a life-changing encounter with Jesus in His Word. You are encouraged to come and invite your friends to join us in the Family Life Center every Tuesday morning from 9-11 a.m. beginning September 13. Sign-up forms are available in the vestibule, or you may contact Kathy Jackson (through August 25) at 967-3038 or Lanell Carroll (after August 25) at 967-6391.

Small Groups As Christians we must learn to live righteously in an unrighteous world. How can we do this? We can all benefit from a network of friends, but in the world today, we must have Christian friends to help us live in the Kingdom of God while living here on earth within our homes and places of work. If you are married, single, male, or female, you are urged to join a small group in our parish. Many enduring relationships have been formed as people gather to socialize and study the Word. The groups meet weekly at a time and place arranged by the group leader beginning in September. Invite your friends to join together, for as Jesus said, He came so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10) Sign-up sheets are available in the vestibule or you may contact Mary Ann Graeve at 908-2728. The Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet on Saturday, August 20, at 10 a.m. in the Family Life Center for Mass, Adoration, and prayers. Fr. Anthony Mary, MFVA, from EWTN will be leading us in prayer this month! Won t you join us and bring a friend? Our country and our world NEED our prayers! Join with us and Padre Pio himself as we pray for souls! For more information call Angela Kolar at 991-9554. PRAY, HOPE, and DON T WORRY!! Padre Pio Pray for us! All are invited to attend a Bible study on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Throughout our study of the Gospel of Matthew, Jeff Cavins (via video) will explain how Jesus life correlates to the Old Testament and how Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Our 24 week study will be divided into two parts: September November and January March. Our first meeting will be on September 8. You must register so study materials can be ordered. Go to kentgraeve@gmail.com or call 999-3474. Pray about joining us. This study will increase your knowledge of scripture, but more importantly, it will deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ.
