My life was too busy I was invited twice to go to the Catechetical Institute. The first time I wasn t ready; my life was too busy, but a seed had been planted. I was more ready when the second invitation came just over a year ago. Instead of a quick answer of no, I said I d pray about it. There was a desire to go deeper, but I didn t know how to do that alone, on my own. I asked a few questions of the and St parishioners who had already attended. They were so joyful! Each one encouraged me to go. It was evident to me that their enthusiasm was in response to the way Christ was working in them. We hear a lot about the fruit of the Spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. I recognized these gifts in them. I started at the two year CI program in September of 2016 and will graduate this May 15 th. The class format is reading assigned paragraphs in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, answering questions in our workbooks, discussing the lesson in small group and listening to a lecture. That s the process in a nutshell. (See http://www.cistudent.com/ for more details). What really happens is that you encounter God s plan of salvation for us. The plan He put in place at the moment of the fall. You discover it on your own, meet with people who are on their own journey. All kinds of people old, young, religious, converts, exploring, questioning, seeking. You make new friends. Then you listen to Priests, Deacons, Professors and Bishops share their knowledge about our Church. It is magnificent. It is changing me in a way that I never anticipated. There s fullness to my life; the love that Christ pours in to me is overflowing do you want some? There s more than enough for everyone! I don t have fancy words to describe this. I only know that Christ loves me and you and everyone. Anything we do to reach out and accept that love brings Him joy. If you re interested in hearing more about the CI, please ask me. There s fullness to my life; the love that Christ pours in to me is overflowing do you want some? Lori Kasel CALENDAR FOR ASCENSION AND ST. BERNARDS PARISHES Sun. Flynn Catechetical Institute will begin another two-year course at The Saint Paul Seminary. The program follows the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and will make sense of all things Catholic, deepen your faith, and lay out the roadmap to heaven. Classes are divided into four eleven-week modules and meet on Monday evenings, 7 to 9 pm, with two Saturday morning formative sessions per module. Applications are now being accepted through July 1, 2018, for the class beginning in September. The parish (both and St. ) will pay for half of your registration if you let us know you are registered to attend. Cemetery Regulations Now that spring has sprung we are asking that any decorations placed on graves during the winter be removed immediately. For the summer mowing season, Cemetery does not permit plantings or artificial or potted plants except Memorial Day Weekend. Decorations can be placed after noon on Thursday prior to Memorial Day and must be removed before the following weekend. Do not dig holes. Remaining decorations will be removed and placed at the end of the cemetery by the large evergreen tree. During the grass cutting season, only fresh flowers are allowed. When wilted, they will be removed. Thank You! The Respect for Life Group would like to thank everyone who supported our Respect Life Spring Luncheon on April 21 st. We appreciate everyone joining in the spirit of spring and wearing all the wonderful, awesome and unique hats. We hope everyone enjoyed it. Thanks again. Rosary at the Harbor The Respect for Life Group would like to invite anyone interested to join them for the month of May in praying the Rosary at the Harbor in NYA. They will be gathering on the third floor at 10:15 every Monday morning in May. All are welcome. Pans in the Kitchen Thank You to all the ladies who have brought bars and salads to the last several funeral lunches and other things. We are getting quite a collection of pans and bowls that have not been picked up and would appreciate if you d stop down and check if any of them belong to you. They can be found on the open shelves on the left side of the kitchen. Farmers, we need your help. Our faith formation Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is looking for about 75 wheat seeds. We are also in need of about 10 wheat stems. If you can help please contact Kara Wickenhauser - kara.wickenhauser@gmail.com or (952)250-3620 or Lisa Whitaker at 952-454-1622 or LWhitaker6@yahoo.com. Church of St. Cologne, MN Banns of Marriage: Banns of Marriage are announced for Courtney Jacques and John Scmitt. Please keep the couple in your prayers. Congratulations: Briella Jones who received her First Communion Sunday, April 29th at Guardian Angels and to Brenna Jones who will be confirmed at the Basilica on Monday, May 14th. Both have been doing their preparation at Guardian Angels with their classmates from Guardian Angels Catholic School and Holy Family Catholic High School. Ladies Lunch - Ladies it's time to lunch again! We will begin our lunch outings at Perkins Restaurant in Chaska (Jonathan) on Thursday, May 17, at 11:30 a.m. All ladies of the parish are invited. Please call Mary Beckrich at 952-466-2679 to let her know if you are planning to attend. Also let her know if you need a ride. We'll order off the menu with each person responsible for their own bill. Please help us out by bringing suggestions of the names of restaurants where you would like to eat. Remember to call Mary so we have an approximate count to give the restaurant. St. Tuition Assistance: We are pleased to support Catholic Education. Our goal is to keep active, young families as members of St. Parish. Active parishioners who are registered members of St. Church, and who do not otherwise qualify for a tuition discount or subsidy by reason of also being a member of the host school's parish, are invited to request tuition assistance for their children who are enrolled in K-12th grade in a neighboring Catholic School for the coming year. Please contact the parish office (952-466-2031) to request tuition assistance for the 2018-19 school year. Requests must be submitted by June 1, 2018. Each family must commit to being active in the life of St. Parish in an identifiable way (through discipleship, worship, social outreach, stewardship, building and grounds upkeep, and/or community building) to support our parish by giving of their time, talent, and treasure. Giving of one's time and talent means making Sunday/Saturday mass a weekly priority and volunteering in some aspect of the parish. Cemetery Decorations: Spring is finally here!! Now that the mowing season is around the corner, we are asking that all decorations placed in the cemetery during the winter be removed by May 11th. Below, please see the regulations for the St. Cemetery. No permanent plants or flowers may be planted on a lot. Decorations, including artificial flowers, potted plants, decorations, flags or other ornaments, may be placed on graves beginning at noon on the Thursday before Memorial Day and may remain there until the Sunday after Memorial Day. Decorations must be removed by this date. Decorations that are not removed will be discarded by St. s Parish. Wreaths or other evergreen displays are permitted from November 1 to March 1. No other types of decorations are permitted. No decorations are permitted other than during these times. Loose, freshly cut flowers may be placed at graves. Such flowers must not be bound together with any wire, string, or ribbon, nor placed in a vase or pot. Cut flowers will be disposed of by St. 's Parish during lawn mowing or when, in the sole discretion of St. 's, the flowers become unsightly, withered, or otherwise unattractive.
