He promises that they will be reunited and led by one who is just and wise. SECOND READING: EPHESIANS 2:13-18 Paul explains that through Jesus Christ, there is no longer hostility between Gentile and Jew. Instead, through the Spirit of Christ, both groups become one body and are equal in the eyes of God. GOSPEL: MARK 6:30-34 The apostles returned after their first mission and told Jesus what they had done and taught. He told them to rest, but the people kept coming to them. So they went to find a private place, but the people learned where they were going and arrived first. Jesus felt sorry for them and decided to teach them instead of resting. CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS B A P T I S M : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. CONFIRMATION: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. MATRIMONY: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. RITE OF CHRISTIAN IN ITIATION FOR A DULTS: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. A NOINTING OF THE SICK: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament.

3 July 22, 2018 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PASTOR S CORNER Dear Parishioners, It was a joy to meet so many of you this past weekend. I ask that you please remind me often of your names. Meeting so many people at once is a big challenge for me. I do hope we will be able to sit down together and speak one on one. In our Gospel this week, Mark 6:30-34, Jesus invites his disciples to come away from all the activity they have been doing and spend some time alone with him. That is a good message for us to hear as well. So often our lives become so busy that our prayer time falls by the wayside. Yes, we have many good things to do and they are important, yet we need to remember Jesus is to be the center of our lives. In him we will find the time to do all that is needed. If you have not done it recently please sit down with your Bible and read and pray Paul s letter to the Ephesians. We will find in this letter that through the death of Jesus we have become one in Christ and are restored to the right relationship with the Father. The Lord calls each of us whether we are near or far from him. He is the Good Shepherd who cares for all his flock. Have a blessed week, God s Peace, Fr. Mike ANNUNCIATION YOUNG ADULTS Movie Night Please join the Annunciation Young Adult Ministry as we watch and discuss Bishop Barron's series "The Mass." In this story, they are old and childless, like the Old Testament Hannah, mother of Samuel, when angels deliver the news that Anne will conceive a child. Anne was an especially popular saint in medieval England, and her feast was celebrated in the West by 1350; Joachim s feast was authorized or suppressed by various popes, but was joined with Anne s in 1969. 5 July 22, 2018 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME POPE S CORNER MASTER, HAVE MERCY ON US! I think of the ten lepers in the Gospel who were healed by Jesus. They approach him and, keeping their distance, they call out: Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! (Lk 17:13). They are sick, they need love and strength, and they are looking for someone to heal them. Jesus responds by freeing them from their disease. Strikingly, however, only one of them comes back, praising God and thanking him in a loud voice. Jesus notes this: ten asked to be healed and only one returned to praise God in a loud voice. We need to acknowledge that he is our strength, knowing how to give thanks, to give praise for everything that the Lord has done for us. Homily, October 13, 2013 Reflection: What has God done for you? Think back on your own life and the healing that God has granted you. In this time, give thanks to God and allow his past mercy to give you encouragement and faith for the future. HELP WANTED! Your assistance is needed with the following projects. If you are able to help, please contact Tina Lindberg 202-362-3323 x15 or lindberg@annunciationdc.org: Pick up and deliver Cup of Joe materials once a month from the Share Food Network, located at 3222 Hubbard Rd, Landover MD.
