Prayer Partners Needed: There are many Holy Hours with only 1 adorer. A prayer partner for these adorers would enable them to depend on each other and allow more flexibility with their schedule. ADORATION CHAPEL The Perpetual (24 hours) Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available to us at Mercy Regional Hospital Chapel. If you are interested in becoming a regularly scheduled adorer or a substitute adorer, please phone 337-363-4533 for more information. As Bishop Fulton J. Sheen called it The Hour of Power! One Sunday morning as he arrived for Mass, the deacon was met in the sacristy by the pastor. Deacon, he said sternly, I ve been told that you went to the ball game last Sunday instead of coming to Mass. SUNDAY: 18 JUNE: THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST Fr. Tom s Joke of the Week That s a lie, said the deacon, and I have the fish at home to prove it! FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ. Having meditated on the other great truths of our faith, we now look at this great mystery of Jesus giving Himself truly Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Jesus loves us so much that He wants to satisfy our hunger and thirst with His very being. This is the only Sacrament where Jesus is present physically in this way. In response we owe Him our body, blood and soul. Through baptism we are a part of His Mystical Body. We owe Him our love and our everything. St. Paul tells us to examine ourselves before receiving our Lord (1 Cor 11). Therefore if we have mortal sin on our souls we should go to confession first before receiving our Lord. We should also dress properly for Mass and truly give our attention fully to the liturgy, mind and heart. This helps us to be in true communion with our Lord Jesus. Today we start our Masses in the gym. This reminds us that Mass can be celebrated anywhere really. It has been celebrated in foxholes during war, on trains, and mountain tops. The renovation has begun in the church and we hope and pray for a speedy return to a sacred place of great beauty. Please leave the wide sidewalk in front of the high school near the outdoor Sacred Heart statue, Main Street side, clear for the handicapped. Anybody else is welcome to enter through those doors into the Commons area and then turn right towards the gym or you can enter directly through the gym doors. Confessions are still available at their regular times in the high school chapel. Today is also Father s Day. Don t fathers do as Jesus did as they give their body, blood and soul to their family? A communion of love is thus engendered. Thanks to all of our fathers, past and present, who have acted like Jesus. May they all be rewarded for their great sacrifices. Speaking of men, the Man 2 Man Conference will be held on August 19th at Fatima Church in Lafayette. Hope all men can attend. Thanks to all who helped to clear out the church after the 5:00pm Mass on Sunday and after the 6:30am Mass on Monday. Clarence Rivers also thanks you! It was great to see so many people lending a hand and it just goes to show you what great parishioners we have here in Ville Platte! Thanks to all who have contributed to our Centennial Capital Campaign. Sacred Heart, Belaire Cove and St. Joseph have all passed their goal. Thanks to all who have contributed whatever amount. Working together we have accomplished a great feat. A gentle reminder to make your checks out only to Centennial Campaign. You can send them directly to the Diocese with your particular code number and our parish code (Sacred Heart- 589 and Belaire Cove- 590). The Diocese address is 1408 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70502. Seminarian Ben Pitre will be joining us this week for about a month and a half. He is from St. Landry Church in Opelousas, and is studying in Rome at the North American College. He ll be helping out in the office and in liturgies. Please welcome him when you see him. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies
