Peter Jankowski From: Peter Jankowski <pjankowski@yahoo.com> Sent: Thursday, December 15, 2016 9:54 AM To: Peter Jankowski Subject: St. Patrick's News & Notes - December 15, 2016 (Group #3) Attachments: Parish Projects in Development.pdf ST. PATRICK S NEWS & NOTES DECEMBER 15, 2016 Dear Friends of the Mailing List: SAY HELLO TO HANNAH. Last week, I received a call from a BASSET RESCUE organization in Dwight, IL (the home of the Basset Waddle ), asking if I would consider taking one of the PEORIA PUPPIES that were not wanted by their owner. Traveling with Jim Smith to Esmond, IL (north of DeKalb), we were confronted by a hoard of aggressive puppies that were more interested in playing with others than the adults in the house. There was one basset sitting off to the side who was a bit neglected, a bit malnourished, who took a liking to Jim and me and that pretty much sold us. Hannah is a little shy but very affectionate. I think she ll do very well (and get very spoiled) by the folks at the parish. As Deacon Paul and I continue our journey through the city visiting our homebound and such, I also had a chance to record an AUDIO CHRISTMAS MESSAGE that we will be sending via phone to all our parishioners next week. You can check out the message at this link: http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/media/1/parish%20life/2016%20christmas%20phone %20Invite.mp3. Note that this year, we will have a very short 3:00 Mass to accommodate those families traveling in the area, followed by a 4:30 traditional Mass. We will have a 9:30 Christmas Concert (the gang is working very diligently on a nice program) followed by the 10:00 Mass. Christmas Masses will take place at the normal Sunday times 8:00 & 10:00 in English and 12:00 noon in Spanish. Especially with a poor parish like ours, we will need to take a second collection to accommodate both 1
Christmas and the Sunday Mass. We really need your help with this so please be as generous as you can!!! (You can also use our Online Giving link at the website by clicking here: http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/media/1/online-giving.png). Also, I have just loaded all the OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE PICS online at the website, which you can check out at the link below. Over 500 folks passed through our church for the event (just above our capacity!) and between that, my all-day confessions on December 11 th (who is crazy enough to come through a storm to have their confessions heard YOU ARE!!!) and everything else, it made for a very busy couple of days and this is the kind of busy and hectic that I really like!!! http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/gallery/2016-guadalupe I m going to have to do a couple difficult things before Christmas on behalf of the parish, so say a quick prayer that what I have to will go well!!! As I stated last week, St. Patrick Church will sponsor a LAS POSADAS CELEBRATION on December 18 th in the Church, starting at 6:00 p.m. Children dressed as Mary and Joseph will process from inn (or posada) to inn, seeking a home for the baby Jesus. The evening will conclude with pan dulce, Mexican hot chocolate and piñatas. For more information, please contact the parish office at (815) 727-4746. In addition to the bathroom fundraiser below, I have attached a flyer from our Christmas bulletin, discussing the upcoming projects we need to address at the parish, in the event you are able to help with any or all of these. That said We are still working on our Handicap Bathroom Project, which will be posted in the December 11 th bulletin. Here again is the note 2
On sale at the office is the book of homilies I just published, entitled, STORIES ON THE JOURNEY: A HOMILETIC BIOGRAPHY, published by Christian Lighthouse publishing. The cost of the book is $12 and all the proceeds go to the parish this is one of my contributions towards doing my part in the ministry. You can also purchase them on Amazon.com at the following link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1532765835/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?qid=1462580446 &sr=8-10&pi=ac_sx236_sy340_ql65&keywords=peter+jankowski Rather than attaching the Bulletins, Homilies and Newsletters as I have done in the past, I think it best to just send them as links from our www.stpatsjoliet.com website so that the files I am sending out are not so large. This way, those with limited sized inboxes will not have a problem getting these communications. Thanks for understanding! 3
Here is the bulletin for December 17-18, 2016 http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/_modules/document.php?action=downloaddocument& fid=615 To access all the bulletins, you can go to http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/documents/collection/bulletin I am typing last week s homily later this week (go figure!) but you can access all the homilies by clicking on the following link: http://www.stpatsjoliet.com/documents/collection/fr-pete-s-homilies. Have a blessed week! God Bless, Rev. Peter G. Jankowski Pastor, St. Patrick s Church Gloria Dei Vivens Homo (The Glory of God is living in Man) St. Irenaeus of Lyons PULPIT ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. You can pick up your OPLATKI CHRISTMAS WAFERS in the Sacristy for those who participate in this Eastern European tradition. 2. This is the last weekend for our COAT & TOY DRIVE FOR EL CENTRO VILASECA DAYCARE CENTER. Thanks to all who have participated in this collection. 3. Jim Smith is looking for VOLUNTEERS TO DECORATE THE CHURCH & CHAPEL on December 18 th following the 12:00 p.m. Mass. Scott Lockwood will be cooking chili (let me tell you that is some AWESOME chili!!!!) for everyone and if anyone would like to bring a dish to pass that would be great to but not required. We need about 15-20 people (or more is always good and are kids welcome to join too). If I get that many or more it will take just about 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete. Even if they can't spend that much time even a little bit of their time will be helpful. This is always a very fun event and everyone always has a good time, and they'll have a part in make our church look more beautiful than any other church in the area! 4. In addition to the decorating, we are looking for 4-5 Hispanic women who would be willing to come in and do the poinsettias (same time 1:30 Sunday the 20 th ). 4
They really need a woman's touch (and someone who will take time to make them look nice and not rush it). 5. Our LAS POSADAS CELEBRATION takes place on December 18 th. Please check the bulletin for more information. 6. Also, we are looking for some Hispanic women that could help clean the church and pews on Monday the 19 th. Sometime during the day. Jim Smith will provide all the cleaning supplies. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICK: Fr. Tim Andrés, Fr.
