Safe & Sacred Music Ministry Safe and Sacred is the child protection program for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The training program is completely conducted online and includes processing of a background check and Code of Conduct. The purpose of the Safe and Sacred program is to provide easier access to child protection training for clergy, employees, and volunteers. It allows us to broaden the focus of the training to increase awareness of all forms of child abuse. Safe and Sacred includes an assessment that must be taken and passed to ensure that training content is learned and can be applied. Who is Required to Sign Up for this Program? Safe and Sacred Training is a requirement for all volunteers regardless of their ministry area. If you are 18 years of age or older and you volunteer in any ministries here at St. Mark, you must comply with all the requirements prior to volunteering. To access the Safe and Sacred site, go to our website, stmarkindy.org. Please contact the Parish Center at 787-8246 if you have any questions. Liturgical Ministry For those Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Altar Servers, and members of Hospitality and Welcome Desk who were unable to attend the previous training, an additional date has been scheduled for Thursday, September 6th at 7:00pm in Msgr. Schafer Hall. We will be training on the new software that will be used in the future to schedule your Ministry participation dates. For more information and to register for this training class, please contact Donna Kern, dkern@stmarkindy.org FALL CHOIR SEASON BEGINS!!! The following is information about just a few of our St. Mark choirs and music ministry opportunities. All rehearsals are in the Church. For more information about all of our choirs, including the funeral choir and men s choir, please contact Andrew Eagan at aeagan@stmarkindy.org. St. Mark Children s Choir: All St. Mark children grades 5 th through 8 th are invited to sing in our Children s Choir. This is for kids both from our St. Mark School and all area schools. We would love to see this choir continue to grow in numbers. The Children s Choir sings everything from Panis Angelicus and Ave Maria to more contemporary songs like Good Good Father. Rehearsals this fall are on Thursdays from 4:00pm to 4:45pm; the next rehearsal is Thursday, September 6th. St. Mark Youth Choir: This choir is for all high school age kids and musicians. The youth are encouraged to suggest the music, and the high school musicians have an opportunity to share their talent. There will be no regular evening rehearsals; we will rehearse 45 minutes prior to Mass. Please contact Julie Albertson, jalbertson@stmarkindy.org for more information. St. Mark Adult Choir: This choir is one of the largest adult choirs in the city of Indianapolis. All adults are invited to join this group in song and prayer. We would love to see more young adults. If you always wondered about singing in the choir, come give us a try. You will have the opportunity to sing awesome music and to be part of a group of wonderful friends. Rehearsals are Thursdays at 7:30pm. Please come Thursday, September 6th. All are Welcome! Parish Center Closed In observance of Labor Day, the Parish Center will be closed Monday, September 3rd. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am.

School St. Vincent de Paul DO YOU WANT TO RECEIVE 50% OF YOUR DONATION TO SAINT MARK BACK TO YOU? The word is out. The competition has increased. More people are donating to the Indiana State Tax Credit Scholarship Program and taking advantage of this unique tax opportunity. Your gift to St. Mark Catholic School, through the Institute of Quality Education (IQE), will help our students afford a high quality, Catholic education. IQE began accepting donations for tax credit scholarships on July 1, 2018. The cap for the 2018-2019 fiscal year is $12.5 million, but these credits are expected to run out early. Don't be left at the starting line! Donate early to take advantage of the 50% state tax credit opportunity. This program is a win-win for donors and our St. Mark Catholic School students. Please contact Steve Helmich, Team Leader (stevehelmich50@gmail.com) or Rusty Albertson, Principal, (ralbertson@stmarkindy.org) for more information. You can also donate online at http://www.i4ged.org/sgo/donors. Make sure you designate St. Mark Catholic School for your donation! Please Pray For... This year our annual Blanket Sunday collection is getting a new date and focus. The weekend of September 29th and 30th, we will be collecting blankets, towels and bed linens after all Masses. Thursday, September 27th, is both the birthday and feast day of St. Vincent DePaul, so the closest weekend provides an excellent opportunity to thank each of you for supporting our ongoing activities. You'll hear more about this in the coming weeks. Last week we visited the SVDP Distribution Center and learned that the most urgently needed items are new and gently used towels and washcloths...twin/twin XL and full/queen blankets and bed linens. The client referral desk manager told us that the need for all of these items continues to outpace available stock. The other thing we are interested in is sleeping bags that are still in pretty good shape. I bet there are plenty lurking in hall closets and garage shelves. New Parishioners to our Parish Family Mike Schwartz, Karen Duncan, Harry Slick, Mary Fortress, Sherry Brett, Carolyn Walters, Karen Firkins, Sherrie Blomberg, Lisa Engelking, Kris Feldhake, Linda and Jerry Gaydos, Pat Henn, Joe Pierle, Shirley Martin, Hunter Moore, Betty Mouser, Joanne Burkert, Debbie O Neal, Rosemary Delph, Katie Leach, Bill Mahlman, Pat Taylor, and Chris Williams. MILITARY: Please pray for our women and men in the Armed Forces and their families To add a name to our Prayer List, please contact Chris Johnson, cjohnson@stmarkindy.org. Gayla Aspromonte Brian and Sharon Toepp SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Sacraments Veronica Eddy and Edgar Ojeda were joined in the Sacrament of Marriage on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Our parish community joins family and friends in congratulating and asking God s blessing upon their lives together.

Parish Life RCIA JOIN THE FUN COMMITTEE Wednesday, August 29th, 7:30pm in the Cenacle. Help plan the best night of the year - the St. Mark Dinner Dance! The Dinner Dance committee is looking for fresh faces that want to have FUN! The committee meets 4-6 times per year and has opportunities for everyone. If you have been looking for an easy way to get involved at St. Mark, this is it. Join us on August 29th to see if this is the committee for you! ST. MARK CARD PARTY: The September 27th Card Party is CANCELLED. We again want to attend the Ave Maria Guild Card Party at The Hermitage, which is on the same date. The funds raised support the residents there who are cared for by the Sisters of St. Benedict. The cost is $10 which includes your lunch. There are nice raffle items and door prizes too! Thanks for your understanding and we will see you at St. Mark s next Card Party on October 25th. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are seeking volunteers to collate, photocopy, stuff envelopes, etc. on an as needed basis. It is our intention to establish a call list of those volunteers to be contacted when needed. Your time commitment would be established by you. If you anticipate some free time or are a high school student seeking community service hours, please contact Alison Archer, at (317) 787-8246 to be added to our list. Thank you for offering to share your time and talent for this Parish Office endeavor. ST. MARK PRAYER CHAIN: The Prayer Chain focuses mostly on the Health and Wellness of our St. Mark Family members and friends. Please leave Wilma Cross a brief message for whom the prays are, and what hospital they are in or illness. Wilma Cross, 317 7831512 or stmarkprayerchain@stmarkindy.org. Blessings to all; with this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord s people. INCLUSION MINISTRY: For a person with a disability, it s just one characteristic of the much greater whole of who they are as individuals. They are after the same things as everyone else; finding meaning, having choices, and being valued by their family, community and colleagues, and the pursuit of whatever in the world they are interested in and enjoy. RCIA INQUIRY SESSION BEGINS IN TWO WEEKS In celebrating this month of Our Lady s final journey to God in her Glorious Assumption, let us ask her motherly intercession to draw souls to the Sacred Heart of her Son. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey too - a conversion to God and what he intends for us. RCIA is the process by which persons who were never baptized or were baptized in another Christian tradition become members of the Catholic Church, a people of pilgrimage to our Heavenly Father. Our first Inquiry Session is Wednesday, September 5th at 7:00pm in the Church. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, this session is for you. All are welcome, including Catholics who would like to learn more about the great Mysteries of our Faith. For more information or questions contact the Parish Center; 317-787-7246 or Deacon Paul at deaconpaul@stmarkindy.org or Angi Swiezy at swiezy@stmarkindy.org. All proceeds will benefit St. Paul Hermitage.. KAIROS is a Greek word meaning in God s Special Time or In the Fullness of Time. It is a special time for 24 men incarcerated in the Edinburgh Correctional Facility to spend four days with 28 Kairos volunteers, men from different religious denominations, all focused on creating an atmosphere where the love of God is visible and present. This weekend, in the narthex of our Church, the Kairos Prison Ministry will have a table set up providing opportunities for you to support and be joined with the men going into the Edinburgh Correctional Facility on the weekend of September 13 th through the 16 th, 2018. The table will have sign-up sheets for a Prayer Vigil that begins on the 13 th at 4:00 pm and continues until the 16 th at 3:30 pm. These are 30-minute prayer times and you can sign up for as many as you want. If you are unable to sign up at the Church, you can sign up online at this website: http://bit.ly/prisonkairos7. We need people to bake cookies and the recipe will be available at the table. Cookies can be brought in to the Church next week (September 1 st and 2 nd ) or dropped off at the Parish Center during office hours. We will need all cookies by September 9th, so they can be prepared for transport to the prison. St Mark s community has been very supportive of this Kairos ministry this weekend four men from the Parish will be on the team. Please keep all in your prayers.
