A Tribute to Asbury United Methodist Women Throughout the month of March, you will hear tributes to United Methodist Women who have left a memorable impression in their family s life and in their community. March 12 ~ Garnet Hammond March 19 ~ Robert Reid March 26 ~ Albert Dickson A TRIBUTE FROM GARNET W. HAMMOND Lois Brown Hammond was born July 15, 1927 in Washington, D.C. She was educated in the D.C. public schools, graduated from Cardozo High School and attended Miner Teachers College. I was introduced to Lois by a mutual friend on Mother's Day in 1951. It was "love at first sight" and we were married on June 7, 1952. This union produced four daughters (Denise, Patrice, Annette, Kathleen) and one son (David) who regularly attended Asbury. Lois was a faithful United Methodist Woman who loved life, God, her family and church. She enjoyed singing in two choirs, traveling and family get togethers. As a civilian employee, she started her career with the D.C. Government, then the Air Force and later transferred to the Drug Enforcement Administration where she stayed until retiring. During this time she was also a Sunday school teacher at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Capitol Hill. Lois and I enjoyed 44 glorious years of marriage before she was called to her eternal home on September 15, 1996. Ebenezer was scheduled to honor her 60 years of faithful service on that day. Her spirit is ever present and lives on in her growing family that includes seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren with one on the way; and three great great grandchildren. We will always love her, and she is greatly missed.
