April 3, 2016-2nd Sunday of Easter St. Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois

St. Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois page 2 From Father Joe Pride is one of the capital sins, and we are well aware that our pride can get us into a great deal of trouble. But isn t there a good dimension to pride. Is it wrong for a father to be proud of his daughter if she pitches an outstanding game, or is it wrong for a mother to be proud of her son who catches a fly ball deep in center field and prevents the offense from scoring a couple of runs? The mission office for the diocese sent us a summary of the donations from the people of St. Francis Parish. These would be the second collections or special envelopes you see during the year. During 2015 the parishioners of St. Francis have contributed a total of $23,210.56! That is a Wow Moment! No other parish in the deanery comes close to this. At a staff meeting we decided to have only one collection instead of sending the basket around for a second collection. I am curious to see how this will impact our contributions to the special causes. May God bless your generosity to all of these good causes. Before we pat ourselves on the back too hard, out of the 22 parishes in our deanery 11 of them had a higher percentage of contribution per family! Ours is $19.46. The highest is St. Charles Parish in Charleston with an average contribution per family of $35.23. From Father Ed THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! What a great celebration of Lent and Holy Week we have had! I just want to say THANKS to all of you for the many hours of work that you did, and still do, to glorify God. And that we do here at St. Francis Give Glory to God in the Highest! And now let s have a 50-day festival of Easter, celebrating Jesus resurrected presence among us. Whenever anyone asks me how was my Easter, I immediately respond by saying, I don t know; it just got started! Speaking of Easter, if you haven t seen it yet, go on YouTube and put in the words That tomb is still empty to see a delightful video which perfectly describes Holy Week. It takes about 3 minutes and it is awesome! Check it out. ATTENTION YOUNG ADULTS (20-40-ish)!! We are having POTLUCK today (Sunday) from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Please come and share your food (even the leftovers are good around T-Town!) and also your stories of Easter. All are welcome in this place! Happy Easter, STILL!! FrEd Year of Mercy & Care of Our Common Home (Laudato Si) We cannot hide. No out-ofthe-way room, no locked door keeps the Risen Christ away from us. He finds the way to us day after day. We recognize him, both in his repeated Easter greeting (Peace be with you) and in his badges beyond death (resurrected wounds in hands and side). We recognize him in bread and wine transformed. We recognize him in those who gather with us---those near, those across the room and those in between. Jesus is seen on Sunday. And we are seen by him, with him, in him. Like doubting-to-believing Thomas, we put our fingers and hands on him. And like the disciples, he breathes on us mercy and forgiveness. Who needs mercy and forgiveness this week? Who needs my merciful forgiveness? Perhaps it is someone I love. Perhaps it is someone I don t. RCIA We congratulate and celebrate the three newest members of our faith community: Britany McKibben (St. Francis) Dalton Hinterscher (St. Rose) and Kevin Debolt (St. Isidore). As they begin their transition into their respective faith communities, we welcome anyone new to our gatherings. We currently have three persons seeking information on the Catholic Church, so we continue our sessions with the topic, The new evangelization. April 3, 2016 2nd Sunday of Easter page 5 Reflection for the Second Sunday of Easter Have Mercy on Us Once I was dead, but now I am alive...revelation 1:18 One of the most attractive attributes of God in our time is mercy. Pope Francis is a great apostle of mercy and has thus captured the imagination of people around the world. We recognize that this world is marred and that we, too, are flawed. At some deep level, we sense the need for Divine Mercy. St. Faustina, a Polish nun and mystic, claimed that God asked her to promote a devotion to the Divine Mercy. This devotion spread and is particularly recognized today on this Divine Mercy Sunday. In the face of so much violence and brokenness in the world, we can feel overwhelmed and helpless. May we not give in to despair, but rather pray to our merciful God who can save us (and who already has). Let us recite often St. Faustina s prayer in the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy: For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. LIVING FAITH Msgr. Stephen J.
