Rest assured that there is not even one forgotten soul in purgatory. Jesus, the merciful Savior, does not forget anybody in His eternal love. Nor does Mary, whose help at the hour of death is sought every time we recite the Hail Mary. Listen to the prayer at Mass when the Church ask God to remember all who have died in your mercy. People might forget but God s love never does. That is all that matters. SVdP Annual Appeal Today you will be hearing from St. Vincent de Paul Society members about their growing needs. The SVdP has been helping the poor residing in our Parish s boundaries for over 15 years. Each month, over 1400 people are helped with food and another 200 calls come in seeking rent, utility or other financial assistance. Your generous contributions help SVdP continue to reach out to those in need. Contributions of food, money and time are always welcome. Please call 481-6352 for more information on how you can help. Next weekend, November 10th and 11th, there will be a special collection for the SVdP Annual Appeal. Any gift will be greatly appreciated! Promoting Vocations Please join us in welcoming Fr. Francisco Hernandez and Sister Lisa on the weekend of November 17th and 18th. Fr. Hernandez will be celebrate some of the Masses that weekend and promote vocations. FINANCIAL SUPPORT Offertory Collection for Oct. 27 & 28, 2012: $12,702.58. Pastors often miss seeing money biblically as a discipleship issue rather than a financial issue. As one Pastor stated, Biblical teaching about money should focus on what we can do for you rather than what we can get from you. Parishes frequently associate a stewardship ministry with helping those who are hurting financially or have become overwhelmed with debt or charity. We should be seeking to help those people, absolutely, but that should not be the main focus of a stewardship ministry. We are all called to be stewards, and building a ministry around people in financial trouble could actually hurt the stewardship effort, since those doing well financially will assume they are exempt from learning to live as stewards.

The Wisdom of the Church As Flannery O'Connor observed in a letter to a non-believing friend, dated December 9, 1958: To have the Church be what you want it to be would require the continuous miraculous meddling of God in human affairs, whereas it is our dignity that we are allowed more or less to get on with those graces that come through faith and the sacraments and which work through our human nature. God has chosen to operate in this manner. We can't understand this but we can't reject it without rejecting life. The main reason we can't reject the Church without rejecting life is, again and always, the Eucharist. What distinguishes the Catholic Church utterly, finally, infinitely from any other church is that Christ left it as the repository of his Body and Blood - the Sacrament of Sacraments - pulsing, dynamic, eternal source of the power that created and rules over the universe, to nourish and connect us until the end of time. Without the Body and Blood of Christ - ground of all truth, justice, beauty, intelligence, knowledge, order, mystery - we wither and die. Without his ongoing, creative, ever-alive and eternal love for us - and ours for him - there is no order, no hope, no peace, no light, no life or possibility of life, no reason to go on. - Fr. Michael F. Kiernan PERT Club Our People Enjoying Retirement Together (PERT) Club will meet on Tuesday, November 13th beginning at 11:00am in St. John s Hall. We will have a short business meeting, stories, some humor, prayer intentions and a drawing for cash prizes. A Thanksgiving luncheon will be served at Noon featuring a 30lb turkey, dressing and gravy from Sam s Hof Brau. Please bring the dish you signed up for or another succulent side dish, your own place setting and a table decoration. BINGO will follow at 1:00pm. The luncheon costs $1.00 for members and $3.00 for guests. Please call Vivian (481-0569) or George (483-7194) with questions.
