It s BIBLE STUDY Time! The final Session of The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation study begins this Fall. This study has an Introduction and 23 chapters that began last fall. Bible study begins Thursday, September 29th, and the final chapters will be covered. We know the flood affected many parishioners. Those who are returning please sign the clip board in the main vestibule or call the parish office. Let us know if you lost your book in the flood. Thank you! We thank you for being apart of this opportunity to grow in the knowledge of your faith and deepen your covenantal relationship with our awesome God of Mercy during this year of Mercy. Voluntary workers are "among the most precious things the Church has" who express the "most noble desires of the human heart, making a suffering person feel loved," Pope Francis said September 3, at an audience in St. Peter's Square to mark the Jubilee of Volunteer Workers. "Your presence is the hand of Christ held out to all, and reaching all," the Pope said at Saturday's audience, the latest event in the Holy Year of Mercy. During his catechesis, the Pope stressed how the Church is called to be close to those in need and encouraged volunteers in their solidarity towards others, especially in a world tempted by indifference. The Holy Father concluded by citing the example of mercy shown by Blessed Mother Teresa, whom he canonized on Sunday, September 4th at the Vatican. Father Rubin and the staff would like to appreciate all the parishioners who stepped up in this time of great need to volunteer. Whether it was your time, talent, or treasure...most importantly it was a work of MERCY! Lord hear our prayers for those still in need. Amen. Regina Caeli: Still Open for Fall Admissions! Today s Readings First Reading The Lord never forgets the sins of those who take advantage of the poor (Amos 8:4-7). Psalm Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor (Psalm 113). Second Reading Pray to the Lord, who wants everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-8). Gospel Be trustworthy in all things. Serve God, the only master, not mammon (Luke 16:1-13 [10-13]). OUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS The Second Vatican Council has called us to envision the Church as the people of God. As a community of believers we are responsible for our brothers and sisters, their salvation, their journey of faith, their physical well-being. Many of the documents of Vatican II and volumes of work since the mid-1960s give us advice, guidelines, and encouragement to take care of one another: the poor, the elderly, the unborn, the broken, the infirm. Because Vatican II is part of our recent history indeed many of us were already born this may strike us as a new and revolutionary idea. But today s readings show us the agelessness of the issue of social justice. Eight hundred years before Christ was born, Amos warned the wealthy not to cheat the poor. In Paul s first letter to Timothy, he encourages all prayers to be for all people; and finally, the Gospel urges the wise use of money. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
