Page 2 READINGS FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 3, 2018 THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (Corpus Christi) First Reading: Exodus 24:3-8 Second Reading: Hebrews 9:11-15 Gospel: Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 FOCUS: We cannot afford to take the gift of Eucharist for granted. There are many reasons people give for no longer going to church. There is one great reason to attend. It is here as a community of believers we receive the most precious and sacred of all gifts from our God this side of heaven. It is here we receive the most sacred gift of Jesus in the Eucharist. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In our reading from Exodus, Moses and the people commit to the Lord and his covenant. In Hebrews, the author uses the image of a mediator in describing Jesus role in the new covenant we have with the Father. The Gospel recalls the first Eucharistic meal. Readings for next week, June 10, Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Genesis 3:9-15; Corinthians 4:13-5:1; Mark 3:20-35 From Liturgical Commission Publishing, Lansing, MI FOSTERING STEWARDSHIP AS A WAY OF LIFE PARISH SACRIFICIAL GIVING The Bishops stewardship pastoral asks, And what do Christians bring to the Eucharistic celebration and join there with Jesus offering? The answer: Their lives as Christian disciples; their personal vocations and the stewardship they have exercised regarding them. Page 7 CORPUS CHRISTI JESUS, we are your body, we are your blood, broken bread, spilled wine, fashioned like you, fashioned like Adam and Eve, formed from common clay, formed in the womb of Mother Earth. Jesus, we are your body, we are your blood, broken bread, spilled wine; people love you, people reverence you, people feel awe and silence and joy when receiving you in holy communion. Jesus, we are your body, we are your blood, broken bread, spilled wine, fashioned and formed like you. If only we, New Adams, New Eves, could only be in communion with each other, if only we could have that same reference, that same joy, that same communion with each other. -- Andrew Costello
