St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Four Sunday, September 2, 2018 A WORD FROM THE PASTOR Our parish school opens this coming Tuesday, the day after Labor Day. Please pray for the students, faculty, and staff. As you know, we have a new principal, Mrs. Diane Salamon, who has been working wholeheartedly and tirelessly this summer to prepare for this coming year. We are very blessed here many parishes, especially within the core of cities, no longer have schools. Our school continues to grow stronger as a vibrant, creative, caring community, open to all centered in our Catholic Christian faith as a solid foundation. The school is an integral part of our parish mission which states: We are a welcoming Catholic community, called together by Jesus Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit to live and share the love of God in our parish and in our daily lives. On this Labor Day weekend, we are mindful that whatever work each of us does paid employment, homemaking, student, volunteer we are called by our Lord to recognize what we do as an essential way to live and share our faith. Please review the website www.livingfaithatwork.org, which I developed with others, as a resource to help Catholics and other Christians better integrate our faith in our workplaces. This website contains information, individual activities, spiritual practices, and small group experiences offering practical ways to live as Catholic Christians 24/7 in every aspect of our lives. On behalf of Fr. Norm and the parish staff, we wish you blessings this Labor Day weekend. The office will be closed Monday. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION - PSR Did you know P.S.R. serves Pre-K 8th grade? If your child is not attending a Catholic school, please take advantage of this wonderful program. P.S.R. Registration will be Sunday, September 9th in the P.S.R. Office between 9:30-11am. Please plan on registering. Extra registration forms and information are available in the back of the church. If this presents a problem, please contact Ellen Dies at 330-864-5484 or 330-535-3135 X 101. WHY DO CATHOLICS DO THAT? Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic Church? Perhaps you ve been thinking of becoming a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish or perhaps you are just curious about what Catholics believe. Please join us for coffee and a treat on Sunday, September 9th at 9:45 A.M. in the Family Center, or Monday, September 10th at 7 P.M. in the rectory for a 45- minute question-and-answer session. All are welcome. If you d like more information, e-mail Ellen at ellen@stvincentchurch.com. Every day, more than 3,000 children are killed in our country through abortion, and most of their bodies are discarded with medical waste. Please join Right to Life of Northeast Ohio on Saturday, September 8th as we observe the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children at 1 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Participants include Fr. Norm Douglas, St. Vincent s Akron, Rev. Daren Brake from The House of the Lord, and Ohio representative Kristina Roegner. Visit our website at www.rtlofneo.com for more information and a printable map. HOW MARRIED LOVE IMAGES THE TRINITY Natural Family Planning "Free, total, faithful, fruitful. St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Five Sunday, September 2, 2018 FAMILY PERSPECTIVES Today Jesus teaches us what really matters are the intentions of our hearts. Bad intentions lead to angry outbursts with name calling and put downs. These are violent acts that defile our relationships. No one wins; everyone loses. Examine your heart and open it to God s love and grace. COMPANIONS ON A JOURNEY Grief is a normal and natural reaction upon the death of a loved one. It can begin a journey that we did not choose to take but, when shared with others, can often help us heal and grow. St. Hilary s Parish, 2750 West Market Street, is happy to offer the Companions on a Journey: Support during Grief and Loss series Thursdays at 6:30 8:30pm in the Spiritual Center Lower Level Meeting Rooms on Sept.13 th ; Sept. 20 th ; Sept. 27 th ; Oct. 4 th ; Oct. 11 th ; Oct. 18 th ; Oct. 25 th ; and Nov. 1 st. And apart from its supplicatory power, the family rosary can have very far-reaching effects, for if the habit of this pious practice is inculcated into children at a young and impressionable age, they too will be faithful to the rosary in later years, and their faith will thereby be nourished and strengthened. "We put great confidence in the holy rosary for the healing of evils which afflict our times. Not with force, not with arms, not with human power, but with Divine help obtained through the means of this prayer, strong like David with his sling, the Church undaunted shall be able to confront the infernal enemy." "O sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the rosary more faithfully.
