September is only six weeks away; things then really pick up as we begin the new year. Not only do the kids come back to school, but parish groups and organizations also enjoy a fresh start. One of the most important activities around here is our RCIA program. Do you know anyone who would like to learn more about the Catholic Church? Do you know anyone who has expressed an interest in joining the Catholic Faith? If so, RCIA is the way to go. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. RCIA in for those unbaptized, those baptized in another Christian Faith, or for those baptized Catholic but have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. RCIA meets weekly, beginning in September. Each session focuses on an aspect of the Catholic Faith. Our pastoral staff and a dedicated team of parishioners coordinate the process. RCIA concludes on Holy Saturday with baptism and admission to the faith. Please share this information about St Charles RCIA with those you think might be interested. Those who join the RCIA process each year are drawn from non-catholics who have been married to a Catholic spouse, those non-catholics engaged to a Catholic, or family and friends of Catholics. No final commitment is requested at this time. If interested, or for more information, please leave your name, phone number and e-mail address at the Parish Office (440-884-3030). Carnival 2018 proceeds will fund three projects: concrete for the Charles Avenue parking lot/playground, replace our ten-year old parish van, and complete the servers sacristy renovation. The parking lot/playground project is scheduled to begin this Wednesday, July 18. The existing asphalt surface will be removed. We will bury some conduit for possible future needs, and then the entire surface will be covered with concrete. The low bidder came in at $162,000 and was awarded the contract. That was about $50,000 under the highest bid. Thanks to St Charles Finance Council member/grant writer John Kedzior, who acquired a direct grant of $76,000 toward the total cost. Carnival 2018 will pay the balance. Allowing for weather and other contingencies, we have been told that the project will take about four weeks to complete. So please be advised those who regularly use the Charles Avenue parking lot.
