Brother Juan Tavarez and his crew put together a great party. Even though the weather was not the best we had a good turnout. The band was big hit especially with the Senior Knights. The younger members of the Knights Family enjoyed S mores and the Piñata. We are 27 days from the beginning of the Season of Lent. In the February edition of Magnificat I read an essay that explains that the word Lent comes from a Germanic word for springtime. Ash Wednesday is on 18 February this year beginning the 40 Days of Lent. On the weekend of 7/8 February the Pro-Life Committee will be holding sign-ups for the 40 Days Prayer Campaign. This campaign only asks us to give one hour a week to pray at Planned Parenthood. I ve done it for several years with my wife. It can be a powerful experience. We have seen men, women and children from many faiths come and pray for women who are going through a trying time. I have seen women accept help from Sidewalk Counselors and see attitude change on the sidewalk. Find the time to give one hour during this Lent. Every one of us prepares for Easter in different ways. Many of us grew up in the time when we were encouraged to give up something for Lent chocolate, sweets, soft drinks. Lately I have read many essays from priests, religious, and lay people that encourage us to read more about the life of Christ during Lent. Lent climaxes with Holy Week. On Holy Thursday we remember Jesus s gift of the Eucharist to us. Good Friday brings to us the ultimate sacrifice he made for us. Then on Holy Saturday we welcome new members into the Church as we remember our Lord s Resurrection. During this Lent the Council will not be hosting its traditional Friday Meal before Stations of the Cross and Mass. After consulting with Father Pat, he decided that the current state of Johnson Hall would not accommodate our efforts. We will hold our Easter Egg Hunt for the kids. Stay tuned to the email broadcasts for details as we draw closer to Easter. Vivat Jesus! Jim Luhrman

Volume 16 Issue 02 Page 3 The Next 4th Degree Exemplification will be March 21, 2015 Saint Elizabeth of Hungary in Pflugerville There will be an Admission Committee for the Bishop Reicher Assembly in Early March, all candidates must attend. All Interested 3rd Degree Knights can Email Greg for Additional Information gnelson8156@earthlink.net Knight and Family of the Month Knight Juan Tavarez The January 2015 Knight of the Month for Council 8156 is Juan Tavarez. Last fall he volunteered to chair the Council Christmas. This turned out to be a bigger challenge than last year s end of year banquet. He expected to hold it at the VFW like 2013. He picked a date and then found out another group had reserved the VFW Hall. Other options were explored but they were more expensive. His solution was to hold the party on January 10, 2015. Under pressure from the Grand Knight it was called an Epiphany Party since it was held 4 days after the Epiphany Party. He organized the party which satisfied everyone who attended. Brother Juan Tavarez and his crew put together a great party. The party s Mexican theme was supported by the dinner - tamales, attendees brought their favorite Mexican side dish. Brother Juan organized Mexican desserts. Even though the weather was not the best we had a good turnout. Partygoers were greeted with an inflatable Nativity Scene, as we journeyed as the Wise Men did many years ago. The younger members of the Knights Family enjoyed S mores and the Piñata. The band was big hit especially with the Senior Knights. For his efforts Juan has demonstrated the Knight s motto, Service to one, Service to all Juan Tavarez is Council 8156 s Knight of the Month. Family Bill & Sue Roberts Billy J and Sue Roberts are the Family of the Month for January 2015 for Council 8156. A member of the Council since December, 2009 Bill can be found at just about every Council activity. He is especially active with the Council s monthly BBQ, both cooking and selling. He admits that Sue is his favorite BBQ customer. He is also an active member of Assembly 1099, where he serves as the Faithful Purser. Sue is a member of the Council Auxiliary. She supports St. Catherine s Funeral Ministry with meals. She also belongs to the Crafty Ladies, contributing to their fundraisers on a regular basis. Their commitment as a Knight Family has gained them recognition as Council 8156 s Family of the Month for January.

Page 4 Knightly News Pro-Life Ed Empero (Dedicated to the memory of Eddie Kruczek a pro-life advocate) Margaret Sanger & Adolf Hitler. Brothers-Last month (Jan 2015)-I wrote about Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. This month I am writing about Adolf Hitler, who took some of Margaret Sanger s writings and put them into action. He implemented her writings into action on his own German people, that were mentally and physically disabled. He then carried his insane and vicious plan on the Jews, blaming them for Germany s Financial Depression. We all know about the Holocaust if you do not know by now, check it out in Google. I used the term Nazi to describe the Holocaust. Over six million Jews were exterminated, over 1200 Catholic Priests, other Christians, and any one that opposed Hitler s regime. Again, in the USA and the World, we are making it very clear with Roe vs Wade with over 55 million + abortions, that we are guilty! We are killing the most innocent, Babies, with so called Abortion Rights. Under GOD, it is wrong to support Abortion, Period! As Catholic Men, we cannot support Abortion. We, however, must love the sinner and hate the sin! Pray, brothers, pray, to end this travesty of Abortion. Support your Pro-Life Organization. (All that is written can be verified by checking the facts out in Google and other sources) 2015 March for Life
