THE NATIVITY OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST June 24, 2018 Most Reverend Edward K. Braxton Bishop of Belleville We, the people of St. Clare Catholic Parish, In the Diocese of Belleville, are called by God in baptism to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Centered in the Eucharist, and strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we strive to live the Gospel and further the reign of God. We do this by creating a vibrant faith community, by actively promoting justice and evangelization, and by using our gifts in the service of God s people, to give God glory and reverence all of Creation. Update From Our Pastor, Fr. Jim... Before I talk about my own health situa on, I join with you in praying for our parishioners Jon and Lisa Harter, in the loss of their baby last weekend due to a car accident. An overview of their situa on is below my ar cle. We pray for all parents who have lost a child since that is a grief beyond imagining. These are mes when a parish family really makes a difference as we care for one another. The Sunday Eucharist always unites us in God's love and care for each of us in our varied challenges and losses. I also want to thank you so very much for your con nued prayers for recovery from my back surgery last Wednesday. Since it was a very complicated surgery working in and around the spinal cord, a er two days at home and things were not improving, I was readmi ed to the hospital. A er an MRI, it was determined I needed a second surgery, which was on Tuesday this past week and appears to have been successful. Therefore, I have been on flat bed rest since the second surgery and will hopefully be released from the hospital on Sunday. I will s ll need several weeks of complete rest and recovery at home. No need for visits, since your prayers are the most important thing at this point. I miss being with you at the Eucharist but the Holy Spirit unites us and I feel close to you through God's grace and mercy. With you through Jesus' Sacred Heart, Father Jim Deiters Prayer Request Please pray for parishioners Jon and Lisa Harter who were involved in a tragic car accident in North Carolina this past weekend. Jon and Lisa, who was 5 months pregnant, and three of their friends were hit head on by another driver. The accident resulted in injuries to all, as well as the loss of Jon and Lisa's pregnancy. Their unborn daughter's name is Alice Evaine Harter. Lisa also suffered a fractured femur and pelvis and will be in a wheelchair for at least 6 weeks, a er which me she will go through physical therapy to help her walk. She is expected to make a full recovery. Their 2 year old son, Elliot, was not with them--he was staying with grandparents and is perfectly safe. One passengers had successful brain surgery following the accident, and they are hopeful that she will make a full recovery. The other passengers will recover fully. They do not know the prognosis for the driver and child from the other vehicle and they have asked us to include them in our prayers, along with them, their daughter, and their friends. They also want us to know that, although the are mourning Alice's death, they are grateful, happy, and joyful to be alive. When they return, they will have family members staying with them to help provide support for daily living but will s ll need our prayers and support as their faith community as they mourn and heal in our midst. His tireless proclaiming of the coming of the Messiah is inspiring. He definitely understood his vocation in life to prepare the way of the Lord. He gained notoriety for his zealous preaching and his lifestyle. We can take a lesson from John; he was not daunted by his detractors in continuing his mission here on earth. He has set a bold example of being a real believer. Can we be as bold each day in living out our Vocation?
