From Your Parish Pastoral Council The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is a consultative body whose purpose is to assist Father Brown in carrying out the parish s vision, articulated on the cover page of the bulletin. Another role of the PPC is to act as a sounding board for the congregation at large. In our most recent meeting we discussed: The RCIA ministry s role in a faith journey, ways for the entire Parish to help evangelize, engage, and welcome candidates into our community, as well as to provide opportunities for new Catholics to continue putting their faith into action. The preparation of an Advent Parish Retreat here with Sr. Patricia Bruno, OP and Fr. Jude Siciliano, OP. Update on our Hearing Devices, their distribution at Mass, feedback on clear communication, and the posting of a sign at the Church s entrance to encourage use. Approval of a new Vision Statement that will appear in the Bulletin. Introduction of a new electronic tool, Flocknote, that will expand our abilities to communicate within our Parish as well as to provide the means to offer the Word on Fire library series. We look forward to continuing to receive your questions and suggestions. Please contact the PPC members through our group email below, or you may also leave a message at (415) 891-7413 and we will be very happy to return your call. Trinity Sunday Sunday, May 27, 2018 Dear Parishioners, This past Wednesday, Father Ginter invited me to be the guest speaker for our Theology On Tap series at Sam s Anchor Café, and it was a real delight for me also, it seems, for the parishioners who gathered for drinks, food and fellowship. Given the Pentecost prayers of last Sunday (the final day of the Easter Season), and also the nature of this Sunday s focus on the Most Holy Trinity, I chose to speak with the people about the RCIA the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The process by which people become full members of the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. It was fascinating, as always, to be part of the interaction where people of faith come together and talk about something important: in this case, our opportunity to evangelize right in our own family, neighborhood, or circle of friends. Some of those present, like me, were converts to the Catholic faith, and most were cradle Catholics. We talked about why people might come to Sister Dolores and start the ball rolling: I ve always felt a certain call, and now I think God might be calling me to learn more about Catholicism. My spouse and children are Catholic, I ve been attending Mass with them for ages, and now I want to be one with them in the same faith. At this point in my life, I am looking for meaning and community and a solid sense of communion, so I want to join the RCIA group and discover if this is right for me! Each catechumen in the RCIA group has a different background and story. Some pray over the decision for years, and then finally take the plunge, while others join the group in 2018 and get baptized and confirmed during the Easter Vigil Mass in 2019. The past few years, we have seen entire families take part, with the children and parents all celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation as a family on Holy Saturday night! It was beautiful to be part of the discussion, and to think of the many hearts who might be touched by these good people who invite the curious to come and see as Jesus himself said. It was inspiring to sense the joy and dedication of all in the room, sharing stories of faith and asking how we pass along to others the joy of the Real Presence, the Sacrament of Penance, the chance to become part of a parish where you can not only get baptized, but also become involved in the many ministries of outreach, catechesis, charity, song, worship, and hospitality. If you know someone who may want to learn more, please contact Sister Dolores or me, so we can explore with them if Catholicism, and St. Hilary Parish, might be the home they seek! Father Brown

Bethlehem Artworks June 2-3 in Tarantino Hall after all Masses https://bethlehemartworks.com/ As you may know, the Christian population in the Holy Land has dropped dramatically in the last ten years, from 65% to under 2%. The few Christians left rely entirely on the sale of their hand-carved olivewood religious figures for their livelihood. With the ever increasing turmoil in the Middle East, fewer and fewer people are making pilgrimages and visits to the Holy Land, and hence, fewer and fewer opportunities are presented to market these olivewood carvings. Your advocacy of our mission enables our Christian brothers and sisters to remain in their homeland and continue the Christian presence. Our organization has provided assistance to over 100 poor families in the Holy Land for over 15 years. Thanks to your support and hospitality, we are able to offer over 100 unique religious items to foster devotion. The 15 years we have spent working with the Catholic Community of California has made a major impact on the lives of those who continue to believe in our Lord, Jesus Christ. I am confident that with your permission, we will make the biggest difference thus far in the lives of our brothers and sisters in the holy cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. ~ Mr. Issa Qumseya https://www.facebook.com/bethlehem.artworks/

We recognize that there are excellent photographers located across the three counties of the archdiocese, taking photos at parishes, shrines, and events. It s simply impossible for our staff to be in all those same places. Although we cannot compensate for the photos, credit will be given whenever possible. Good quality amateur photos are welcome, and cell phone cameras are fine if set to high resolution.
