OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Our sympathy to Maurice Thelemann on the death of his brother, LeRoy. His funeral was Thursday in LeSueur. May he rest in peace. This week, Pope Francis announced a special gift to the Church for the Year of Mercy (December 8, 2015 - November 20, 2016). He granted to priests the ability to lift the penalties for women confessing abortions. This is a great gift, and demonstrates that no one is too far from the mercy of God. Pope Francis is inviting all who have had abortions that there is no better time to experience God s mercy. Abortion is a serious offense (as it is the taking of innocent life in the womb), and the Church has attached to the procuring of abortion an automatic excommunication, meaning the person is barred from receiving Eucharist until the penalty is lifted. There are other automatic excommunications (apostasy, heresy, schism, desecration of the Eucharist, attacking the Pope, breaking the seal of Confession, a priest absolving an accomplice in his sexual sins, and consecrating a bishop without authorization). Even then, though, there are means to return. These penalties are not to kick the person out, but rather to help show the seriousness of the problem. These last months, a number of videos from a group called Center for Medical Progress have released a number of videos involving Planned Parenthood and various groups that buy and sell the bodies of the aborted fetuses. As nauseating as the videos are of the greed, the profit from abortion, etc., the greater problem is yet unaddressed the pain that it causes for the women who procure abortion as the immediate health risks (perforated uterus, infections, and even death), but also the delayed effects (increased depression and suicide rates, as well as the heightened proclivity to breast cancer). With all of this, it is a time of grace to pray for those who have been harmed by abortion and help them find physical, mental, and spiritual healing. It is also time to pray for the conversion of those who support abortion and those involved in it. For more information, I would be remiss if I did not mention Abby Johnson and her book, Unplanned, as well as her website And Then There Were None at abortionworker.com, as well as Project Rachel (HopeAfterAbortion.org), and Rachel s Vineyards (Rachelsvineyard.org). In Christ, Fr. Todd J. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MONDAY BIBLE STUDY Our Adult Bible Study is about to begin again. We meet on Monday mornings at 9:00 A.M in the Family Room, beginning on September 14 th. This year we will be alternating with looking at the Sunday Scriptures one week and going through the Bible Study, Mary, Jesus mother and ours. Here is the opening paragraph of the book. After centuries of employing patriarchs, prophets, kings, and sages in his saving plan for humanity, God reached the point in which he needed an extraordinary humble and reliable person to carry out his crucial mission. For this task he chose someone who, in today s world, might not be old enough to get a driver s permit and certainly would not be allowed to travel to World Youth without a chaperone. We are talking, of course, of Mary of Nazareth. We invite anyone who is interested to come, check out if this is what you might be interested in. Everyone is welcome! For further information, please call Terry at 934-4503.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sanctuary Choir Rehearsals Resume in September Expressing faith in the one, true God requires a different language - one of the most powerful languages being music. To penetrate the human heart where the desire for God resides, words alone do not suffice. We simply cannot love God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength without lifting our voice in song. If you would like to share your gift of faith through music, join the Sanctuary Choir. The first rehearsal is Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Band Rehearsal Hall. There are no auditions, and all voice parts are needed. If you are an instrumentalist, brass, percussion, guitar, strings, we need you, too. Membership is open to 7 th graders on up. Church choir membership is one of the most demanding of volunteer ministries in the parish and your participation is a gift of service to the Catholic Church of St. Peter. The rewards are great: friendship, music-making and treats! Contact the director, Barbara Frank, with questions or concerns at barbara.frank@churchofstpeter.org! Rehearsals: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Sunday warm-up: 9:25 a.m. Mass: 10:00 a.m. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Thrift Store (401 S. Minn. Ave., SP) is looking for volunteers willing to work a couple of hours a week on Monday afternoons or Wednesday mornings. They are also hoping to find volunteers who like to tinker on items brought into the store to sell. If you feel you can help in any of the above areas, please give Barb Klaseus a call at 507-931-9150. Thank you!!
