Perhaps the Holy Spirit is leading you to help in one of the following ministries: 1. Bishop Care Center: We usually go on the 4th Monday of each month to visit the residents and host a sing-along time. 2. Bible Studies: We have many Bible Studies from which to choose. Check the calendar for times and places or call the church office (760) 872-2261. 3. Would you like to help with the Children s Ministries of Kid s Club Sunday School, occasional help in the Nursery on Sunday or either of our Youth Group nights? 4. Prepare food for our monthly Share Your Blessings dinner or for the fellowship table?

3 MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH MISSION BELIZE The Belize mission trip planning is well underway. We will depart May 18 and return May 27. The dental team has received one permit and waiting for two more. The construction team will be adding a bottom floor to a house so that a mother and six children will finally have a home. Michael has been working various plans from three different directions and the final plan decision will depend on finances and materials available. We appreciate any help you might feel led to give toward construction costs. Please do this by check to First Pres. with a note to Belize Mission on the memo line. The deadline for this is May 1. Also, we would appreciate prayers for safety, health and for the teams to work well together. Michael and Cynthia Quinn CHURCH BUSINESS Financials from the end of February: Budgeted: $42,192 Received: $37,220 ELDERS AND DEASONS As a church we are entering the season where we begin to search for and nominate Elders and Deacons to replace outgoing members. The Nominating Committee will begin the search in earnest in June this year and would be glad to meet with any church members who may have an interest in becoming either an Elder or Deacon. There are materials available that give the requirements for either office. If you would like to have more information please contact anyone on the Nominating Committee. Cynthia Quinn, Jeannie Hutton, Kelliann Palu, Doris Ives, Michael Quinn and Lila Hadeler.

4 Newsletter Notes from Session This month our Session spent most of its time on Christian Education at FPC. We have less children and need to adjust our programs for Sunday. Our plan is to move to two groups of students, high school and the remaining elementary students. The high school students are invited to stay in worship on the first Sunday for Communion, while the younger kids have a movie and popcorn day. Both groups will have class time the 2nd and 3rdSunday's. The 4th Sunday will be a worship time. Kris Langley is investigating The Alpha for youth program. We are finalizing the teachers for this. The Discipleship program for 5 high school students is coordinated by Pastor Peter and is planning events, and training. Our Nursery hosts one to three small babies each week with a rotating schedule of volunteers and 2 paid employees who rotate, Patty and Liesa. Larisa Craig continues with the high school youth group on Thursday nights, and Kristi Boxley is doing the Friday night elementary youth group. These programs could use your help and prayers. Thank you for those of you who pray and contribute. Session is participating in a year long Elder Leadership Training that is facilitated through ECO. We are working on individual spiritual autobiographies to notice where God has and is moving in our lives. Session is also working on a security system for the back of the church. The nominating committee is meeting to fill the vacancy on the Deacons. We are finishing plans for a wonderful Easter program. Please invite your friends and neighbors. LENTEN SEASON - March 1 - April 16 This Lenten Season we are seeking a special emphasis on prayer for our church. This idea started with a WOW Bible Study lesson on prayer by Max Lucado. In one of the studies he mentioned how he asked his church for 120 prayer partners who would commit to pray daily for the church, the pastor and his family. This really had an impact on their church. Pastor Peter thought this would be a wonderful way to celebrate this season of Lent. -- Anne Sutherland, Karen Inderbieten & Kristi Boxley April 9 - Palm Sunday April 13 - Maunday Thursday Service, 6:00 p.m. in Hillis Hall. Join us for this simple meal and communion service. April 16 - Easter - Eggs-stravaganza at 8:30 a.m. in Hillis Hall. Bring breakfast casseroles of fresh fruit.

5 YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS It's time to get ready for Summer Camps and we have some information that you might find valuable. This summer we will be sending our young people to CALVIN CREST SUMMER CAMPS in Oakhurst, CA. We are excited to note that our kids will be joining with our sister ECO church affiliates, so they will be getting to meet some like-minded fellow travelers. There are three age groups and two camp dates: Sherwood Forest - 4th to 6th grades, July 16 to 22. $370 per camper. Junior Hi - 6th to 8th grades, July 16 to 22. $420 per camper. High School grades 9th to 12th, July 23-29. $420 per camper. It is required that we provide counselors at a 7 to 1 ratio and there is no charge to be a counselor! So perhaps this might fit into your summer schedule. More information will soon be forthcoming but if you have kids in these age groups you might want to look at your summer calendars and fill in the dates. If you are not familiar with the Calvin Crest facility you may look it up online at www.calvincrest.org. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Library Notes - April s Book Highlight: Cloth of Heaven Song of Erin, Book 1 By B.J. Hoff This novel is set in Ireland and America in 1839. A powerful hurricane batters the Emerald Isle wreaking great destruction. Many were left with no homes and the reality of winter s cold and starvation. Gor many the thought of leaving their home for a better life in America was their only hope. This is a historical novel of faith and trust during a very difficult time both in Ireland and America. Your Librarian, Anne Sutherland
