THE BIBLE AND THE SACRAMENTS How do the Old Testaments signs of water, bread, blood, circumcision, and animal sacrifice prefigure the Sacraments which Jesus gives to us as avenues of Grace? Please consider joining us in our Bible study to gain a deeper understanding of our Sacraments in their origins and purposes in our lives today. The studies will begin September 4 and end November 13. The sign-up weekends will be August 11-12 and August 18-19 after all Masses. ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO THEM, O LORD... August 24-25, 2018 Local Charities Collection for the Poor & Needy... September 1-2 (for August) THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW Several parishioners advised me on Monday that they did not receive Offertory Envelopes for August. August was to be our last month with the old envelope provider. However, they failed to say that they would not be printing our August envelopes because they were usually sent with September s. We had to call them and have them print the envelopes as was our agreement. If you have not received your envelopes in the mail yet they should be there Monday or Tuesday. Know that they apologized for their error and any inconvenience it causes you, the parishioners. Meantime, if you are donating cash, please use the green envelopes putting your name and address on it, so we can credit your contribution correctly. If you are using a check, as long as it bears your name and address we can connect it to your account and credit you accordingly. Thanks for your patience as we move ahead with this transition. MEN S RETREAT ANNOUNCEMENT The Men's Retreat Group from Saint Paul Parish will gather again for fellowship, spiritual refreshment and always good food at Saint Paul of the Cross, on the Southside of Pittsburgh, on the weekend of September 21-23. The center sits on the hilltop overlooking the Carson Street business district, yet separated from the noise and activity of the Southside. It was established in the 1850 s with the mission of providing spiritual retreats to the men & women of the Pittsburgh Region. People have come alone and in groups to experience a retreat. Both Church communities and business have brought people to this place. If you are feeling a yearning for something more with God, then perhaps you are being called to the hilltop on the Southside. There is a suggested offering for the weekend, and it should be noted that no one is turned away because of an inability to pay. Transportation is provided. Accommodations are private. If you are feeling that yearning, call a promoter and discuss a retreat at St. Paul of the Cross. Promoters: Joseph Koller: 724-836-7978; Paul Whalen: 724-836-3096. A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS! THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN.

Most of us have more than one job to do, and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers, volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing at a time. But which of these is the work of God? We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as being God s work. But everything we do with a faithful heart and with love for others is God s work. We each have our own role to fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary. We cannot always see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed, where it is needed. What is God s work? This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent (John 6:29). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. RESTROOM RENOVATION CONTINUES...
