The Eucharist is the center of our life and work together. Through the one bread, we become the one body of Christ, a living sacrifice of praise. In our worship of God, the Author of life and holiness, we proclaim our hope in the life of Christ s Resurrection; we open our hearts and minds to the Spirit of God dwelling in our midst. In our work together, we seek - to enable our children to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God; - to accompany our young sons and daughters on their journeys of discovery toward adulthood; - to deepen our faith commitment through prayer & study; - to be present to one another in the joys and sufferings, the victories and struggles of life; - to give witness to the Gospel of justice and compassion to our hurting world. We welcome to our parish family all who share our Catholic faith & traditions & our search for God in all things. -Parish Mission Statement Contact Information: Parish Office... St Mark the Evangelist Londonderry Deacon s Pencil.. Faithful Commitment All of today s scripture readings are concerned with the Personal Costs that faithfulness to God can bring. In our first reading, the prophet Jeremiah s life is jeopardized because of his unpopular warning to King Zedekiah that Jerusalem would soon be conquered by the Babylonians. Jeremiah continues this proclamation despite grave personal risk to himself. In our second from the Letter to the Hebrews, the anonymous author asks his readers to remember how Jesus remained faithful to his mission, even though it would lead to the cross. Jesus followers should do the same. Today s Gospel reading comments on the discord that the preaching of Jesus brings. Jesus reveals that his coming will result in conflict, even between family members. He demands a response, and many groups are torn apart when some choose to follow him and incur suffering in his name, while others refuse to do so. There is no middle ground with Jesus; you are either with him or against him. We need only look at places in our world where families are pitted against each other. We are called to declare our loyalty to Christ and make our commitment to him. This might involve cutting off some relationships, possibly in our own family. Are we willing to take such risks? How seriously do we take our commitment to Jesus? Today, we need to recognize that God does not guarantee that his servants, even ones of stature like Jeremiah and Jesus, will escape persecution, even when they are faithful. But God does promise us, as he promised them, that he will be with us and will give us the strength to endure. God Bless, Dc. Lee #944

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 14, 2016 RCIA process starting soon! As some of you may know we are starting up the RCIA process this coming fall, we have a wonderful team that is eager to get started! I am reaching out to you all seeing if there is anyone who might be interested in the program. It is for people who are looking to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. No strings attached with contacting me, no contracts to sign, and no pressure, even if you just have questions about the program or about the Catholic Church I'd love to hear from you! So, if you or someone you know is interested please feel free to either email me at stmarkevan@comcast.net or call 603-432-8711. Thank you! You are all in my prayers. - Beccah Nusbaum Please Join us Monday for Special Masses Please join us Monday, August 15, 2016 for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. The Bishop is requesting that the faithful plan to attend Mass on Monday, August 15, to pray for the world, and for the many victims of world violence. Although it is not a Holy Day of Obligation, the Bishop asks that we still make an attempt to attend. We at St Mark will have Mass at 9 AM and 7 PM on that day. The rosary will also be recited before both of the Masses. New Marriage Ministry Forming! Join us for our kick-off event! St. Mark s Marriage Ministry will be hosting a spaghetti dinner for married or engaged couples at 6PM on Saturday, September 17th in the church hall. Tickets will be on sale for $25 per couple after Masses on Sep. 3rd and 4th and Sep 10th and 11th. This is going to be a tremendous ministry for our parish! See you there! STAY TUNED! Creation Care Team! This fall St. Mark s will form a Creation Care Team. The team will sponsor projects to reduce our parish s impact on the environment, help parishioners learn more about caring for God s creation, and advocate, along with others, to promote and respect all life. Watch for more details in the coming months. Mass Requests We are now booking Mass requests for your loved ones either deceased or living, for weekday Masses beginning September 28th of 2016 and both weekend and daily Masses in 2017. Just give us a call at 603 432-8711 or stop by the parish office. The usual donation is $10.00 a Mass. Preschool Playgroup St. Mark's Titus 2 Women's Ministry is looking to see if there is interest in forming a playgroup / support group for Moms and their preschoolers (newborn and up). If you would be interested in participating in such a group please send an email to Susanne at Live4Him@myfairpoint.net. Grace Within-New Ministry for Women Registration will be held after Masses on August 20-21; space is limited. Contact Diane Carter at 434-4762 or dhcarter13@gmail.com or see bulletin insert for further details. Please pray that this ministry will blossom and strengthen our community. Vocations Reverend Jason Y. Jalbert, Director of the Office of Vocations for the Diocese of Manchester, said, Our Church needs committed men and women who believe that their call to single, married, ordained or consecrated life is from God, and we stand ready to support and encourage each response of vocation. I encourage any young man or woman who has questions about his or her own vocation to speak to their parish priest, since he can give some helpful advice. The year of 2016 marks the 53rd Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. If you re looking for a great way to start your weekend, here s the answer. It starts early, 7:00am. It s hard hitting, like going to the gym. It s breakfast and a cup of coffee you didn t have to make. It s fellowship with guys who support and challenge each other to stand up for their family, church, and community. It s where men of all ages, occupations, and family situations come together in Christian fellowship. Most important, it s a group of guys you can stand shoulder to shoulder with to take on the challenges of being a 21 st century Catholic man. There are no sign-ups, no projects, no dues. Just show up at 7:00am next Saturday morning, August 20, for fellowship, food, and prayer. We guarantee to have you headed out by 9:00am sharp so you can get to your weekend projects. Come and check us out - you won t be disappointed. For information about the Men of St. Joseph call Bill Donroe at 432-6066.
