Mottram Evangelical Church & Hattersley Community Church January 2010 Living to glorify God, serve his church and reach his world 1 www.mottramec.co.uk www.hattersleycc.co.uk 1

Mottram Evangelical Church and Hattersley Community Church are interdependent churches who seek to be evangelical in their understanding and charismatic in their experience. Together we live to glorify God, serve his church and reach his world. Insight is the monthly newsletter, prepared by Margaret and Stephen Winfield and published by Mottram Evangelical Church, Stalybridge Road, Mottram, Hyde, Cheshire. SK14 6NF. Tel. 01457 764113. Articles for inclusion should be submitted before the deadline indicated on the diary dates page. Contributions can be deposited in the church office, sent to 4, Hall Drive, Mottram, or by e-mail to stephen_winfield @btopenworld.com We do ask that contributors submit their name for inclusion with submissions, as personal contributions are accepted on the understanding that they are not necessarily the opinions of the Editors or the Church Elders. Peter Gareth Jim Tim Copestake Lloyd-Jones Solomon Verrall At the beginning of every year it is good to spend time reflecting where the Lord has brought us from and where he is leading us to. Throughout Scripture we find numerous examples of God not only having plans for his people, but in his mercy revealing those plans in order that they may walk in obedience. Biblical stories of men and women of faith provide ample evidence of what happens when we exercise obedient faith in our amazing God. During the season we have just celebrated, we were reminded of a Jewish teenager who was told that she would give birth to the Messiah. In answer to her question, How will this be, since I am still a virgin? the Angel answered, For nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). Indeed this revelation was not only true for Mary, but for those who had gone before and for us who have come after. Therefore, whatever challenges we face or whatever circumstances we find ourselves, let us be reminded that. Nothing is impossible with God Although both myself and Jim will be speaking on vision at the beginning of the year we are both aware that words from leaders are insufficient, what God is looking for is a people who together move as a body in obedience to his word. In response then I would ask you Firstly: Get involved then with the respective times of prayer (listed on the back page) and remember prayer is not about the Lord s work. Prayer is the Lord s work. Secondly: To be courageous enough too prayerfully and honestly, with other members of your Small Group, Ministry Group or Outreach to answer these three questions: Where are you now? Unless you identify where you are now, it is unlikely you will ever achieve that which the Lord calls you to. This is for the simple reason that your current location determines the direction in which you need to travel to reach your final destination. What hopes has the Lord given you? Although I am aware that we have natural ambitions, God through his Spirit also impresses upon our hearts his desires. What then are these God given desires concerning your Small Group, Ministry Group or Outreach? How will you get there? Time after time we see in Scripture that God not only gives his people vision but direction and strategy in order to achieve his ends. How then is God leading you in order that you fulfil his plans this year? Church Child Protection Policy All church children s and young people s work is carried out by personnel who have undergone CRB disclosures and in nothing is impossible with God in 2010. accordance with the Church s Child Protection Policy. For Prayer " So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-arround life - and place it before God as an offering." Romans 12:1 (The Message) Praise God for His presence with us: in our everyday lives and in our body as a church. Prasie Him that He knows and He can talk with us wherever we are and whatever we are doing. Pray that God will show us more and more His truth in our lives and circumstances, and that His truth will set us free. Free to know who we are in Him and free to make His choices at each turn and situation in our lives. Pray for our Government with the coming election, for God's righteousness and mercy. We are in challenging times and as Christains the one thing we cannot do is nothing. We need to pray and stand in whatever way we can, as God enables us. Pray for our Church finances, that God's bounty will meet our needs and where we need to give more for His Kingdom, we will do this joyfully so that His blessings to us will over-flow. Pray for the new Alpha course in Mottram and the Freedom in Christ course in Hattersley. Praise God for being able to work with the Anglican churches so well in Mottrram and Hattersley and continue to pray for the new vicar to be appointed in Hattersley: that He or She will love and follow Jesus. Pray for all those home alone this January: that they will be warm and be able to get to shops etc and that they will know that the Holy Spirit is with them every day and every night. Pray for those with family issues and struggles, that they will also know the Holy Spirit's presence day by day. Pray for our elders, that they will have the wisdom, peace and insight that they need. Ruth Chorley The Message Forget about what s happened; don t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I m about to do something brand-new. It s bursting out! Can you see it? There it is! I m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Isaiah 43 v18&19 The Message Gwen Taylor Lord, may the lessons learned from past failures strengthen me to face the future with new hope Scripture Union Notes Gwen Taylor 3 www.mottramec.co.uk www.hattersleycc.co.uk 3

Mottram Carol Singing Hattersley News We had such a lovely evening carol singing. Bob accompanied us as we sang in William Ford House and around Mottram. People from the Parish Church and Hattersley Community Church joined us. The people at William Ford joined in enthusiastically and we were also encouraged by those who came out to listen as we sang on the streets. The evening finished with warm drinks and stollen cake and we were all thankful for better weather this year than last! Sue Martin An Easy New Year Walk (With a bit of hearty food to look forward to!) Freedom In Christ course will help every Christian take hold of the truth of who they are in Christ, resolve personal and spiritual conflicts and become a fruitful disciple. The next course starts at 7:30pm on Thursday 21st January 2010 at the Harehill Tavern, Hattersley Road East, Hattersley. For more info contact Jim Solomon 10 am 2nd January 2010 Ruth Chorley sent in this recent photo of the Worship Band at HCC without a caption. My guess is that she wanted to show Jez about to get funky with the guitar, but if you have an idle moment you could amuse yourselves making up alternatives. Come and join us for a social walk of around 4 miles around Mottram and Hollingworth. Starting at MEC and arriving back for some warming food. See Andrew or myself for details. The Christmas Concert More Pics! Don t know what it s all about? You had to be there really! Little Gems Christmas Meal Little Gems mums, staff, helpers and trustees got together for a Christmas meal. It was great to hear about the day to day goings on and the fun the children have. It was also very encouraging to hear the mums praising Tracey, Louise and Liz for the work they are doing. We all had such a good evening together and would recommend the food at the Waggon!
