Sharon, MA Our Lady of Sorrows Parish From Senior Deacon Mike: The season of Advent captures our attention with scripture and prayer and anticipation. The first Sunday alerts us to the coming of Christ yesterday, today, and at the end time Are we ready? Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. Register for a Summer 2017 Mission Trip! High School students will head to Toronto with Young Neighbors in Action July 23-29. This week-long service experience provides participants with a mix of direct service, opportunities for learning and dialogue, cross-cultural sharing, community building, prayer, and fun. Young Neighbors helps participants learn how poverty and a lack of respect for human dignity impact the lives of real people. All of this is done through the lens of the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching. Middle School students will head to Springfield, MA with Just5Days July 17-21.* Just5Days is more than just a week of volunteering; it is a chance for middle schoolers to stretch themselves, learn about their faith, and serve the community side by side with other youth and caring adults. To register for either trip, submit a $50 deposit (made payable to Our Lady of Sorrows) to Teresa Coda by December 15th. For more information about the trips, contact Teresa Coda. (781-784-2265, or tcoda@olossharon.org). *Please note that it is possible that the Just5Days Trip will be changed to the following week, July 24-28 (still in Springfield). This will depend on how many students express interest in the trip and the availability of chaperones. The finalized week will be announced as soon as it is determined, hopefully by the first of the year. Worldwide Marriage Encounter But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. Let us strengthen our marriages in faithfulness by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. The next WWME Weekends are Dec 2-4, 2016 in Duxbury, MA and Jan 20-22, 2017 in Duxbury, MA. For more information, call Stephen & Michelle O'Leary at 800-710-9963 or visit us at www.wwmema.org. Tessa Bloechi Traveling with Jesuit Volunteer Corps. On December 3 rd, I will be traveling to Dodoma, Tanzania to spend two years teaching at St. Peter Claver High School through an organization called the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. JVC sends recent college graduates to various destinations in the USA and in the world to live simply and in the service of those in need. I have been a member of the Catholic Church for all of my life but I didn t fully connect with my faith until I was introduced to the Jesuits at Fordham University. The people I encountered there and the education that Fordham fostered truly brought spirituality into my lived experience, connecting it to the calling I felt to help those who struggle to meet life s basic needs. In a sermon given by a priest at the Church of the Ascension in Harlem, we were exhorted to remember that no matter our professional vocation, our responsibility to the poor and suffering is our baptismal vocation. I feel those words to be especially resonant in my own life right now and I would like to invite you, as a parish community, into that calling as well. I would appreciate any thoughts and prayers on my journey and, if you feel so called, a donation to JVC s Send Me To Serve campaign (through this link: https://jesuitvolunteers.myetap.org/fundraiser/smts2016/individual.do? participationref=1141.0.539936919) would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. We encourage all our parishioners who worship with us to register. Our registry is a vital source of connection we use to communicate and build community. Please call the rectory, 781-784- 2265, or return this form to the rectory via the collection basket, mail, or in person. Thank you. Name: Email: Street Address: Town: Zip: November 27, 2016
