Website: Saintjanuarius.org E-mail Address: stjanplum@verizon.net October 4, 2015 Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time TOWARD HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS From the beginning of creation, God intended for people to live together in relationship with one another. Much of scripture shows us how to do this as it illustrates and clarifies God's plans. The readings this weekend guide us in the value and care of our relationships. Specifically, the Gospel focuses on the circumstances of failed relationships. Unlike the Pharisees, we would do well not to focus on the laws that pertain to failed relationships, but concentrate instead on what God really intended for us. Healthy bonds require a lot of our time and energy. They certainly require trust and honesty. Jesus demonstrated a deep commitment to his friends and to us. As our brother, he gave his very life for us. Children work hard at friendships. They trust, forgive, and love without conditions. The final words of today's Gospel invite us to welcome Jesus and the people of our relationships with the fresh enthusiasm of a child. Worship Schedules Mass Schedule Saturday - 4:00 PM, Sunday - 10:00 AM Monday - Friday - 8:00 AM Confession Saturday - 3:30 PM Sunday - 9:30 AM Or by appointment Sacraments BAPTISM - By Appointment MARRIAGE - Arrangements are to be made six months in advance. We are grateful to those who have built up St. Januarius to be a welcoming, active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to use the gifts and talents given to us by the Father to support the lives of parishioners at all age levels and stages of life. We also pledge to live our lives so that through our words and actions all may feel the presence of Jesus Christ in the world today.

Page 2 If you, or someone you know, has questions about Jesus or the Catholic Church, and is not baptized, baptized in Protestant faith, or have not made their Holy Communion or Confirmation, please contact Fr. Ken. Free will offerings are being taken for the Annual Coat Drive every week. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Each Sunday in October, beginning with Oct.4, a decade of the Rosary will be prayed. On Oct. 25, the CCD students will lead. Come one, come all and celebrate Mass with prayers and blessings for healings with Fr. Bill Kiel, October 19 at 6:30 pm. All weekday Masses during the week of October 12-16 will be cancelled. I will be away at a retreat. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Ask yourselves: How much space do I give to the Lord? Do I stop to talk with him? Ever since we were children, our parents have taught us to start and end the day with a prayer, to teach us to feel that the friendship and the love of God accompanies us. Let us remember the Lord more in our daily life! ~General Audience, May 1, 2013 May God s perfect peace and love remain with you always! ~ Fr. Wade ruling that legalized abortion in the U.S., the first Sunday of October has been designated by the Church as Respect Life Sunday, also called Sanctity of Life Sunday. For more than 35 years now, the Catholic Church and others have dedicated the month of October, starting with the first Sunday, to extra time and resources in advancing the culture of life. This can be done through prayer, activism, and education against the falsehoods promoted by the pro-abortion advocates. Tuesday: St. Bruno - was the founder of a religious Order, the Carthusians. This Order is one of the strictest in the Church. Carthusians follow the Rule of St. Benedict, but accord it a most austere interpretation; there is perpetual silence and complete abstinence from flesh meat (only bread, legumes, and water are taken for nourishment).. Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher - She was the tenth of eleven children. She was drawn to the religious life, but turned away because of her frail health. For 12 years she assisted her brother, a parish priest, as a housekeeper. With encouragement of the bishop, in 1843 she founded the Sisters of the Holy Name of Jesus and Mary, taking the name Marie-Rose. Her religious order was dedicated to Christian education, especially for the poor. Wednesday: Our Lady of the Rosary - Is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary in relation to the Rosary. It was formerly sometimes known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory. In 1573, Pope Gregory XIII changed the title of the "Feast of Our Lady of Victory" to "Feast of the Holy Rosary". Pope Clement XI extended the feast to the whole of the Latin Rite, inserting it into the General Roman Calendar in 1716, and assigning it to the first Sunday in October Friday: St. Denis and Companions - Came to France and became the bishop of Paris. Then the Emperor Valerian began to harass and trouble the Christians in 258. One day St. Denis was preaching the Good News of Jesus when he and two companions were martyred. His companions were a priest named Rusticus and a deacon named Eleutherius. The Christian community cherished the memory of these brave martyrs. At first, they were only able to build a little chapel to mark the sight of their death. Later the chapel became the great church of St. Denis. St. John Leonardi - He was a pharmacist's assistant at Lucca, studied for the priesthood, and was ordained in 1572. He gathered a group of laymen about him to work in hospitals and prisons, became interested in the reforms proposed by the Council of Trent, and proposed a new congregation of secular priests. Great opposition to his proposal developed, but in 1583, his association (formally designated Clerks Regular of the Mother of God in 1621) was recognized by the bishop of Lucca with the approval of Pope Gregory XIII. He was venerated for his miracles and religious fervor and is considered one of the founders of the College for the Propagation of the Faith.
