The Theotokos appeared spreading her holy mantle over the frightened throng beseeching her intercession. Mary is called, among other titles, Mediatrix of all Graces because she cooperated with her Son in a unique manner in His labors among us. In heaven now she continues to intercede for us as we work out our salvation as pilgrims on this earth in the hope of heaven. The Second Vatican Council is careful to show, however, the primary role of Christ, her divine Son, as the one and only mediator: All the salvific influence of the Blessed Virgin on men originates, not from some inner necessity but from the divine pleasure. It flows from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on His mediation, depends entirely upon it and draws all its power from the same. It is no wonder that our Church calls Mary more honorable than the Cherubim and more glorious than the Seraphim. Although she is so highly exalted, Mary remains a human creature, and No creature could ever be counted equal with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer (Ibid. VIII, 62) Mary s mediation is seen as a sheer gift of her Son. It no more detracts from His unique mediatorship than parenthood in human beings detracts from the fatherhood of the Creator. Saturday is a Solemn Holyday. The liturgy will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Mirovanije $$ from next weekend will be sent to Womankind in Garfield Hts. providing high quality prenatal care and a full range of support services to pregnant women and their families at no cost.

Tinter Be assured that if God sends you on a stony path, He will provide you with strong shoes. We have been assigned a goal of $14,000.00 in the annual Diocesan Stewardship Campaign (same as last year). Everyone s participation is needed to help reach this amount. Pledge forms can be returned via the collection basket or U.S. mail. Checks should be made out to St. Joseph Church. (We will send periodic lump sums to the Diocese.) Twenty seven donors have contributed $7,710.00 putting us at 55% of our goal. Today marked the first day of our ECF year. Sixtythree students are enrolled in grades K-8. Let s show respect for our teachers by having your child/ children present by 9:00. Classes end at 10:20. A courtesy notification to the teacher when there is a known absence would also be appreciated. Want more liturgy this weekend? Father will be celebrating the 3:30 service at the Shrine of Mariapoch in Burton. In conjunction with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4), we once again will offer a pet blessing on October 1 at 1:00 (later in the day this year because of the morning Holyday liturgy). Bring your cat, dog, rabbit, bird, etc. to the front of the church. The blessing will take place rain or shine. A freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Lake Erie Labrador Retriever Rescue and the Parma Animal Shelter. Hot cider and pet treats will be provided! During Respect Life Month we traditionally offer an opportunity to assist a pro-life organization. As selected by our Right to Life coordinators, Womankind in Garfield Hts. will benefit from a Baby Bottle campaign. Next weekend you can grab a bottle from the vestibule to drop in your spare change from the month. As part of Forty Days for Life (September 28 through November 6), the rosary will be prayed prior to the weekend Divine Liturgies to help end abortions in this country. You are invited to participate and/or practice an act of fasting during the forty days. Last weekend our Social Media Committee included a survey in the Byzz Line. (Additional copies can be found on the desk in the vestibule.) They are trying to get a feel of what information parishioners want to receive and how they want to receive it. (Please return surveys in the collection box on the desk in the vestibule by October 9.)

ByzanTEEN Meeting/Picnic Father Jan would like to have an organization meeting with all of the teens on October 2 right after liturgy. Please meet in the foyer. The group will then walk to the pavilion for a picnic and discussion of upcoming events. The BLESS Group will meet at 7:00 on Monday in the Junior High classroom. The Building Commission will meet on Thursday at 6:00. We welcome into the Catholic Church, Marianne Polasko, wife of David, who last week made her first confession, recited her Profession of Faith, and received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. She made her conversion after fifteen weeks of study. May God grant to His Handmaid, many years of peace, health and happiness! Sandwich making will take place on Saturday, 10:00 (following the Holyday liturgy) in the Education Center. Archbishop William invites all wedding jubilarian couples to a banquet in their honor on October 9 at Holy Spirit Church in Parma. Anyone celebrating a silver or golden anniversary (as well as every year past the 50 th ) will be guests of the archbishop. Others may attend for a donation of $20 ($10 for children 12 and under). To register, please contact Father by October 3. The afternoon begins with a 4:00 prayer service followed by a banquet. The Hail Mary Prayer The Hail Mary is broken up into two parts--who Mary Is and Our Prayer to Mary. Below the Hail Mary is examined line by line. Prayer Biblical Support Explanation Hail Mary, full of Grace Luke 1:28 And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. The Lord is with Thee Luke 1:28 And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. The Angel Gabriel greets Mary with a very respectful greeting used for royalty. The text doesn t say Mary after Hail, but it is implied. Gabriel then proclaims Mary full of Grace (full of God s own life and love.) This is word for word. The Angel Gabriel said that the Lord is with Mary; she is full of His Grace, His own life. Blessed art thou among women And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Luke 1:42 Luke 1:42...cried out in a loud voice and said, Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb....cried out in a loud voice and said, Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Elizabeth still inspired by the Holy Spirit; she is inspired by the 3rd person of the Blessed Trinity to proclaim that Mary is the most blessed among all women. Elizabeth still inspired by the Holy Spirit proclaims that the fruit of Mary s womb, the developing Jesus, is blessed. The text doesn t say Jesus after womb, but it is implied that the fruit of her womb is Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God Luke 1:43 And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? Mary is full of God s grace; this would make her holy. Mary is the mother of the Lord Jesus Christ who is the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity. Since Jesus is God this makes her the mother of God. She is the mother of the God-Man Jesus, not the mother of the Trinity. Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful. St. James tells Christians to pray for one another. All the baptized are members of the body of Christ, therefore it is right to pray for other members of the body. James also says that the prayers of the righteous have great power. What human (other than Jesus) is more righteous than the Blessed Mother? Though she is in heaven she still hears the prayers of her children on Earth and intercedes for them.
