A NOTE FROM FATHER Dear Parishioners, Our sympathy to the family and friends of Patrick Dauffenbach, who passed this week. Also, our sympathy to Amber Eustice on the death of her cousin, and to the friends of Sr. Mariam Ardolf (Fr. Ed s sister). May their souls, and the soul of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. This weekend, we hear the 10 commandments in our first reading. These are the core commandments, the ones that are binding on all who profess faith in our Lord, who is creator of all. As Catholics, we have three that relate to God, and 7 to our interactions with each other. There, of course are other commandments, some given for a time (such as the dietary laws) or some for a particular purpose (the design of the Ark of the Covenant or the meeting tent). Some commandments are further explanations from the 10 commandments (against adultery, homosexuality, or fornication, for example). These 10 commandments and the further commandments are not just suggestions. Rather, they form the basis for true human thriving. During this Lenten season, we are reminded that there are things we can do that break our relationship, our covenant, with God. At the same time, restoration is only a Confession away! Please, make use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation! Do not assume there will be time for confession later. as we do not know when the Lord will call us. Should He call us, would our hearts be free from these serious sins and open to accept eternal life? ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND NEWS www.churchofstpeter.org/ji We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service.
