Pastors Column Dear family, As we know, January 1st, the Feast of the Mother of God, is normally a Holy Day of Obligation. However, when it falls on a Monday, the obligation is removed. So, this year, January 1st is not a Holy Day of Obligation, and thus, it is not a sin to miss Mass on January 1st. However, it is still a day of great solemnity, and it is always a beautiful way to start the New Year. We will have Solemn Mass at 9 am, and another Mass at 6 pm on January 1st. ----------------- Many thanks to everyone who helped in any way with our Christmas celebration. It was beautiful, due to the efforts of so many people who worked so hard. Thank you. ------------------ A suggestion! It has been so beautiful seeing all the "Christ Mass = Christmas" yard signs about. What a great witness to the true nature of Christmas! When you take it down, store it with your other Christmas decorations to use again next year. This will save the parish money - we won't have to buy so many new ones next year. I suggest we all take down the yard signs and take off the bumper stickers after January 1st - that way they will have more impact when people see them anew next Advent. ------------------ The parish office will be closed New Year's Day, and will reopen on January 2nd. ------------------ Some more "Coming of Age: Passalongs about learning as we grow older" I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life. -Age 58 I've learned that if you want to do something positive for your children, work to improve your marriage. -Age 61 I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. -Age 62 I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back. -Age 64 I've learned that whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually make the right decision. -Age 66 A blessed New Year! Msgr. Doug Raun 2
