www.cumcwat.com June, 2018 Is faith about church or home? If you ask someone about their faith journey they will often answer by telling you about their church experience. A common story is going to church and Sunday School as a kid, being confirmed, drifting away from church after high school, and then coming back to church after marriage and kids. That answer means that we re primarily thinking of faith as something that we do at church, not something that happens in our home life meaning home, work and school. We even say I go to church rather than say We are the church. There s a big difference. This summer we re going to explore biblical characters and the story of what their faith@home looked like. Some did well and some did not. We can learn from both. Our key verse for the summer will be Deut. 6:4-9: Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your strength., And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. In other words, faith happens at home! Pastor Steve THE CHURCH will be closed the following Friday s: June 22, June 29, and July 6th for scheduled appointments and vacations. During these dates you may contact the staff by calling the church office at 605-886-2242, and selecting option 3 or 4. Thank you.

New Church Sign Installation Has Begun! By mid-june our new church sign along the north side of our property will be installed and we will begin to use the digital signboard to communicate with the 5,200 cars a day that drive by our facility on 14 th Ave NE. Our current sign on 11 th Ave NE will also be redone to match the new sign. Thanks to the Trustees who have been working on this project for 11 months, sorting through ideas, concepts and bids. Next week our Ministry Staff will begin planning how to best use the digital signboard to let people know what s going on at Cornerstone. The entire cost of the sign has already been underwritten by existing Memorial funds and gifts approved and designated for a new sign. A STAFF SHIFT IS HAPPENING! Beginning May 29 th, our Staff Parish Relations Committee approved a shift in responsibilities for two of our staff, Ben Gietzen and Brandon Trupe. Brandon s hours will be increased from his current 20 hours a week to 25 hours a week; he will shift his focus to assisting Ben with administrative work for worship services, as well as pastoral visitation. With Brandon taking over some of the administrative work for worship services, Ben will be freed up 10-15 hours a week to help us reach people in our community for Jesus Christ. During the initial months of this shift, Ben will be exploring how we can best reach our community for Christ and then setting goals. Please pray for God s blessing on Ben, Brandon, and us as a church as we seek to reach out into our community and provide care for those who call Cornerstone church home.
