Before VBS begins, your team needs to establish what your rules and expectations are. You might even want to make a poster to hang as a reminder of these rules. Having clear rules and expectations will help to ensure a safe environment where all children feel comfortable and are able to hear the messages you are presenting. Be sure that the rules you establish and the way you present them are culturally sensitive and appropriate! Prayer Time Memory Verse: John 10:11 - I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Passport explanation This week we have a passport for each of you. Each day that you come to VBS you will have the opportunity to get two stickers/stamps. You will get one sticker for attending VBS and you will get the second sticker for learning the memory verse. We really want you to be here at VBS with us and to learn these memory verses because they will help you to remember the lessons you ve learned. If you are here every day this week and are able to get 5 stickers for attending and 5 stickers for memory verses how many stickers is that? (10) then we will have an extra special prize for you at the end of the week. We re going to help you earn these stickers each day and in addition to practicing the memory verses together, we ll be learning a song that goes along with the memory verse. Now we re ready to learn the song that goes with today s verse John 10:11! When the sheep were in the care of the shepherd they were protected and safe. For us as people, one of the important things that we need in order to be safe and protected is shelter. When we have a strong home to live in we are protected from rain storms, snow, and strong winds. Did you know that there are people in the world who do not have a shelter? Show Disaster Services pictures. The Salvation Army works in 126 different countries around the world, and one of the things they help to do is to provide shelter especially after there has been a natural disaster like a tornado or a tsunami. Sometimes relief workers are able to help people set up tents to live in temporarily or help build new homes for the people to live in. Many of us have nice, strong homes to live in and throughout this week we re going to have a penny war to help raise money for people who need to have safe shelter where they can live. We have two jars one for the boys and one for the girls. Every day when you come to VBS you can bring any pennies you have and put them into your jar. This money will help other people who might not have the protection and safety of a home like so many of us have. At the end of the week there will be a surprise for the team of the jar with the most money. Prior to this explanation you will need to prepare the Penny Wars jars and decide what the surprise will be for the team maybe they get a little treat bag, their counselor gets a pie in the face, etc. Figure out which incentive will be best in your context.

Memory Verse Review / Recitation Today we learned a memory verse we practiced it during opening and then we sang the song about it. Does anyone remember which verse that was? (John 10:11) We re going to practice the song one more time then we will give you a chance to recite the verse and earn the sticker for your passport. Review the song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkxjyftyriu or on DVD Ahead of time work out what your system will be for having the children recite the verse, distributing stickers, and collecting the passports. Make sure everyone on your SMT understands what this process will be. Lucky Seats Wrap-up We are so glad that each of you joined us today for VBS. We hope you ll come back tomorrow. Tomorrow we will learn about the Bread of Life and we hope to see you all! prayer

Bible Lesson Crafts Loaves & Fish Craft - on Pinterest Games Sharks and Minnows - on Pinterest Minute to Win It Game: Fish Race - on Pinterest Snacks Loaves & Fish Snack Songs Lesson Review Missions Application Today in our lesson we talked about Jesus satisfying our hunger. He satisfied the physical hunger of the people in the crowd and He can satisfy the hunger in our hearts to know God. Have you ever been really hungry? We all have a need for food. Did you know that there are people around the world who do not have food to eat? Pull out donut on a plate. This donut represents all of the food in the world. Some people have a lot of food to eat (cut off large portion) and some people just have a very small amount to eat (show a few crumbs) not enough to really even fill their stomachs! I m going to

give you all a piece of this donut, but please don t eat it yet. (Give out pieces of the donut some children will get larger portions but some will just have little crumbs.) How did you feel if you got a lot of the donut? Let children respond. How did you feel if you just had crumbs? Let children respond. It s not fair that some people in the world have a lot to eat and some do not have enough! The Salvation Army works in many countries around the world, and one of the things they help to do is to provide food for people who are hungry. They might have a feeding program at a school where children get rice and beans as part of their school day. They might provide a bag of canned food items to a family so they can prepare their own meals. Many of us have food to eat every day, but you will remember that we re having our penny war to help raise money for people who are in need. Yesterday we learned that our penny war money might help those in need of shelter, and today we know that the money we re raising could also help to provide food for those who are hungry. Don t forget to bring your pennies in each day. So far it looks like the (boys/girls) are winning! Memory Verse Review / Recitation Today we learned a memory verse we practiced it during opening and then we sang the song about it. Does anyone remember which verse that was? As the light of the world, Jesus healed Bartimaeus and brought sight to him. Health is a really important thing in life. What are some things that we need to do in order to be healthy? (Allow children to respond cover mouth when we cough, wash hands, eat nutritious food, exercise, etc.) Sometimes even though we might do all these things that we re supposed to do we might get sick. What happens when you get sick? (Go to the doctor, take medicine, rest, stay home from school). How many people have ever gotten a shot before? (Children raise hands) Shots can be painful but they help prevent disease and can be lifesaving. Did you know that there are people in the world who do not have access to health care such as shots or visiting the doctor? Show Health pictures. The Salvation Army works in many countries around the world, and one of the things they do is to provide health care especially for children and women. Some of these people live in small villages and don t have any way to get to a medical clinic which is very far away. So doctors and nurses go out into the villages to bring the health care to the people. They weigh babies to make sure they are getting enough food to grow properly and they give them shots to make sure that they don t get sick from preventable diseases. They might give medicine to people who are sick and sometimes they might even do a small procedure like putting in stitches. Many of us are able to get health care whenever we need it but since we realize that s not true for everyone, we re going to continue on with our penny war to help raise money for people who are in need around the world. Already this week we ve learned that our penny war money might help those in need of shelter and food, and today we know that the money we re raising could also help to provide medical care for those who are sick or in need of preventative care like shots. Don t forget to bring your pennies in each day. So far it looks like the (boys/girls) are winning! Memory Verse Review / Recitation Today we learned a memory verse we practiced it during opening and then we sang the song about it. Does anyone remember which verse that was? *As a bonus for today, give the children a glow stick with the Light of the World cutout on it. This is a good mid-week incentive for kids to keep coming the rest of the week. You could also list Sunday worship opportunities or other outreach events on the back of the cutout, if desired. If you have a large group, you may want to divide them into two groups.

You will need to create clues/hiding places for your location, but you want the children to find 3 different objects - map/arrow, Bible, plant/flower - which will represent the Way, the Truth, and the Life. After you have collected the items, have your final clue take you back to your meeting room. Talk about the 3 items that you collected on your scavenger hunt and ask the children to help you figure out what they have to do with your lesson today. Minute to Win It Game: Pom Pom Maze - on Pinterest Snacks Fruit, cheese, pretzel arrows - suggestions on Pinterest Songs Lesson Review Missions Application Today at the beginning of the lesson we learned that when Jesus said He was the Way, He was teaching the disciples. Jesus was a great teacher and taught many very important lessons. Raise your hand if you attend school? (Allow response) How many of you know how to read? (Allow response). Did you know that there are children in the world who are not able to attend school? There are many reasons for this maybe their families can t afford the school fees or they don t have the proper uniform to attend; maybe they have to help with family chores during the day like collecting water for their family from a nearby stream; maybe they don t have a school in their community. If a child doesn t have a chance to learn skills such as reading and writing, he or she also misses out on many opportunities in life! Show Education pictures. The Salvation Army sponsors many schools around the world where children can go to learn, children who might not have another opportunity to attend school. Most of the children who attend these schools have to wear uniforms, and their families might not have enough money to buy the uniforms. Just like students everywhere, they also need supplies like pencils, paper and books. Many of us are able to gain an education but since we realize that s not true for everyone, we re going to continue on with our penny war to help raise money for people who are in need around the world. Already this week we ve learned that our penny war money might help those in need of shelter, food, health care, and today we know that the money we re raising could also help to provide educational opportunities for children around the world who wouldn t otherwise be able to attend school. We have one more day in our penny war so don t forget to bring in your pennies tomorrow! So far it looks like the (boys/girls) are winning! Memory Verse Review / Recitation Today we learned a memory verse we practiced it during opening and then we sang the song about it. Does anyone remember which verse that was? (John 14:6) We re

Memory Verse Song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlgnoqfkc-c or on DVD You may want to play the song twice to make sure the kids catch on. Bible Lesson: I have a problem that I want to talk about with you this morning. It s a problem that you have too. The problem is sin. We ve talked about sin a few times this week. Does anyone remember what the word sin means? (Allow responses). I have some playdoh that will help us understand this problem a little bit better. Start with the lighter colored playdoh. This playdoh is a nice color, but we re going to see what happens when there is sin in our lives. Add a bit of the darker colored playdoh piece by piece as you talk. Maybe you tell a lie. Maybe you disobey your mom or dad. Cheat on a test. Think things that make God sad. Mix the playdoh together. Before we know it, the sin is all mixed into our lives and there s no way that we can undo it. The playdoh is all mixed up and there s no way for us to separate the colors. The same thing is true with the sin in our lives there s no way for us to get rid of the sin on our own. The only way to be clean is through the cross and the Resurrection. We re going to use some different colors to help us understand all of this. I m going to need 5 helpers to hold up the colorful paper for us. The first color we have is gray. When we added sin to our playdoh it turned kind of a grayish color. So we re going to use the color gray to represent sin. As we ve talked about, sin is all of the wrong thing that you do like lying, unkindness and disobeying. Sin is disobeying God s rules. Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Each person here has sinned and therefore we re separated from God. This is a big problem! But the good news is that God still loves you. He doesn t want you to die in your sins and be separated from Him forever.

Which brings us to our next color RED! God sent His one and only Son, Jesus, down from Heaven to Earth. Because He loves you, He took your punishment for you by suffering and dying on a cross. He literally gave up his life and died on the cross for you. Because He loves you, He took your punishment for you by suffering and dying on a cross. Jesus gave His Blood, which is why we use the color red. 1 Corinthians 15:3 confirms this as it says, Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. But because of Christ s blood, our hearts can be made clean and pure. We use the color WHITE to represent purity. Remember when we mixed the playdoh together, we couldn t undo the sin and separate the colors? But because of Christ s blood we can be made clean and our sin can be forgiven. 1 John 1:7b explains the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. Because of the blood of Jesus we can be forgiven from our sins! If you believe in Jesus, God will forgive you of your sins and you will be made clean. If you would like to be forgiven of all your sins you need to be ready to: 1. Admit you have sinned, tell God you are sorry, and be willing to turn away from sin. 2. Believe in Jesus. 3. Then thank God for forgiving you. So let s review what we ve learned so far we all have a sin problem, which we re reminded about with the color gray. So Jesus came to earth to die on the cross for our sins because He loved us so much, represented by the color red which stands for His blood. Through the blood of Jesus, we can be forgiven of our sins and our hearts can be made clean, represented by the color white. You might be wondering why all of this is important. Before Jesus died, He told some of His friends about Heaven. This is what He had to say My Father s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:2-3) And this is all true! After Jesus died on the cross, He did not stay dead! God raised Jesus up after 3 days and He is alive in Heaven today. Who remembers what our theme for today is? (I am the Resurrection.) Resurrection means that Jesus was brought to life, He was raised from the dead! This is great news because if Jesus had stayed dead, we would too! But Jesus has made the way for you to be in Heaven with Him someday. When I think about Heaven, I think of a beautiful place with streets of gold which is why we use yellow to represent Heaven! And now we re ready for our final color green! This reminds us of things that are growing. God wants you to grow in His family to become more like Jesus. 2 Peter 3:18 says, But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. What are some ways that we can grow? (Continue to get to know Jesus more by reading the Bible, praying, obeying God s Word, going to church to learn more about God and be in community with other Christians, and tell others about Jesus.) Empty Tomb Rolls (aka Resurrection Rolls) Songs Lesson Review Missions Application Today in our lesson we talked about Jesus being raised from the dead. All week in our missions time we have been learning about issues that help save lives or help improve lives - shelter, food, healthcare, education. Today we re going to talk about something that is even more important than life here on earth. We have learned that we all have sinned, that Jesus died and then rose again so that we can be forgiven and live with Him in Heaven. This is a need that all of us have, not matter what country we live in or what our lives look like. Things like shelter, food, healthcare and education might be different from place to place depending on where we live, but Jesus is the same everywhere! He loves each of us and wants to be our Savior! Show worship pictures. Just like we are sharing about Jesus here at VBS, around the world The Salvation Army and other churches are telling people about Jesus. This is the most important thing that we can do - share Jesus with someone else! Already this week we ve learned that our penny war money might help those in need of shelter, food, health care, and education. Today we also learn that it helps to support churches and pastors so that they can tell other people about Jesus.

Today is the last day in our penny war. It looks like the have won! Announce a grand total of money raised, the winning team gets their reward.
