LITURGICAL MINISTERS Attention Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, and Altar Servers: New ministry schedules are available for pick up in the sacristy. Daily Evangelization "Devote time each day to prayer OPLATKI (Christmas Wafers) are available at the Parish Office. Limited supply available. We have made it to the Third Sunday of Advent. Christmas is now only a week away. The third installment on our Advent consideration of the Mass can be found as an insert in this bulletin; it is entitled Getting More Out of Mass. You will discover that the Mass is not a collection of random prayers, symbols, gestures, and postures; it is deeply rooted in the Scriptures. Read the insert over at home; consider the Mass from the biblical perspective. Discuss the contents, and pass it on to family or friends who might benefit. There is a second collection at Mass this weekend for the Sisters Retirement Fund. Please do what you can to help the Sisters meet the needs of the ill and aged in their communities. The Sisters did so much for us and gave little thought to material reward. Now they need our help and this is a good time of the year to show our gratitude and appreciation. This would also be a good time to mention that our faithful ushers will adopt some new procedures and your help is needed. Beginning this weekend, when there is a second collection, our ushers will hand the basket to the first pew; please pass that basket to the nearest neighbor (you might have to move if the bench is not full.) The second basket will be passed right behind it. This should speed things up and avoid having second collections run into the Eucharistic Prayer/Consecration. The ushers will also join in the procession for the Presentation of the Gifts as the Offertory is also the Offering of the People. There will be several additional times for Confessions this week, prior to Christmas. Here is the schedule for the Sacrament of Reconciliation: Friday, December 22 11:00am 12:00Noon, 3:00 4:00pm, 7:30 8:30pm Saturday, December 23 11:00am 12:00Noon, 3:00 3:45pm, 5:00 5:30pm With Christmas landing on a Monday, next weekend could be confusing. Simply put, we are expected to attend Mass twice: once for the Fourth Sunday of Advent (on Saturday at 4:00pm or on Sunday at 8:00am, 10:00am, or 12:00Noon) and then once for Christmas (on Sunday at 4:00pm, 6:00pm Children s Liturgy, 8:00pm, 12:00Midnight, or on Monday at 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00Noon, no evening Mass.) St Charles Advent 2017 Giving Tree concludes this Sunday, December 17, at 1:00pm. Gifts will be collected, sorted, and delivered at that time. Please check the wish lists on the church bulletin boards (or in the November 26 bulletin). So before 1:00pm on this Sunday, select your gift and place it before the BVM or Holy Family shrines in church. Please make it a habit to buy your gas and groceries with St Charles Gift Cards. Use our Gift Cards for your Christmas shopping and to give as gifts. Stop at the Parish Office after Mass or when on your way to shop. School vacation begins this Wednesday, right after the big St Charles Day School Talent Show. Remember Arthur Godfrey s Talent Scouts on television? Too bad Arthur isn t around St Charles this week; I am sure he would find some great new acts! St Charles Finance Council will meet this Thursday, December 21, at 7:30pm, in the Rectory Dining Room. Statements will be sent to you electronically.
