This is a stressful time of year for many of the families that Catholic Charities serves and we want them to feel good about getting their children off to school. We are particularly in need of jeans, shorts, shirts, dresses, etc. Shoes, back packs, and lunch boxes would also be helpful. Thank you for supporting Catholic Charities and living out the call to mercy by helping to clothe the naked. Clothing items may be placed in the Catholic Charities collection bin located on the Northeast corner of the church. Starting July 23 - August 6. Please mark your bags BTS for Back to School. Thank you and God bless! Your friends at Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas. How to help women and children in need Have you upgraded your phone and don t know what to do with your old one? Donate it to Catholic Charities! Funds raised from the recycling of used phones support Catholic Charities programs across the Archdiocese. ALL phones working, damaged or obsolete are accepted. Catholic Charities receives a monetary donation for each one. In turn, they are repurposed to donate to battered women s shelters to be able to dial 911 for emergency services. Donations are tax deductible. They can be dropped off at our TurnStyles locations as well as any of our donation bins located at Ascension, Cure of Ars, Holy Cross, Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity, Prince of Peace, Sacred Heart, St. Agnes, St. Ann s and St. Michael s. Food Kitchen Monday! More help is needed serving and providing food Our next opportunity to serve at the food kitchen is Monday, July 25 th (always the 4 th Monday of each month). Last month we served 383. We are still expecting more through the summer months since the children are not in school. We did have a few more helpers last month who came to serve, but we could use more help! Besides the usual request for boneless hams, au gratin potatoes (3 boxes per pan), we desperately need canned fruit and fresh fruit. We did not have enough last month! Bananas are especially welcome since some of our guests have dental issues. We also need more salad dressing; large bottles of ranch dressing are appreciated. We could use more help serving at the food kitchen as well. Besides adults, children in the upper grades and high school are very welcome to come help. If you are available to help, please call Rosie Bohan at 913-722- 5109. Vans will be in the church parking lot to collect food from 8:30 to 10:00 am Monday. In this year of mercy, this is an excellent way to help the less fortunate. Page 4 St. Ann Catholic Church

Stewardship Refelction Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today s Gospel parable speaks to generosity. In the deep of night, a sleepy friend responds to his neighbor s request for food for an unexpected guest. Jesus suggests that it would be unthinkable that a friend would deny a friend in need. A friend would most certainly give what is asked and more. Through this story, Jesus illustrates God s generosity. Good stewards realize the extraordinary love and graciousness with which God showers us. We need never convince God to be generous. God is already that generous friend. His abundant love bathes us in goodness. This week, prayerfully reflect on God s generosity and what our response should be to that generosity.
